Dem Rep. Pramila Jayapal calls it ‘inspiring' when she sees groups obstruct ICE

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., said in a new interview that she is most inspired when she sees people obstructing ICE. 'Some of the most inspiring things have been when people encircle courtrooms and refuse to allow ICE agents in,' Jayapal said during a conversation with Joy Reid on Friday's episode of 'The Joy Reid Show.' Advertisement 'There are all kinds of nonviolent resistance tactics that we have to use,' Jayapal added. 'And I've started something called Resistance Lab… It's a training on really the documented most effective ways to counter democratic backsliding, nonviolent resistance tactics to build that movement.' The Resistance Lab website, which includes a page on Jayapal's new book, 'USE THE POWER YOU HAVE: A Brown Woman's Guide to Politics and Political Change,' is advertising a 'Virtual Organizing Training 1.0' on July 13. The website says that Jayapal 'knew we need a way to turn our anger, fear, and frustration into action and progress. That's exactly why she launched The Resistance Lab, an in-depth organizing training to build our movement and give you the tools you need in this moment. The scary truth is that democracies fall in a matter of months. So this is an immediate, urgent matter – and we need to quickly build our capacity to resist.' Advertisement 'We've already trained over 10,000 people in all 50 states,' Jayapal told Reid. On 'The Joy Reid Show,' Rep. Pramila Jayapal told the ex-MSNBC host that she gets inspired when she sees individuals obstructing ICE. Allison Bailey/NurPhoto/Shutterstock 'And the next one's coming up on July 13. So, we're going to keep doing those, because that is what we have to realize is the United States has been complacent for too long. We think that maybe these checks and balances were supposed to keep us safe, but we're seeing that they assume that people on the other side also care about the Constitution. Not the case right now.' The Washington State lawmaker has been critical of ICE, calling it a 'terrorist force' in a recent Instagram post. Advertisement She then defended the comment during an interview with CNN, where she was asked to respond to the White House's criticism of her post. She retorted the White House 'owes an apology' to Americans. Jayapal also called ICE's immigration enforcement 'outrageous,' 'unconstitutional' and 'illegal' during her CNN segment defending the comments she made, calling ICE a 'terrorist force.' Jayapal told Joy Reid, 'the most inspiring things have been when people encircle courtrooms and refuse to allow ICE agents in.' REUTERS Advertisement ICE Acting Director Todd Lyon responded to Jayapal's comments. 'Rep. Jayapal's glorification of the harassment of law enforcement officers and of ignoring our nation's laws is particularly concerning coming from a sitting congresswoman. Moreover, these comments came on July 4, just hours before a coordinated attack at an ICE facility in Texas, during which a local law enforcement officer was shot,' Lyon told Fox News Digital. 'And today — also in Texas— a violent attacker shot a U.S. Border Patrol officer. Inciting activists is not a game; there are very real consequences. I'm relieved that both these officers are expected to recover, but how much more dangerous rhetoric can we as a nation tolerate before it's too late?'

Jim Acosta, Joy Reid openly float conspiracy theory that Trump will ‘rig' 2026 midterms

In less than a week, two former liberal cable news stars who were essentially discarded by their former networks this year floated conspiracy theories that President Donald Trump will rig next year's midterms. Ex-CNN anchor Jim Acosta and ex-MSNBC anchor Joy Reid, who were among the media's sharpest critics of Trump's refrain about not really losing the 2020 election, openly speculated next year's midterms won't be on the level. 'I don't think Trump intends to leave office,' Reid told far-left writer Wajahat Ali on his Substack last week. 'I've been very clear about that. I think he intends to stay in office like Putin till he dies.' 'Whenever Democrats say to me, 'this is the reason we have to coalesce for 2026,' I always add to the end of their sentence, 'Yeah, assuming we actually have free and fair elections,'' Reid also said in the segment. 'I think it's insane, honestly, to just assume we're going to have normal elections next year.' 3 James Carville (right) and Jim Acosta (left) in a video interview. The Jim Acosta Show Reid, disparaging the Republican 'big, beautiful bill' as a 'bulls–t bill' in line with Democratic National Committee talking points, cited House Republicans who supported Trump's legislation in spite of their reservations about it. She claimed their behavior suggested they weren't worried about being re-elected next year. 'The way Trump is behaving, he's not acting like somebody who worries that his party will lose power or that even if somehow we had normal elections and Democrats took control of either the House or the Senate, he's not acting like somebody who's worried about the consequences of that,' she said. Last Tuesday, Acosta wondered aloud to Democratic strategist James Carville if the 2026 midterms could be rigged by Trump or adviser Stephen Miller. 'In the short word, yes,' Carville said in response to Acosta repeating a viewer of his Substack show asking whether they believe Trump will end up 'tampering' with the midterm votes. 'In the longer words, very.' 'I don't put anything past him — nothing — to try to call the election off, to do anything he can,' Carville added. 'He can think of things like that, that – that, you know, we can't because we're not accustomed to thinking like that. We always assume there's going to be an election.' 3 Wajahat Ali (left) and former MSNBC hostJoy Reid (right) The Left Hook 'This is scary s–t,' Acosta chimed in at one point. 'President Trump has taken more action to restore the integrity of our elections on behalf of the American people than any president in modern history. According to the Democrats, voter fraud doesn't exist – but clearly they are already searching for copouts preparing to lose big again in the midterms,' a White House spokesman told Fox News Digital in response. The far-left Reid was abruptly fired by MSNBC in February; in November 2022, she said only Democrats accept election results when they lose. Acosta quit CNN in January after he was asked to move from dayside programming to a midnight show. He once mocked Trump's 2020 election claims as 'the big cry.' Last month, former CNN host Don Lemon didn't dismiss comedian Kathy Griffin's suggestion that the 2024 election was also fixed. 'I'm Kathy Griffin and I do not think Trump won in a free and fair election,' Griffin said. 'I believe there was tampering. I don't know if it was the Elon [Musk] connection. I don't know if it was just a few good old boys in the South who didn't do, you know, I mean what they accuse us of.' 3 President Donald Trump speaks during a roundtable at 'Alligator Alcatraz,' a new migrant detention facility at Dade-Collier Training and Transition facility. AP 'You're not far off,' Lemon said. 'I mean I won't say that I disagree with you… But I'm an evidence person. I'd like to see the evidence. I think something was off, and especially when someone said, 'oh, we've got this.' And, you know, how do you know that? How do we know we've got this? How do you know, or 'I don't need your vote' or anything like that. It's a little bit odd.' In the past two midterms, the sitting president's party lost control of the House. In 2018, during Trump's first term, Democrats won back control of the chamber for the first time since the GOP Tea Party romp in 2010. In 2022, President Joe Biden's Democrats were widely seen as overperforming but nevertheless lost control of the House to the GOP.

Ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid clashes with CNN panel as she defends Iran

Print Close By Hanna Panreck Published June 25, 2025 Ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid clashed with a CNN panel on Tuesday as she defended Iran after President Donald Trump launched a strike against its nuclear facilities over the weekend. "Iran-backed militias that attacked the United States forces 170 times in Syria, in Jordan and in Iraq. You know who said that? Joe Biden said that. That's why he authorized F-15 strikes against Iran," Brad Todd, a CNN contributor, told Reid. The ex-MSNBC host said during the exchange on CNN's "Newsnight" that she didn't look to former President Joe Biden as a moral authority because he "has allowed Israel in an unrestrained manner to slaughter Palestinians in Gaza." "The bottom line here is the way that we know that Iran did not have nuclear weapons is that if they had nuclear weapons, Israel would not attack them. The reason they're trying to get nukes, and probably Saudi Arabia is trying to get them, is because an expansionist power in their region keeps threatening them and actually bombs them," Reid argued. JOY REID FLOATS SPECULATION THAT HER RACE, 'ANXIETY' SURROUNDING TRUMP PLAYED ROLE IN MSNBC FIRING "I don't think it's okay that Israel has nukes either. And so the bottom line is, Israel does not even subject its nuclear weapons to the IAEA. And so my question is, should anyone in the region have nukes?" she added. "Joy, this is not just about nukes. It's also about Iran being a state sponsor of terrorism and chaos and violence and death around the world. So, I mean, there's that too," CNN host Abby Phillip said. Arthur Aidala also pushed back on Reid and said she was backing a country that slaughters gay people and kills others for their religious beliefs. "LGBTQ people can't even serve in the military under the president you prefer," Reid responded, as Aidala added, "We're not killing them!" "They're allowed to live, but they're not allowed to serve in the United States military. They're being persecuted. They can't have their stories told in school. The United States is not exactly a beacon of rights for gay people," Reid argued as Aidala called her out for comparing gay rights in the U.S. to Iran. LAWMAKERS, MEDIA DINGED FOR BLAMING TRUMP OR RIPPING ISRAEL ON IRAN: 'YOU THINK KAMALA COULD'VE STOPPED THEM?' "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg last week suggested during an episode of the ABC News talk show that the U.S. in 2025 was the same as Iran, specifically for Black people. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin pushed back on Goldberg, noting that living in America today was "very different" than living in Iran. "Not if you're Black," Goldberg insisted as co-host Sunny Hostin added, "not for everybody." Scott Jennings taunts ex-MSNBC host for losing her job during heated tariff debate

CNN's Scott Jennings taunted ex-MSNBC host Tiffany Cross for losing her job during a heated exchange centered around President Donald Trump's tariffs on Wednesday night. While discussing the recent developments around Trump's tariffs, the conversation pivoted to the president's aspirations of acquiring Greenland from Denmark. Cross slammed Trump's plans, claiming, "It's a colonizer's attitude to say, 'I like it, I'm just going to steal it.'" "Steal what?" Jennings interjected. "Land, land," Cross responded. "You cannot just go and say, 'I like it, it's mine now.' It doesn't work that way. That is what they're trying to do. And in this new world order…" Jennings chuckled and asked, "What?" The two continued to argue, with Cross turning up the heat when she labeled Jennings "irrelevant." "I'm not even talking about you. You're not a member of government. So you're irrelevant on that point. I'm talking about the president of the United States," Cross quipped. Jennings fired back, saying, "You got fired from your job. How relevant are you?" "Scott, if you want to engage in personal insults…" Cross replied before being interrupted by Jennings. "I don't, but you do," Jennings responded. Cross quickly blasted Jennings, saying, "What you lack in the legitimate point, you make up for it in personal insults." Jennings once more told the ex-MSNBC host, "I don't. You do." The argument continued, with Cross claiming that Trump's foreign policy is causing the U.S. to become "increasingly isolated on the world stage." Jennings disputed Cross's argument that the United States was becoming more isolated, to which Cross replied by accusing Jennings of engaging in "personal insults." "So if you want to engage in personal insults, if I were you, I would reserve that for your party, who has increasingly isolated our position…" Cross said before being interrupted by other panelists.

CNN Panel Goes Off the Rails With Heated Personal Attacks: ‘You Got Fired From Your Job!'

Scott Jennings sent a CNN panel off the rails during a debate about President Donald Trump's tariffs when he chose to personally attack an ex-MSNBC host for getting cut from the network. The sole MAGA member of the NewsNight with Abby Phillip panel was engaged in a feisty to-and-fro with Tiffany Cross, who hosted The Cross Connection from 2020 to 2022, until her highly rated weekend morning show was canceled. Jennings reminded her of this as they discussed Trump's desire to take the island of Greenland from Denmark for 'national security.' 'It's a colonizer's attitude to say, I like it, I'm just gonna steal it,'' Cross said, before Jennings snipped: 'Steal what?' 'Land, land,' Cross replied. 'You cannot just go and say, 'I like it, it's mine now.' It doesn't work that way. That is what they're trying to do.' 'I have never, ever said we're going to go to Greenland and colonize it or steal it. That's crazy,' Jennings said, taking Cross's point personally. Then came the most tense part of the exchange, as Cross said: 'I'm not even talking about you. You're not a member of government. So you're irrelevant on that point. I'm talking about the president of the United States.' Turning to personal taunts, Jennings then slapped back: 'You got fired from your job. How relevant are you?' Cross managed to remain composed in the face of the attack and continued with her point after saying: 'What you lack in a legitimate point, you make up for in personal insults.' Jennings smiled and rolled his eyes, as CNN International host Richard Quest appeared to laugh at the jibe. The flashpoint came about after the panel discussed new trade relationships in the face of tariffs possibly isolating the U.S. from traditional trading partners. Greenland, and Trump's attitude towards 'taking' it, came up as a topic.
