Stuff the Truck benefits Urbandale Food Pantry
DES MOINES, Iowa — Members of the community gathered for the Stuff the Truck food drive in support of the Urbandale Food Pantry. The Urbandale Food Pantry opened a new facility in April and served more than 2,000 families in the first month alone. On Saturday, they partnered with local businesses Van Meter Incorporated and Baker Electric to pack Big Grove Brewery and fill a truck with non-perishable food, personal care items, and monetary gifts. In addition, all donations were matched up to $3,000. The Urbandale Food Pantry served more than 57,000 people across 76 zip codes in 2024. They say it's important to remember that even if they seem alright, families might need more help than you think. What drew thousands to Dam to DSM, runners share stories 'Food insecurity isn't always visible, but it's in every community, and hunger is rarely about food and more about impossible decisions that families have to make. So we can find fun and creative ways to get the community involved,' said Patty Sneddon, CEO of the Urbandale Food Pantry. President and CEO of Baker Electric, Cory Sloss, says these events help build up the community. 'Des Moines is a small community when you stop and think about it and I think, the more you're in it and the more business you do here, everyone is your friend, you have a lot of relationships here. It's really about just coming together and helping each other with everybody's mission, the more we tie that together the more successful we all are.' Danielle Monthe is the Van Meter Community Impact Manager and says it's encouraging to see businesses looking out for their neighbors. 'There's a lot of great companies in the area that want to do good, and as the electrical industry is booming right now. So, when we can kind of use our growth to fuel the growth of human services and specifically the food pantry, that's what we want to do,' said Monthe. Food Bank needs volunteers after a successful Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Here in Texoma, tens of thousands of meals are on their way to families in need, thanks to this year's Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Over 38,000 pounds of food collected across 12 counties, but the work doesn't stop there. Volunteers are needed to help sort and distribute it all. The donations came from people leaving bags of food at their mailboxes with mail carriers collecting the goods during their routes and taking it to the food pantries in their districts. Now, the focus has shifted to sorting, checking, and distributing all that food. Volunteers are still needed to help process the donations and organizers say every extra pair of hands makes a difference. WFAFB Marketing Director, Zachary Graham says this drive is more than numbers, it's about neighbors helping neighbors. 'School just ended and we have a lot of parents that now are taking care of their children's lunch and breakfast needs that the school used to take care of. So, there's just an extra strain on an already stressful time for a lot of people. And so, it's really important that for this summer we have all the food that we can give', said Graham. In Wichita Falls alone, they received 25,000 pounds, but as impressive as these numbers are, what matters most is the impact once it leaves the food bank. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. 'But when you see the City of London's ongoing commitment to this drive and the dozens of partners that have assisted through the years, we are upbeat given the marvelous generosity of this community,' said Pearson. NYSEG supports Hornet Hope Center
BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – NYSEG is ensuring SUNY Broome students have access to food and other necessary items with its latest company wide initiative. NYSEG recenty held a food drive for SUNY Broome's Hornet Hope Center. Employees donated 782 pounds of food, the pantry's largest ever donation. The Hornet Hope Center was established last year and feeds students in need. It offers non-perishable items, frozen foods, and refrigerated foods. It is also home to a clothing closet. Director of Communications for NYSEG Shelby Cohen says one of the reasons the company chose the pantry is because of its partnership with the school through the Line Worker Training Program. Cohen says employees were excited to participate in the food drive because they could be potentially feeding their future coworkers. 'Food insecurity is really common amongst college kids and when you're learning and in a learning environment, it's one of the most important times to have good nutrition and to not be hungry because you need your brain to work for those functions,' she said. According to SUNY Broome, donations had decreased while use of the pantry has increased. The Hornet Hope Center is located on campus in the Science Building, thanks to a 100 thousand dollar donation from NYSEG's parent company Avangrid.
