James Argent ditches lawyers who kept him out of jail after attack on ex

James Argent has ditched the lawyer who kept him out of jail after he attacked his ex Nicoline Artursson at a rented Costa del Sol home James Argent has ditched the lawyer who kept him out of jail after he assaulted his former Miss Sweden girlfriend as he prepares for the start of the rehabilitation course he must do as part of his conviction. Court officials confirmed yesterday the process of ensuring the sentence imposed on the former TOWIE star is carried out began on Monday. Well-placed sources also said he had appointed a new legal team as the details of the resocialization programme are ironed out. Civil servants employed by Spain's Interior Ministry are expected to contact Argent's lawyer in the next few days to start discussions on where and when the 37-year-old will undertake his rehabilitation. Argent agreed to do the course on May 5 when he struck a plea bargain deal with public prosecutors and accepted a six-month suspended prison sentence for the assault earlier the same day on ex Nicoline Artursson at a rented Costa del Sol home. He was also given a restraining order preventing him from approaching the 32-year-old model or contacting her for the next two years. Argent's new lawyer is known to be based in Malaga but he has not yet been named. A Spanish court official said yesterday: 'The executory phase of the sentence has now been initiated. It was initiated on May 26.' A well-placed legal source added: 'The individual who was convicted has appointed a new barrister and solicitor. 'They haven't presented any special requests relating to the course their client has to do but that doesn't mean they can't or won't end up doing so. Normally it's a local social insertion centre, which is part of the Spanish penitentiary system and aims to help individuals transition back into society after a period of incarceration, which contacts the convicted person to establish the way they're going to do the course and address issues like the timetable." A source close to the former reality TV star-turned singer, who was told to pay just £250 compensation to Nicoline after pushing her down stairs during a row, claimed today he was now on his third Spanish lawyer following the insider said: 'Since the court case he's changed briefs twice.' Shamed Argent was filmed dancing with fans last week during his first gigs in Spain since the May 5 assault including one at pal Elliott Wright's trendy eatery Olivia's La Cala near the house in La Cala de Mijas between Fuengirola and Marbella where he attacked Nicoline. She suffered several injuries to her neck, arms, hand and leg which took seven days to heal. James was hauled to Fuengirola's Court of Violence Against Women later the same day and admitted a crime of 'mistreatment' as part of his plea bargain deal. Public prosecutors were intending to push for a nine-month prison sentence for the ex-TOWIE star before he agreed to admit to his crime. Experts have said they expect Argent to be obliged to attend ten once-a-week workshops where educators will try to make him see what he did was wrong and help him ensure he doesn't reoffend in the future as part of the resocialization course requirement linked to the sentence. The possibility he can do it in the UK has been downplayed in Spain because of Brexit. James confirmed his relationship with Nicoline last September. The pair told OK! magazine in their first interview together last November they were living together after Nicoline moved into her then-boyfriend's home in Essex and were already looking ahead to starting a family together.

Former TOWIE star James Argent returns to social media and branded 'shameful' after arrest

James Argent has made a return to social media after he was found guilty of domestic violence following an incident with his girlfriend, Nicoline Artursson Following a turbulent few weeks, James Argent has made a comeback on social media, his first appearance since an unsettling incident involving his girlfriend, Nicoline Artursson, resulted in his arrest. The ex-TOWIE star, 37, faced backlash from fans who labelled him 'shameful' after he shared a photo on his Instagram stories. The snap showed him alongside a mate at a black-tie charity do. He captioned the post: "It was an honour to perform for The Wickers Charity raising over £100,000. So proud of @brogangarritsmith for all her hard work." ‌ Dressed smartly in a black dinner suit and bow tie, Argent seemed cheerful as he posed for the camera at the posh London venue. He also took to the stage with The Arg Band, entertaining guests at the Wickers Charity Ball - an event aimed at tackling knife crime in London. ‌ Upon his return to Instagram following his arrest, disgruntled fans criticised the reality TV personality. Meanwhile, a source close to James and his partner Nicoline told The Sun: "James should be ashamed of himself. He is acting like nothing happened and seems to be trying to brush over this. What he did was serious. "People who knew them as a couple were so shocked by what had happened but now to see James smiling and playing up to the cameras. It feels shameless." The performance occurred mere days after Argent, aged 37, was handed a six-month suspended prison sentence and a two-year restraining order by a Spanish court, reports the Mirror. He had admitted to pushing Artursson during an intense dispute while the pair were holidaying in La Cala de Mijas. Eyewitnesses claim that the altercation intensified to the point where Argent was reportedly seen throwing clothes off a balcony and leaving the property with a bag. A witness shared their experience of consoling a very upset Artursson. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "She looked extremely distressed and nervous. She told me, 'I'm in total life with Arg was so happy before this. I can't believe what's planned to have a family.'". Police were called to the scene just before midnight, but by the time they, along with Artursson's mother, arrived, Argent had already departed. ‌ Spanish police confirmed his arrest on charges of domestic violence. He subsequently faced a judge at a specialised gender-based violence court in Fuengirola, where he received his sentence. Reports also indicate that Argent might be obliged to participate in a ten-week domestic violence intervention programme, which involves listening to accounts from survivors. Argent addressed the issue with a statement after the court ruling, declaring: "I haven't relapsed. I am still three years and four months clean and sober. I am devastated by what's happened." Argent's team have been contacted for further remarks regarding the incident.

James Argent returns to the stage days after arrest over assault on girlfriend

Former TOWIE star James Argent has been pictured performing back on stage days after it was revealed he was arrested in Spain over an alleged assault on his girlfriend. He made a return to the spotlight on Friday night at a charity bash. He was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for a gender violence offence against Swedish model Nicotine Artursson, it was revealed this week. Dressed in a dinner suit with bow tie, he performed with The Arg Band at a glitzy charity boxing gala. The ex-TOWIE favourite, 36, was all smiles as he took to the stage at the Wickers Charity Ball in London, crooning for a packed crowd raising funds to tackle knife crime. Putting the recent drama on the Costa Del Sol behind him, he put on a high-energy show to a packed crowd. A source said: 'Arg didn't address his recent troubles. He just did the gig like he normally would.' Fans danced along to his set and queued up for selfies with the reality star-turned-wedding singer, who was pictured posing with a few of them. Argent returned to work for the first time since news of the assault came to light. He's yet to make a full public statement about the incident in the Costa Del Sol. Spanish police this week confirmed the reality star was arrested for "an alleged crime of domestic violence" against Nicoline. He appeared before the Court of Violence against Women, in Fuengirola, and was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for a gender violence offence. Former Miss Sweden Nicoline, 32, was on a getaway with him in Mijas, near Malaga, Spain, on May 5 when a diner at a nearby restaurant witnessed a commotion from across the road. Sobbing in the street after the altercation with the Towie star, she told a passerby: "I can't believe what's happened... we planned to have a family.' The witness said they saw Arg throwing clothes off the balcony and heard him screaming in the house before he ran out with a bag. James, 37 - also known as Arg - has kept a low profile since news of the incident broke. He broke his silence earlier this week, saying: "I haven't relapsed. "I am still three years and four months clean and sober. I am devastated by what's happened." Towie suspended Argent from filming in October 2014 when he failed a drug test. He later attended rehab before returning to the series. But he has regularly been an inpatient at centres due to his issues with drug addiction and in an interview in November he said he'd been clean and sober for three years. He'd been dating Nicoline, 32, since last summer after meeting in Marbella. Following police action, he has been banned from contacting the former Miss Sweden for two years.
