Liverpool FC postpone further celebrations following horror incident at parade

Liverpool have decided to postpone some planned events on Tuesday to celebrate their Premier League title win following the terrifying incident at the parade on Monday Liverpool have told staff that planned events to celebrate their Premier League title win will no longer go ahead on Tuesday. The Reds had wanted to continue the celebrations internally with staff following a long season but have been shocked by the crash which overshadowed Monday's parade. Twenty-seven people were injured when a car ploughed into supporters on Water Street in the city centre on Monday evening. Police confirmed that a 53-year-old white British man had been arrested at the scene and the incident was not been treated as terrorism ‌ Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Tuesday morning, Liverpool City Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram said there were "still four people who are very, very ill in hospital". He added: "We are hoping of course that they pull through." ‌ In a statement on Monday evening, Liverpool wrote: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening. "Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident." And in an email seen by BBC News, the club told staff that internal events planned for Tuesday had been postponed. The email said the club 'will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities' and encouraged staff 'to come together at this time to support each other'. Liverpool Mayor Rotheram said in a statement on Monday morning: "There is still a police presence here and a tent up at the scene and the police will continue to carry out their investigations until they are satisfied that they have collected all the evidence and that they can open Water Street and the surrounding. "Yesterday is a complete contrast to the scene now, there is hardly anybody on the streets and yesterday there was up to one million people perhaps on these streets all with one thing in mind to show the football team that they love the admiration, the euphoria at winning the Premier League and watch their heroes go by and that's what happened to the large extent." Former Liverpool manager and captain Sir Kenny Dalglish said: 'Shocked, horrified and deeply saddened about what happened at the end of the parade today. 'Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone and their families who have been impacted by today's tragic event. Our anthem has never felt more appropriate, You'll Never Walk Alone. Your Liverpool family are behind you." Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher wrote on X: 'Devastating end to the day… just pray everyone is ok', while ex-Reds striker Robbie Fowler posted: 'Heartbreaking news… absolutely sickened with what's happened here in Liverpool." Ex-Liverpool striker John Aldridge posted: "For all the LFC family to all the people affected from today's horrific event, YNWA."

Alexander-Arnold reaction speaks volumes as Klopp sends second Liverpool message

LIVERPOOL 1-1 CRYSTAL PALACE: Trent Alexander-Arnold came on at half-time for his final appearance for the Reds, and while the game wasn't the real story, his impact was clear Well Trent Alexander-Arnold was never going to go quietly. After Jurgen Klopp became one of the final, and most authoritative voices to speak out on the booing Alexander-Arnold received when he came on against Arsenal earlier this month, the reaction to his half-time introduction was altogether different. ‌ This is a day for partying after all, with the real story of the day coming after the match with the Premier League trophy lift, but after receiving applause when his name was read out before the match and when he warmed up, Alexander-Arnold was cheered onto the pitch by the vast majority of Reds fans inside Anfield when he came on for Conor Bradley. ‌ Klopp's words still hold sway around here you see, and they were very clear. "I don't want to tell you what you have to think. I can tell you what you think is wrong," the ex-Reds boss had said as he returned to the city for an LFC Foundation event on Friday. "I don't tell you you should not be angry, you should not be disappointed, I tell you don't forget. This club doesn't forget. "I watched the game when he came on and I heard the booing. I switched the telly [television] off. Honestly, I could not have been more disappointed at this moment." And on his final Liverpool appearance before moving to Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold was hugely influential. Before the game Liverpool turned the tables on tradition and responded to being given a guard of honour by Palace, their fourth since winning the league, by honouring the new FA Cup winners with their own show of respect. All four corners of Anfield applauded as the Palace party following last week's Wembley success continued. ‌ Those celebrations extended into the match too, as Liverpool's slackness and drop in intensity since winning the league continued. Conor Bradley gave the ball away down the right, and with Ibrahima Konate out of position, Tyrick Mitchell was able to play in Ismaila Sarr - a former Liverpool target - and he finished well in front of the Kop. Liverpool's standards improved when Alexander-Arnold came on, and superb trademark ball played Darwin Nunez in for Dean Henderson to save smartly. "What a pass!" Klopp could be seen saying from the stands. ‌ Ultimately the Reds' big day wouldn't be marred with a defeat, despite a Ryan Gravenberch red card, with Mo Salah getting his customary goal at the Kop end when firing in from Cody Gakpo's knockdown. The game soon ceased to be relevant though, the final moments playing out to the raucous sounds of the home fans. How Alexznder-Arnold will miss that, and he they will miss him.

Alexander-Arnold's speech to team-mates and Liverpool parting gift revealed

Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving Liverpool after 20 years at the club, with the England international set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when the window opens next month Outgoing Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold gave an emotional speech after being given a parting gift during his final training session after 20 years at the club. Alexander-Arnold, 26, confirmed on May 5 that he won't be signing a new deal with the Reds and is poised to join Real Madrid on a free transfer. If selected by Arne Slot, Sunday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Anfield will mark his final appearance in a Liverpool shirt. Alexander-Arnold was booed by sections of the crowd during their last home match, but his team-mates and ex-Reds manager Jurgen Klopp have come out fighting for him amid the backlash. ‌ Captain Virgil van Dijk, who's among those to have publicly backed the defender, gathered Liverpool's players at training on Friday to pay tribute to Alexander-Arnold, as shown on Liverpool's YouTube channel. "Right, Trent," the Reds skipper began. ‌ "We all knew this day was coming, of course, and I speak for everyone here: we would like to thank you for everything you have done. Obviously in your time with Liverpool, the success that we had, the good moments together on and off the pitch, we are definitely going to miss you. "You're an outstanding player, a very good human being. We wish you well and yeah, listen, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have done. All the best. We have a little something for you." The squad applauded and Van Dijk handed the 26-year-old a framed shirt. Alexander-Arnold wasn't expecting the gift and said: "I'm just eternally grateful for everything that I've been given. "We all dream of these moments but, for me, it feels even more special because I've been here 20 years. It's an amazing chapter of my life - it's been my whole life - it's been everything I've ever worked for - dreamt for. ‌ "To share it with you guys and create these bonds, a lot of the lads, especially these guys here [Van Dijk, Mo Salah, Andy Robertson and Alisson Becker ], have seen me transition from a boy to a man. The bonds and the brotherhood I've got with you guys will remain with me forever. "I've got stories and memories I'll be able to tell kids and grandkids. I wasn't prepared for this, but I appreciate it, I appreciate all of you for everything."

Liverpool get huge Wirtz transfer boost as Bayern 'believe he'll join Reds'

Florian Wirtz had been widely expected to join Bayern Munich this summer, but interest from Liverpool have now turned the Germany international's head towards Anfield Bayern Munich believe Florian Wirtz won't be joining them this summer and is instead on track for a sensational move to Premier League champions Liverpool. Germany international Wirtz has long been expected to move to Bundesliga winners Bayern were he to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, but Liverpool's interest has now turned his head. ‌ The Athletic report that Wirtz would now favour a switch to Anfield, but a deal is not a formality due to the vast transfer fee involved for one of world football's premier young attacking playmakers. ‌ Wirtz, 22, has paid a visit to the north west of England to look at potential houses to live in, and should he join Liverpool then he would again become a team-mate of his Leverkusen colleague Jeremie Frimpong, who is poised to complete his own transfer to the Reds in the coming days. Wirtz has scored 16 goals and registered 15 assists for Leverkusen this season, while he chalked up 18 goals and 20 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions last season as Xabi Alonso's side won the Bundesliga title. Alonso will become the new Real Madrid manager this summer following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, while as well as Frimpong, key defender Jonathan Tah is expected to leave the club on a free transfer. Earlier this month Wirtz told Sports illustrated that he was "definitely keen" to move on from Leverkusen in the near future in order to "experience something new". Any move from Wirtz would smash Liverpool's current transfer record, with the 29-times capped Germany international set to cost north of £100million. ‌ Federico Chiesa is the only player signed under Arne Slot to have played for the Reds thus far, with the Italian international featuring just six times in the Premier League this season. Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will link up with the squad this summer having signed from Valencia last year. The Reds have tied down captain Virgil van Dijk and top scorer Mo Salah to new two-year contracts after a season of uncertainty over their futures, but homegrown right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will depart on a free transfer this summer and join ex-Reds midfielder Alonso at Real Madrid.
