HOPES of a heatwave hitting Ireland in the coming weeks have been dashed - with the country instead bracing for more rain. But meteorologists have warned that another heatwave is unlikely to be on the cards until later in the season. Although a warm blast of air will sweep near the country, it's not yet known how much of it will actually reach Ireland. And forecasts indicate that regardless of how much of it hits the island, the warm spell will be short lived. READ MORE IN IRISH NEWS But forecasters have predicted a return to higher temperatures later in the month. Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said: "Weather models showing a very brief blast of warm air over Ireland this day next week but models differ on how much of it reaches Ireland. "They do however agree that it will be a short lived either way. "Still hope of more prolonged warm sunny spell later in month." Met Eireann said: "Highest temperatures of 12C to 17C in light to moderate westerly breezes." Tonight is forecast to be mostly cloudy with some "heavy bursts" of rain possible in Munster and south Leinster. Temperatures will be between 6C and 10C. Tomorrow, June 7, will bring on a wet weekend with some sunny spells scattered here and there. DRY NIGHT Weather experts predicted: "Damp or wet to begin tomorrow, Saturday, with cloud and rain gradually clearing eastwards, giving way to a mix of bright or sunny spells and showers spreading from the west. "The showers will become largely confined to the east by evening. "Highest temperatures of just 11C to 15C with moderate northwesterly winds developing and increasing fresh at times near coasts." Saturday night is set to be mainly dry and clear, with temperatures between 4C and 9C. Sunday will bring a mixture of both sun and showers, despite some cloud in the west and southwest. BRIGHT & SUNNY Westerly winds mean the temperature will sit between 13C and 17C. And next week, the weather is set to be humid although unpredictable still. Monday will bring cloud and drizzle which will be more "persistent" in Connacht and Ulster. And similar predictions are in place for Tuesday with some brighter, sunnier conditions in the south of the country. Met Eireann said: "Brighter, sunnier conditions further south with scattered showers. "Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in light to moderate westerly or variable breezes." Sharing a picture of the buy and her well-kept plant, she said: "The never ending Hosta vs Slugs (Quest). "Having tried all other options & suggestions and failed, this stuff is working for me. "Strong garlic smell plus the oily content stops the blighters getting up my pots. "Been spraying the plants & around pot edges every other day for a week or so." Carol swore by the Frylight 1 Cal Garlic Oil Cooking Spray to keep her plants protected from the pests. While most save the oil for the frying pan she said it helped keep slugs away and it cost just £1.74 from Asda. Gardening hacks to grow fruit from your weekly shop The strong scent of garlic repels slugs while the oily consistency makes it hard for them to climb up plants. The post quickly went viral on the Facebook group and many thanked her for the tip and were eager to try it for themselves. One person wrote: "That is a genius idea! I'm going to try it, I don't suppose it would harm plants to spray it on the stems/leaves." Another commented: 'My worry would be the leaves being fried in the sun with oil on them." Keep pests out all summer Hornets and wasps - hate the smell of peppermint oil so spraying this liberally around your patio or balcony can help to keep them at bay. Moths - acidic household white vinegar is effective for deterring moths. Soak some kitchen roll in vinegar and leave it in your wardrobe as a deterrent.
