Phillies Make Major Kyle Schwarber Announcement During Win Over Rockies

No one can accuse the Philadelphia Phillies of being unprepared when Kyle Schwarber made history Monday night. Schwarber officially entered the 300-home run club in Monday's 9-3 victory over the lowly Colorado Rockies, smashing a 466-foot shot to lead off the ninth inning. Teammates quickly celebrated Schwarber's 16th long ball of the season and him becoming the 11th active player with 300 career homers. Advertisement Schwarber joined teammate Bryce Harper and Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt among the six players who recorded their 300th home run in a Phillies uniform. The Phillies' official X/Twitter account proudly promoted Schwarber's latest feat immediately upon the ball hitting the right field upper deck's facade. '3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ Schwarbombs and counting,' the club wrote. 'Congratulations, Kyle!' The Phillies deserve credit for including images depicting Schwarber in a Chicago Cubs uniform. Schwarber hit his first home run with the Cubs in 2015 and remained in Chicago through 2020. 'If they asked 12-year-old Kyle if he'd hit 300 homers, I would have said, 'Probably not,'' Schwarber said after the game. 'Right? Advertisement 'But I've always loved the game, and I didn't know what it would hold,' Schwarber added, according to the Phillies' official website, 'but it's been really gracious to me.' Only Mike Trout (484 feet) and Aaron Judge (468 feet) have hit longer home runs this year. At 32 years old, Schwarber has plenty of time to continue climbing the all-time home run list. He's currently tied with Phillies legend Chuck Klein for 162nd in big-league history, and two more homers will put him in sole possession of 161st place. Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle SchwarberKen Blaze-Imagn Images Schwarber is quietly on pace to hit 55 home runs this year, giving him 339 through 11 seasons. In that case, he'd end the season in a four-way tie for 111th, joining ex-New York Yankees first baseman Tino Martinez, Pittsburgh Pirates legend Dave Parker, and longtime Baltimore Orioles slugger Boog Powell. Advertisement However, let's play it safe and say Schwarber hits another 25 homers, ending the year at 325. That'd put him in a four-way tie for 124th, though Pirates great Andrew McCutchen has 322 to his name; McCutchen entered play Tuesday with three home runs in 160 plate appearances. 'It's a cool milestone,' Schwarber said. 'I think the biggest thing is there's a lot more to come.' Phillies Trade Idea Adds Former Cy Young Finalist After Aaron Nola Move

If the Philadelphia Phillies' latest World Series window is closing, it might be time to add a former All-Star pitcher who is all too familiar with the NL East. The Phillies need another arm, especially after placing struggling veteran Aaron Nola on the injured list on Friday with a right ankle problem. Although there is no indication that Nola will miss extended time, he's also 1-7 with a 6.16 ERA and 11 homers allowed over 49.2 innings. Advertisement Regardless of whether or not the Phillies feel they can trust Nola in the postseason, that shouldn't keep them from at least calling the Athletics about ex-New York Yankees star Luis Severino. It's been a mixed bag thus far for Severino, who went 11-7 with a 3.91 ERA and 1.7 bWAR for the New York Mets last year. Severino threw six scoreless innings in Saturday's 1-0 loss to the Giants, striking out six and only walking one. By and large, Severino has been solid in the first season of a three-year, $67 million contract. Although a rough start to May inflated his overall stats, he nonetheless tallied a 3.30 ERA and averaged six innings over his first seven starts. Advertisement Severino is 1-4 with a 4.22 ERA and 1.8 bWAR for an A's team quickly falling in the AL West standings. The Athletics are 5-9 in May and could potentially sell at the deadline. No one will dispute that Severino is long removed from the dominant righty who posted consecutive top-10 Cy Young finishes for the Yankees in 2017-18. However, he's remained extremely durable the last two years, which is excellent news for a Phillies team chasing its first championship since 2008. Athletics starting pitcher Luis SeverinoKevin Jairaj-Imagn Images Severino won't come cheap, especially with $25 million guaranteed next year. The two-time All-Star also owns a $22 million player option for 2027, and players at that stage in their career (Severino turns 33 in February 2027) rarely pass on that kind of money. Advertisement The Phillies don't need Severino, per se, not in the way they need another outfield bat. But suppose Severino is available, and the Phillies would rather have him start a playoff game instead of Taijuan Walker or Ranger Suárez. In that case, the Phillies may as well inquire about a potential trade. Why not go all-in, especially with the Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres still lurking in the NL? Green Bay Packers signing ex-New York Giants DB Isaiah Simmons

Green Bay Packers signing ex-New York Giants DB Isaiah Simmons Former New York Giants linebacker/defensive back Isaiah Simmons has agreed to terms with the Green Bay Packers. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport was the first to report the news. The signing comes two days after the 2025 NFL draft and following the deadline for the compensatory pick formula. Simmons was originally the Arizona Cardinals' first-round pick (No. 8 overall) in the 2020 NFL draft. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team that year but quickly became positionless as Arizona changed systems. Shortly after declining his fifth-year option in 2023, the Cardinals traded Simmons to the Giants for a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft. In two seasons with the Giants, Simmons, who was moved to defensive back, appeared in 34 games (five starts), recording 71 tackles (45 solo, two for a loss), two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two QB hits, one sack, five passes defensed, one interception, and one defensive touchdown. Simmons also excelled on special teams, including a blocked field goal against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 of last season that was returned for a touchdown by wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton. He was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance.

Ex-NFL Kicker Jay Feely Credits 1 Trump Moment For Inspiring His Run For Congress

Former NFL kicker and Donald Trump supporter Jay Feely said the moment Trump survived an assassination attempt inspired him to seek political office. On Tuesday in Arizona, the ex-New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals player announced he was running for a U.S. House of Representatives seat in the 2026 midterms. He's vying for the 5th District post being vacated by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), who's running for governor. In a video shared by Cactus Politics, Feely said he discussed a run for office with Trump and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) at Mar-a-Lago two years ago, but it 'wasn't the right time.' He started to reconsider after Trump's ear was grazed by a gunman's bullet in Pennsylvania last summer. 'You see somebody who's willing to literally, intentionally give their life for our country, you start asking yourself, what am I doing and can I do more?' Feely said. 'And that's, I think, where my heart started to, like, lean towards running for office and actually thinking about it and praying about it,' he added. In an interview with Fox News, Feely applauded the Trump administration's crackdown on immigrants and accused former President Joe Biden of sitting by as 'tens of millions of illegals come into our country and he could have taken the measures that President Trump did in three months.' Some of the immigrants Trump has targeted in the last three months are in the country legally, and his administration has defiedthe courts in carrying out the deportations. Feely, who has spent several seasons covering football for CBS, also gave a shout-out to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for keeping Republicans 'united' behind Trump's 'endeavors to fix the border and fix our economy.' Trump has, however, conducted a market-rattling tariff trade war while intimidating Fed Chair Jerome Powell ― both of which have eroded financial trust in the country.
