911th Airlift Wing will conduct Memorial Day flyovers across the Pittsburgh area. Here's where.

The 911th Airlift Wing will conduct a series of flyovers on Memorial Day across the Pittsburgh area, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The 911th Airlift Wing is scheduled to conduct C-17 Globemaster III flyovers starting at 10:45 a.m. Monday. People in multiple communities should be prepared to hear and see low-flying aircraft. The airlift wing says each flyover is part of the Air Force Reserve's mission to "honor fallen service members, demonstrate the capabilities of the force, and inspire patriotism across the nation." (Photo by Joshua Seybert) Community members are invited to "observe the flyovers in solemn remembrance of all those who have given their lives in service to the United States." Where will the flyovers happen? The flyovers will happen at several cemeteries as part of the Bethel Park, South Hills, Zelienople and Irwin Memorial Day parades. They'll also fly over Richmond Township Community Park, Anderson Field in Shaler Township and Breckenridge Park. The 911th Airlift Wing says the events are part of training that's already scheduled and they don't come at an additional cost to taxpayers. The 911th Airlift Wing, located at the Pittsburgh International Airport, provides "mission-ready C-17 airlift, aeromedical evacuation, and agile combat support," according to its website. It has about 1,220 Air Force Reserve members and employs around 250 Department of Defense civilians.

Gateshead flyover demolition will start in autumn, council says

Work to start tearing down a flyover is set to start in the autumn, council bosses have A167 Gateshead Highway was closed in December due to safety concerns and it has since been earmarked for 1960s-built route, which previously carried about 40,000 vehicles a day, should see preliminary removal work begin in Council leader Martin Gannon said "something radical" was needed "to make a real difference to Gateshead's future and the prosperity of its residents". The Labour-led authority formally agreed in March the flyover should go, allowing for a wider town centre regeneration, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service."The flyover is an eyesore and isn't a structure that we need any more in terms of transport," said Gannon."We are taking the opportunity this closure has presented us with, to demolish the flyover, helping us make Gateshead and the town centre attractive for residents and businesses, as well as for visitors - and for investors."In March, Gannon said the flyover would be "gone within a year, for definite", while the council provisionally earmarked £18m for the works. It is also planning a campaign encouraging people to shop in the town centre. This is in response to high street traders having warned the disruption caused by the flyover closure risked killing off local businesses. The flyover's closure also sparked a festive travel crisis on Tyneside, with underground Metro services having to be suspended due to fears it could have since been carried out to encase two failing pillars in new concrete, thereby reinforcing the chiefs have held ambitions of removing the flyover since 2008, replacing it with a tree-lined boulevard and new housing and job those plans have never before had the funding to proceed and there have been repeated warnings that such future development will be reliant on government support. Detroit student pilots perform flyover to honor Tuskegee Airmen: "They mean a lot to this country"

Clear skies in Detroit on Friday made the perfect backdrop for a special flyover for one of the nation's heroes. "I was very excited, very happy to honor the Tuskegee Airmen. They mean a lot to this country and the Air Force history," said student pilot Trinity Sims. Lt. Col. Harry Stewart was one of the two last surviving combat pilots of World War II's famous 332nd fighter group, the Tuskegee Airmen. After Stewart's death in February at the age of 100, the team behind the Tuskegee Airmen National Museum wanted to honor his legacy with the next generation of pilots. On Friday, they conducted a flyover before Stewart was laid to rest. "It's an honor for me, I really appreciate the opportunity to do this," said student pilot Angel Araus. Museum vice president Larry Sargent says the students taking flight are just some of the incredible young people who are part of the airmen's enduring legacy. "We still have a ceiling here yet to break, and here we're instrumental in doing it," said Sargent, Vice President. Surrounded by aircraft that have flown throughout history, Sargent remembers the lessons he learned from Stewart and the men who flew alongside him. "We must do a job so well that the living, the dead, and the unborn couldn't have done a better job to be accepted, because they'll challenge us in everything that we do. But if we got that covered, nobody else can top us," said Sargent.

Drivers warned of disruption during flyover works The Hessle Road flyover carries traffic and pedestrians over a railway line Drivers in Hull are being told to expect a year of disruption, as engineers are appointed to investigate what work needs to be done to protect a 1960s-built flyover. The research would determine the feasibility of strengthening the Hessle Road flyover. Hull City Council said the engineering firm would try to minimise the impact of the work on traffic. The authority added the structure "retains sufficient loading capacity to operate safely". The flyover is currently open to all traffic, it said.
