Man charged with hitting police officer with pickup truck on Chicago's Northwest Side

A man was facing multiple felony charges Sunday night after police said he hit a Chicago police officer with a truck in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. The man was shot and wounded by Chicago police in the incident. Carlos Sanchez-Roa, 28, of Hammond, Indiana, was charged with one felony count each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery to a peace officer, and aggravated assault on a peace officer. Police said just after 2 a.m. Saturday, police were called for a battery in progress and shots fired outside a business near Belmont and Central avenues. An employee told officers that during a large fight, someone had fired a gun and directed them to the person, a 28-year-old man, who was getting into a red pickup truck. As officers approached on foot and ordered the man out of the vehicle. He refused and accelerated the vehicle in their direction, hitting an officer, police said. The officers then fired their weapons at the truck as it continued to leave the scene. Responding officers found the truck in the 3200 block of North Menard Avenue a few blocks away, where the man, who had been hit by the officers' gunfire, was on the ground near the vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds to his body. The man was arrested and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. Police said a weapon was recovered from inside the truck. Police said Sanchez-Roa was due in court for a detention hearing on Monday.

Teen accused of pistol-whipping another at Deltona park; gun linked to car break-ins, deputies say

The Brief A 15-year-old was arrested for pistol-whipping a teen during a fight at Dewey Boster Park. The gun used was stolen during a prior car burglary linked to the same suspect. He now faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated battery and armed burglary. ORLANDO, Fla. - Volusia Sheriff's deputies arrested a 15-year-old boy after he allegedly pistol-whipped another at a Deltona park during an altercation. What we know A 15-year-old boy was arrested by Volusia County Sheriff's deputies after allegedly pistol-whipping another teen during a confrontation at Dewey Boster Park in Deltona on Wednesday, May 28. According to authorities, the victim had been at the park with his girlfriend when a group of teens approached, seeking to fight over a prior school-related dispute. During the altercation, the suspect reportedly pulled a 9mm handgun and struck the victim on the side of the head before engaging in a physical fight. Surveillance footage obtained from the park confirmed details of the altercation. The teen was arrested the following day at his Deltona home. Deputies recovered the firearm — hidden inside a crossbody bag in the garage of a friend's house — and later linked it to a car burglary that occurred weeks earlier. What we don't know Investigators have not yet identified the other teens involved. It's also unclear whether charges will be filed against any additional individuals or how the group confrontation was organized. Authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect has any prior criminal history or whether he will be charged as an adult. The backstory The incident stems from an ongoing conflict that reportedly began at school and spilled into a public setting. The victim told deputies that the confrontation escalated when the suspect and others confronted him at the park. The fight quickly turned violent with the use of a firearm — later determined to be stolen — intensifying the charges. Big picture view The fact that the weapon used was possibly linked to a previous armed car burglary and theft underscores broader issues of stolen guns ending up in the hands of teens. What they're saying The Volusia County Sheriff's Office confirmed the arrest in a statement, emphasizing that detectives "continue to investigate this case, including interviews with other juveniles and a search warrant." Bossier man convicted series of armed robberies

BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A Bossier man has been convicted on multiple felony charges related to a series of armed robberies that occurred in 2021 in and around Bossier City. On September 24, 2021, a man dressed in a black hoodie wearing sunglasses and a face mask walked into the Exxon Food Mart in the 2200 block of Barksdale Boulevard in Bossier City. he pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded money. According to the Bossier/Webster District Attorney's office, in less than three hours, two other locations nearby were robbed similarly. Each robbery victim told the police that the suspect pointed a gun at them in a similar manner, but reported different clothing for the robber in the three incidents that night, according to the press release. At trial, jurors heard from several Bossier City Police officers, including the lead investigator, Detective Jason Warren. He testified that the Raceway on Old Minden Road was robbed the same night. Surveillance footage from a nearby establishment showed a white Dodge truck with an orange toolbox arrive shortly before the robbery. Detective Warren said that a man exited the truck, walked toward the Raceway, and was later seen running back to the vehicle and driving off. An hour later, a man wearing a gold LSU hoodie and green face covering, matching the one used at the Raceway robbery, also robbed the Circle K nearby. 'Investigators used license plate readers in the area and quickly located a possible match for the white Dodge truck. In less than twelve hours from the time of the first armed robbery, detectives with the Bossier City Police Department had identified Jesus Perez as a person of interest,' said the Bossier/Webster Parish DA. Detectives discovered through surveillance footage that Perez's home was centrally located to the three armed robbery locations. The detailed officers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as the suspect. WATCH: Our docuseries 'Beyond the Headlines: Firearms Impact & Responsibility' When questioned, Perez admitted his clothes and truck may have been involved in the robberies, but claimed his brother and his brother's girlfriend borrowed the truck the day before, and likely committed the crimes. Detective Warren found that the brother was in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the time of the robberies, and the girlfriend was incarcerated in the Bossier Parish jail at the time. Bossier/Webster District Attorney Schuyler Marvin stated a search warrant led to the discovery of cash from the robberies, and a gun matching the description was found tucked under the pillow of Perez's bed with the serial number removed, adding a felony charge for the firearm. DA Marvin said the various outfits were found in the white truck. 'Detective Jason Warren and the entire Bossier City Police Department should be commended for their swift yet thorough investigation related to these armed robberies. A large number of officers were faced with the challenge of securing and investigating three separate crime scenes all at the same time. Yet they developed a lead and caught this guy in less than 12 hours,' said Bossier/Webster District Attorney Marvin. Perez will be sentenced for armed robbery, each count carrying ten to 99 years at hard labor plus a five-year enhancement for the use of a firearm. He also faces one to five years for possessing a gun with an 'obliterated serial number.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
