Centre's fiscal deficit hits 17.9% of full-year target in Q1; higher spending lifts gap to Rs 2.8 lakh crore: CGA data

Representative image The central government's fiscal deficit touched 17.9% of the full-year target at the end of June 2025, more than double the 8.4% recorded in the same period last year, data from the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) showed on Thursday. In absolute terms, the fiscal deficit — the gap between revenue and expenditure — stood at Rs 2.8 lakh crore for the April–June period of FY26. The Centre has pegged the fiscal deficit for the full year at 4.4% of GDP, or Rs 15.69 lakh crore, PTI reported. As of June, the government had received Rs 9.41 lakh crore, or 26.9% of Budget Estimates (BE) for 2025-26. This included net tax revenue of Rs 5.4 lakh crore, non-tax revenue of Rs 3.73 lakh crore, and non-debt capital receipts of Rs 28,018 crore. Transfers to state governments surged to Rs 3.27 lakh crore, up Rs 47,439 crore from a year earlier, as devolution of tax shares accelerated. Total government expenditure in the first quarter came in at Rs 12.22 lakh crore, or 24.1% of BE, with Rs 9.47 lakh crore spent on the revenue account and Rs 2.75 lakh crore on the capital account. Within revenue spending, Rs 3.86 lakh crore went toward interest payments and Rs 83,554 crore toward major subsidies. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Aditi Nayar, Chief Economist at ICRA, noted that tepid direct tax collections in June weighed on gross tax revenue performance, though the weakness was largely due to an adverse base effect. 'Devolution to states maintained a robust pace,' she added, quoted PTI. Nayar also highlighted that while the Centre's capital expenditure rose 52% year-on-year, this was on a low base and was still 1% lower than Q1 FY24 levels. However, the sharp rise in Q1 capex is expected to have supported investment activity, offering a positive signal for GDP growth in the quarter, she said. The entire Pokemon TCG Pocket Ho-Oh card controversy explained

Image via The Pokemon Company. The Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion is here in Pokemon TCG Pocket. This expansion has brought so much new content into the game first-partner Pokemon Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Not only that, new trainers from the Johta region have also been added. However, the highlight of the expansion has to be legendary Pokemons - Lugia and Ho-Oh. But who have ever thought that one of these two cards would have been the reason for the biggest controversy in the game's history, that too, before the actual release of the expansion. Pokemon TCG Pocket gets slammed by plagiarism controversy The Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion has dropped on July 30, 2025, in Pokemon TCG Pocket. But one day prior to that, the dataminers already leaked the highly anticipated rare cards for Ho-Oh EX (3-Star) and Lugia EX (3-Star). And this is where all the controversy began. The community noticed that the design of the Ho-Oh card holds uncanny similarities with a 2021 fan artwork by Chinese artists Ianjiujiu. This comparison sparked serious altercations as if the company used this design unintentionally or it didn't care to take any permission at all. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Even the artist himself went on to share a side-by-side comparison tweet of his work and the new Ho-Oh EX card in the game. It didn't take too long for Pokemon TCG Pocket to acknowledge its mistake as the official Twitter handle of the game has recently shared its response regarding the ongoing controversy. It says this is actually a 'production issue' by the card production team and it provided 'incorrect reference materials as official documents' , which happened to be the artwork by Ianjiujiu. The company also stated that both Ho-Oh EX and Lugia EX had been replaced by temporary placeholder cards displaying 'New art coming soon.' There has been no problem with the design of Lugia EX but as its animation featured Ho-Oh as part of a shared mural. So, Lugia's design was also removed as well. It is ensured by the company that it will conduct a broader investigation so that no similar issues ever exist elsewhere in the game. If it was any other card, there wouldn't have been this much controversy as Pokemon TCG Pocket would have pulled them out from the game. But both Ho-Oh EX and Lugia EX are one of the rarest cards in the game and both share each other's Immersive Art Animation. That's why this situation escalated so high. G-SHOCK's DW-5000R is a retro revival that earns its heritage

When Casio announced they were bringing back the original 1983 G-SHOCK , I had mixed feelings. The watch industry loves a good heritage story, and sometimes that nostalgia ends up doing more work than the actual product. But there was something intriguing about their approach to the DW-5000R. Instead of just applying vintage styling to a modern watch, they went back to the original hand-drawn blueprints from an era before CAD existed. Three weeks of daily wear later, the DW-5000R has proven to be more thoughtful than your typical vintage reissue. Casio rebuilt it from the ground up while keeping the original's core appeal. It feels like what the 1983 model would be with access to today's manufacturing and materials. Details matter more than you'd think The first thing you notice when you strap this on is how right it feels on your wrist. Here's what Casio did well: they made the DW-5000R look and feel like the original while improving its performance. The flat bezel is a good example. Previous G-SHOCK reissues had raised sections around the text for extra protection, which worked but broke the clean visual lines that made the 1983 model so appealing. Instead of accepting that compromise, Casio slightly enlarged the case to accommodate modern shock-resistant requirements while keeping that smooth, vintage aesthetic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The attention to detail extends to things you might not immediately notice but definitely feel. The strap dimples are positioned exactly where they were on the original. The buttons have the right amount of tactile feedback. Even the "JAPAN" marking at the bottom of the dial, a subtle nod to the fact this is made in Japan, unlike most modern G-SHOCKs , adds authenticity without being flashy about it. These aren't the kinds of details that show up in marketing materials, but they're what make the difference between a watch that looks vintage and one that genuinely captures the spirit of the original. The classic square case with its iconic red accents has a presence that's confident without being aggressive. Even though case size increased slightly from 41.6mm to 42.3mm to accommodate modern components, it isn't like modern G-SHOCKs that dominates your entire wrist, and as someone who isn't a big fan of that I find it refreshingly understated. And if you've had the 40-year old watch with you, you won't even notice it's you will notice is how well-proportioned everything feels. How to rebuild a classic without losing its soul for dummies The real story of the DW-5000R happens underneath that vintage exterior. The original DW-5000C had to meet basic shock and water resistance standards from 1983. This recreation has to pass over 100 different criteria that modern G-SHOCKs face, which meant essentially rebuilding everything internal while keeping the external appearance intact. Kikuo Ibe's original shock-resistant structure, that clever hollow construction that suspends the module with minimal contact points, remains the foundation. But the cushioning materials, positioning, and internal components have all been updated to meet current reliability standards. Ibe's 'Triple 10' philosophy that stated every G-SHOCK should be water resistant to at least 10 bars (10atm – 100 metres) as well as survive a minimum 10 metre drop, is one upped. So, the DW-5000R has 200-meter or 20 bar water resistance. All in all, the module feels more stable during impact, but you only notice this when you accidentally bang the watch against something solid. The improved sealing keeps moisture out more effectively, but you only appreciate this when you're washing dishes or caught in unexpected rain. The LED backlight upgrade makes a meaningful difference in daily use. Where the original might leave you squinting in dim lighting, this display stays crisp and readable. Battery life jumping from about two years to nearly five means you'll spend less time thinking about maintenance and more time just wearing it. These improvements aren't revolutionary, but they're exactly the kinds of practical upgrades that make a vintage design viable for modern life. It's a typical Casio watch, so the basic features - stopwatch, alarm, calendar - are all there when you need them but stay out of your way otherwise. Though, there's no smartphone connectivity, no fitness tracking, no notifications buzzing your wrist every few minutes, and that is something I've started to prefer lately. If you look past it's retro revival tag, the G-SHOCK DW-5000R serve as the most reliable, unobtrusive timepiece you can strap to your wrist. I've been wearing it for daily activities, morning coffee runs, work meetings, evening workouts, weekend hikes. It's the kind of watch that works just as well with weekend jeans as it does with a button-down shirt, though you'll probably find yourself reaching for it more often on days when you want something dependable and unpretentious. And for it's price of Rs 14,995, it isn't even asking you to crack open your piggy bank. AI Masterclass for Students. Upskill Young Ones Today!– Join Now
