More than 80 areas warned of major Freeview problems THIS week as TVs stop working properly
HOUSEHOLDS have been warned of widespread Freeview disruption this week that could make their TVs stop working properly. Viewers may switch on their telly to find a black, pixelated or flickering screen as a result of planned engineering works. 2 Some 87 areas are expected to be affected, according to Freeview. Freeview has urged households that the disruption is only temporary and to not retune their TV. "If you are affected by engineering work, please don't try and retune your TV - reception will be restored as soon as the engineering work is completed," the company said. "Occasionally, routine engineering work is required on transmitters in order to improve terrestrial TV services. "While every effort is made to minimise the impact on viewers, this can cause temporary disruption to reception." If you don't want to miss your favourite TV shows while the work is taking place, Freeview suggested households check out its online TV guide. The Freeview Channel Checker tells viewers what changes are taking place that may affect their service and viewing. To use it, simply enter your postcode to see what will be affected. If you have a hybrid or smart TV, you can watch uninterrupted TV during the engineering works via the Freeview app or website. While Freeview typically requires an aerial, you can access many Freeview channels and on-demand content through streaming apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, and All 4. Check the full list of 87 areas below to see if you are affected. Travel warning issued as tram stops closed for a week amid major works
Passengers are being warned to expect major disruption as engineering works take place on a Metrolink line. No trams will run between Bury and Whitefield from the beginning of Sunday, May 25, to the end of next Sunday, June 1. Meanwhile, there will be no services between Whitefield and Crumpsall tomorrow (Sunday), and from Friday to next Sunday. It means that Bury and Radcliffe tram stops will be closed for eight days. Services will run between Whitefield and Manchester city centre from bank holiday Monday to the end of Thursday. Trams on the Bury line will only run between Crumpsall and Manchester tomorrow, and from Friday to next Sunday. Join our Traffic and Travel WhatsApp group HERE TfGM says a tram replacement bus will be in use at the affected stops. It also says that passengers could find cheaper or quicker alternatives by using Bee Network buses instead. Metrolink tickets will be accepted on the 97, 135 and 524 services on Friday and next Saturday. However, they will only be accepted on tram replacement buses on the other days that work is taking place. Circle Line train services to end at 11pm on some days between Jun 15 to Jul 30 to prepare for stage 6 opening
SINGAPORE: Train services on the Circle Line (CCL) will end earlier on some days between Jun 15 and Jul 30 to prepare for the opening of the complete CCL loop in the first half of next year. To facilitate the works, services will end at 11pm from Sundays to Wednesdays, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and rail operator SMRT said on Thursday (May 22). "Services on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays will remain unchanged," read the joint news release. LTA and SMRT said a series of works will be carried out on the existing CCL to renew its Integrated Supervisory Control System (ISCS) to ensure system compatibility with the new stretch of the line that will connect HarbourFront station to Marina Bay station. CCL stage 6 will close the circle between Marina Bay and Harbourfront stations via three new stations - Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road. When completed, there will be a total of 33 stations along the entire Circle Line. THE ISCS LTA and SMRT said that the ISCS monitors and manages the systems on the CCL, including power supply, communications and station facilities. It also supports communications between stations, control centres and trains. "The current system has been in use since the CCL began operations in 2009, and needs to be renewed to ensure it is compatible with the new CCL6 system," they said. Earlier closures of train services "are required to provide longer blocks of engineering hours necessary for testing and commissioning of the new servers and equipment to be carried out safely and rigorously," LTA and SMRT said. They advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and to rely on alternative routes via other MRT lines and bus services to reach their destinations. Commuters can also refer to LTA's mobile app and LTA's and SMRT's social media platforms for more details. Posters will be put up at all CCL MRT stations and at stations that interchange with the CCL to inform commuters of the service adjustments, while station staff will also be deployed at affected stations to assist during the service adjustment period. LTA and SMRT noted that further service adjustments "will be needed to complete systems integration testing across the entire CCL, and ensure that the CCL6 stretch is well integrated with the existing CCL. "At present, we plan tentatively to carry out these adjustments from September to December 2025," they said. "These temporary service adjustments are necessary as we prepare for the opening of CCL6, so that there is sufficient time to conduct thorough and rigorous testing to ensure the safety of our commuters. "These works will bring us closer to the completion of the CCL6 extension, which will enhance connectivity, shorten travel times, and bring greater convenience to our commuters," said LTA and SMRT.

Households in over 110 areas warned of TV channels going BLACK or flickering this week and told ‘don't try and retune'
BRITS have been warned they could be left with black screens and flickering channels on their TVs over the next few days. Freeview is received by more than 16million homes across the UK and some may be affected by engineering works this week. 2 2 These planned works are essential so transmitters can carry on "reliably broadcasting" to households. More than 110 areas have been put on notice over potential disruptions. Some have been told to expect possible "pixelation or flickering" while others are warned their TV screen "may go black".
