Raheem Sterling may be tied to Arsenal for the long-term despite loan disaster

It's fair to say Raheem Sterling's loan spell at Arsenal didn't go how he planned. Nor boss Mikel Arteta. When it became apparent that the England international wasn't wanted at Chelsea last summer, despite his massive contract that had been signed at Stamford Bridge only 12 months previous, the Gunners boss took a punt on the 30-year-old. They'd worked together at Manchester City during the best period of Sterling's career, knew one another well and Arteta knew he could get the best out of the ex-Liverpool man. But Sterling's time in the north London was little short of a disaster. He struggled to find anything like his best form, scored just one goal in 28 games and by the end of the season, was way down the pecking order. However, those on-field difficulties haven't soured relations between player and club - even though he's unlikely to be returning himself, be it on a permanent or temporary deal. And now Sterling has established a family connection with the Gunners. His son, Thiago, is joining the Arsenal academy and will play for the U9 team - the youngest age group - as he sets about hoping to emulate his father in years to come and becoming a Premier League player. The news was announced by partner Paige Milian on social media, as she also shared family pictures with her 100,000 Instagram followers. Showing Thiago holding up an Arsenal shirt alongside younger brother Thai, 6, she said: 'Beyond proud of my first born son Thiago for signing with Arsenal Academy's U9s. 'The growth, dedication and hard work you've shown over the past year has been incredible to watch, you've earned this. This is just the beginning so keep your feet on the ground, stay humble and keep grinding. 'The journey doesn't stop here, let's go.' As for his father's future, well that's far less certain. Given how Chelsea have pivoted to youth this season - successfully it must be added - it's presumed Enzo Maresca will have no place in his squad for Sterling next season.

Wrexham now targeting ex-Liverpool ace and England international adored by Jurgen Klopp

Wrexham now targeting ex-Liverpool ace and England international adored by Jurgen Klopp Wrexham are looking to make a statement in the transfer market this summer and are weighing up an ambitious move for a former Liverpool striker who has been capped by England Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham are targeting another big name star (Image: Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA/Getty Images ) Wrexham are reportedly setting their sights on another England-capped player as they gear up to compete in the Championship. The club's owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have made no secret of their Premier League ambitions after achieving promotion from League One in April. Manager Phil Parkinson is preparing for a pivotal summer transfer window as he plans to revamp his team. ‌ The Red Dragons have already been associated with several top-tier players with international experience, including Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson and defender Aaron Cresswell, who is leaving West Ham as a free agent. ‌ According to the Daily Mail, Wrexham now have their eyes set on an audacious bid to sign another Hammers player, Danny Ings. The forward, who has represented his country three times, is also set to become a free agent after a two-and-a-half-year stint at the London Stadium. The 32-year-old first made a name for himself at Burnley as a young player before securing a move to Liverpool in 2015. However, an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury significantly affected his time at Anfield following a lengthy spell out of action. Despite eventually falling out of favour, Ings was highly regarded by then-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The German boss had nothing but praise for him when his move to Southampton was announced in 2018. ‌ (Image: Mike Egerton/PA Wire ) As per the club's official website, he said: "He is such an outstanding boy. Honestly, if you could bottle his character and spirit, his would sell worldwide - he is so incredibly positive and full of energy. "But we won't just miss his character, because he is a footballer who has all the tools. What is clear is that in his time here he had zero luck really, certainly in my time. ‌ "Before joining I tried to watch as many games on tape as I could from the season so far and Danny Ings stood out as someone I was really looking forward to coaching." West Ham team-mates Danny Ings and Aaron Cresswell are being chased by Wrexham (Image: Vince Mignott/) Ings experienced more favourable times at Southampton, where he registered 46 goals in 100 outings between 2018 and 2021. He then transferred to Aston Villa for a reported fee of around £25million. ‌ During his stint with Villa, Ings made 52 appearances and scored 14 goals before his January 2023 move to West Ham. His spell in east London has been challenging, marred by injuries, leading him to seek fresh opportunities. The Premier League club announced Ings' exit earlier this month, alongside those of Cresswell, Lukasz Fabianski, and Vladimir Coufal. Head coach Graham Potter said: "Aaron, Lukasz, Vladimir and Danny have been a pleasure to work with in my time here so far. "We felt it was important to confirm this news now, out of respect for them and the service they have given to the club, and to allow our supporters to show their appreciation at our final home match of the season." In the meantime, Parkinson has signalled that he is prepared to bide his time to secure Wrexham's top transfer targets this summer.
