Scott Jennings taunts ex-MSNBC host for losing her job during heated tariff debate

CNN's Scott Jennings taunted ex-MSNBC host Tiffany Cross for losing her job during a heated exchange centered around President Donald Trump's tariffs on Wednesday night. While discussing the recent developments around Trump's tariffs, the conversation pivoted to the president's aspirations of acquiring Greenland from Denmark. Cross slammed Trump's plans, claiming, "It's a colonizer's attitude to say, 'I like it, I'm just going to steal it.'" "Steal what?" Jennings interjected. "Land, land," Cross responded. "You cannot just go and say, 'I like it, it's mine now.' It doesn't work that way. That is what they're trying to do. And in this new world order…" Jennings chuckled and asked, "What?" The two continued to argue, with Cross turning up the heat when she labeled Jennings "irrelevant." "I'm not even talking about you. You're not a member of government. So you're irrelevant on that point. I'm talking about the president of the United States," Cross quipped. Jennings fired back, saying, "You got fired from your job. How relevant are you?" "Scott, if you want to engage in personal insults…" Cross replied before being interrupted by Jennings. "I don't, but you do," Jennings responded. Cross quickly blasted Jennings, saying, "What you lack in the legitimate point, you make up for it in personal insults." Jennings once more told the ex-MSNBC host, "I don't. You do." The argument continued, with Cross claiming that Trump's foreign policy is causing the U.S. to become "increasingly isolated on the world stage." Jennings disputed Cross's argument that the United States was becoming more isolated, to which Cross replied by accusing Jennings of engaging in "personal insults." "So if you want to engage in personal insults, if I were you, I would reserve that for your party, who has increasingly isolated our position…" Cross said before being interrupted by other panelists.

CNN Panel Goes Off the Rails With Heated Personal Attacks: ‘You Got Fired From Your Job!'

Scott Jennings sent a CNN panel off the rails during a debate about President Donald Trump's tariffs when he chose to personally attack an ex-MSNBC host for getting cut from the network. The sole MAGA member of the NewsNight with Abby Phillip panel was engaged in a feisty to-and-fro with Tiffany Cross, who hosted The Cross Connection from 2020 to 2022, until her highly rated weekend morning show was canceled. Jennings reminded her of this as they discussed Trump's desire to take the island of Greenland from Denmark for 'national security.' 'It's a colonizer's attitude to say, I like it, I'm just gonna steal it,'' Cross said, before Jennings snipped: 'Steal what?' 'Land, land,' Cross replied. 'You cannot just go and say, 'I like it, it's mine now.' It doesn't work that way. That is what they're trying to do.' 'I have never, ever said we're going to go to Greenland and colonize it or steal it. That's crazy,' Jennings said, taking Cross's point personally. Then came the most tense part of the exchange, as Cross said: 'I'm not even talking about you. You're not a member of government. So you're irrelevant on that point. I'm talking about the president of the United States.' Turning to personal taunts, Jennings then slapped back: 'You got fired from your job. How relevant are you?' Cross managed to remain composed in the face of the attack and continued with her point after saying: 'What you lack in a legitimate point, you make up for in personal insults.' Jennings smiled and rolled his eyes, as CNN International host Richard Quest appeared to laugh at the jibe. The flashpoint came about after the panel discussed new trade relationships in the face of tariffs possibly isolating the U.S. from traditional trading partners. Greenland, and Trump's attitude towards 'taking' it, came up as a topic.

Ex-MSNBC Legal Analyst Has A Prediction For Trump, And It Involves 'The C-Word'

Glenn Kirschner, a former federal prosecutor and ex-MSNBC legal analyst, believes President Donald Trump and his Department of Justice will face criminal contempt charges over their defiance of U.S District Judge James E. Boasberg's orders to halt recent deportations. Trump invoked an 18th century wartime act last week to deport hundreds of immigrants to a prison in El Salvador, ignoring a verbal order from Boasberg. He has since called for the judge, whom the White House called a 'Democrat activist,' to be impeached. On 'The Dean Obeidallah Show' Thursday, Kirschner weighed the potential consequences. 'I was a prosecutor for 30 years,' he told the SiriusXM radio host. 'You don't write in pleadings or say in court, things like, 'Judge, we don't believe the information you're looking for is relevant.' Guess whose determination that is, sport? Not yours! The judge's!' 'We are going to see the C-word uttered very soon — contempt,' Kirschner continued. 'It will start as criminal contempt. It will very likely morph, it will start as civil contempt that will very likely morph into criminal contempt.' The openly defiant administration told Boasberg in a court filing Wednesday to be more 'respectful,' prompting the federal judge to give the administration 24 more hours to fulfill his demand for more information about their refusal to follow his initial order. The Justice Department characterized Boasberg's demand for information about the deportation flights as 'a picayune dispute over the micromanagement of immaterial factfinding,' as opposed to a potentially illegal defiance of a federal judge's order. 'I don't remember lawyers, in the times I practiced, telling judges, 'You don't know what you're talking about,' in writing!' Obeidallah, a former attorney, told Kirschner. 'And this is, I'm sure, [U.S. Attorney General] Pam Bondi doing this for Donald Trump.' On Friday, Trump claimed that he 'didn't sign' the document invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 that led to the deportations — and claimed 'other people handed it' — despite his name being readily visible at the bottom. The comment came less than a week after Trump baselessly claimed that his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, used an autopen during his time in office on numerous pardons that are now supposedly 'void.' Kirschner foresees things getting dicier for Trump. 'For the viewers at home, here's a fun fact,' he said Thursday. 'The only time a judge can appoint an independent prosecutor to prosecute a case, it is contempt of court for violating court orders. So hold on tight because the ride is going to get a whole lot bumpier.' Rebecca Kutler Named New MSNBC President

MSNBC named Rebecca Kutler its new president on Wednesday, removing the interim tag that has been included in her title since she took over for former boss Rashida Jones last month. 'In the short time that Rebecca was the interim president, it became clear to me that she has the big-picture strategic view and the right leadership skills to ensure MSNBC delivers on its brand promise and is positioned for growth during a time of industry change,' SpinCo CEO Mark Lazarus said in a statement. Kutler replaced Jones last month, after the ex-MSNBC president stepped down following four years in the role; she first joined MSNBC in 2022 as the SVP of content strategy, following 16 years at CNN. MSNBC suffered a major ratings decline following the 2024 election, but the channel has enjoyed a recent surge in viewership following President Trump's inauguration last month. Last week, MSNBC's primetime slate had its most-watched week since election week, with an average of 1.5 million viewers. Kutler, in a statement on Wednesday, said she talked to her team in January about the need to 'show up for our audience,' and in return, 'they will show up for us.' 'That is exactly what happened,' Kutler said. 'Our audience has shown up in a huge way, and they are surging back across all our platforms. That is a credit to each and every one of you.' The longtime media executive's goal over the next few years, she said, is to build on that recent momentum. 'Especially over the next year, this is going to be a really exciting time but also a challenging time,' Kutler said. 'I think it's important that we as leaders are honest about that and about the challenges ahead. Our jobs are hard on a normal day, and these are not normal times.' More to come… The post Rebecca Kutler Named New MSNBC President appeared first on TheWrap.
