Footy legend Warwick Capper reveals his baby joy just after being barred from all AFL games for five years
AFL cult hero Warwick Capper has shared the exciting news that he has become a grandfather at the age of 62. The former Sydney and Brisbane forward revealed the happy news that he was now a proud grandparent while celebrating with manager and cohost of the T-Whiz podcast, Tony Marks, on Wednesday. 'I've got a new girl this morning, so I'm very happy, Tony,' said Capper. Marks added: 'We are celebrating a couple of things... the legend, The Whiz, Warwick Capper is a grandfather.' In January this year, the footy high flyer said that he was 'over the moon' after his son Indiana informed him that his long-term partner was pregnant. 'How good is that,' the footy larrikin said. 'Mum [ex-wife Joanne] is happy, I'm happy. The Swans legend (pictured playing for Sydney) got the good news after his alleged behaviour at the 2024 AFL grand final saw him cop a massive ban from the league 'He [Indiana] is engaged and he's been with his Mrs for nine years. '61 and a grandfather, that's alright. I'm still pretty fit and going alright.' Capper and his son once had a falling out, with Indiana accusing him of being 'a disgrace.' But today, they're back in touch. Last month, Capper was banned from all AFL matches after alleged inappropriate behaviour at last year's footy grand final. Marks said Capper had made a 'light-hearted joke' towards a female while at the match. 'No doubt there's a few inappropriate things said in the caricature that is Warwick Capper and playing the class clown, but five years from every AFL venue, including no cricket, concerts … that stinks,' Marks said. 'He did make a light-hearted joke to somebody in the room, but not with any ill will. He definitely didn't walk up and say it directly to her. 'There's a generation of people who didn't grow up with Warwick but for 95 per cent of people in that room he was being the joking Warwick Capper, an entertainer. 'He knows he needs to pull his socks up with some of his jokes, but under no circumstances would he want anyone to be offended. He was making a joke and it was overheard and offence was taken.' Capper kicked 388 goals over a 124-game career, finishing runner-up twice in the Coleman Medal. The one-time Sydney Swans pin-up boy also famously booted 103 goals in the 1987 season.

See the telling signs that are fuelling speculation one of footy's biggest stars has split with his AFLW girlfriend
In-demand footy star Harley Reid could be single and ready to mingle, if his updated Instagram is any guide. The West Coast Eagles midfielder, 20, has been dating Yasmin Duursma since January last year - but the footballers appear to have split. Duursma plays for Carlton in the AFLW, and the pair have known one another since their pre-teens after both growing up in Victoria. A quick search of Reid's Instagram page reveals the rising star has removed Duursma's initials from his Instagram bio - while Duursma has deleted pictures of the pair from her own feed. The couple made their red carpet debut together at last year's Brownlow Medal. Meanwhile, speculation is mounting that Reid could sign the 'biggest deal in AFL history' with West Coast. Reid has known Duursma (pictured together) since they were both growing up in Victoria AFL Media reporter Cal Twomey told Footy Classified this week it was 'crunch time' when it comes to Reid's future in Western Australia. 'He's had contract offers in front of him since April that have come from the Eagles,' Twomey said. 'But in recent weeks, his management have sent counter offers to the Eagles – and a part of that includes a mammoth offer that would be a two-year extension, plus an extension on top of that of another nine years. 'So an 11-year arrangement. 'This is ground-breaking, really, it would be the biggest deal in AFL history by some way and it would take him through to the end of 2037. '(We are talking) $20 million-plus would be on the table.' Hawthorn and Geelong - who Reid supported as a child - are also said to be interested in securing his services. If struggling West Coast - who have only won one game this AFL season - and Reid agreed to the bumper deal tabled by his management, it would be similar to the contract offered to Port Adelaide's Miles Bergman. Bergman, 23, inked a two-year deal in July and can sign for an extra seven years with the Power if he chooses.

Eddie McGuire blasts Channel Seven star Andy Maher for being a hypocrite after he was caught up in an ugly moment at the footy with a drunk fan
Eddie McGuire has blasted Channel Seven rival Andy Maher for criticising fans who drink too much at the footy after the Front Bar host was caught up in ugly scenes at the Carlton vs Collingwood match last Saturday night. Security guards had to step in when Maher was confronted by a spectator he later described as 'pretty pi**ed' and 'munted'. On Monday, the 61-year-old commentator lashed out at fans who get drunk at games in comments that got McGuire offside. 'The last five times I've gone to the footy with the kids it [fans drinking] has been an issue and it's always been in the MCC [Melbourne Cricket Club] members, which is the troubling thing,' Maher said. 'Why do you have to come along and get yourself munted and then make a fool of yourself and ruin everyone else's experience?' McGuire hit back at Maher on Wednesday night's edition of Nine's Footy Classified show. No idea what this was about with this drongo, but bravo to Andy for keeping a level head — Adrian Sal (@adriansal80) July 21, 2025 'I was going to say something about a story that was coming up with Andy Maher, but I'll let it go until next week. I don't need to have a blue with anybody at the moment,' McGuire said. 'But if you're hosting a show called The Front Bar, don't complain about people drinking at the footy.' The Front Bar has been sponsored by beer companies since it started in 2017, first partnering with Carlton Draught, then switching to Furphy in 2023. The show features regular hosts Maher, Mick Molloy and Sam Pang drinking beers as they interview guests, who usually have a beer themselves. Daily Mail Australia does not suggest that the show does, or ever has, promoted irresponsible drinking. The vision of the Maher incident shows a man who was unsteady on his feet get out of his seat and confront the commentator and noted Carlton fan. It is not known what the man said, but he could be seen touching Maher's shoulder during the clash, as other fans yelled for security to have him removed. A woman could be seen trying to de-escalate the situation before MCG security arrived and escorted the disruptive man away. 'It was the last three minutes of the game and I noticed there were two blokes who were pretty pi**ed,' Maher said. '[Comedian] Dave Hughes was sitting four rows behind me and my attention was caught by Hughesy saying, "You can't say that to the old bloke, you've crossed the line, take it back, apologise". 'Then this bloke looked up at me and saw me sitting there and I said, "Mate, just shoosh". That was it. 'Then he came over to me and said, "Andrew Maher, I know you. You will listen to me". 'He was pi**ed and wouldn't sit down, so then he got chucked out.' The incident took place in front of Maher's daughters, who he said were 'a bit freaked out' by the fan. 'The last five times I've gone to the footy with the kids it [fans drinking] has been an issue and it's always been in the MCC [Melbourne Cricket Club] members, which is the troubling thing.' According to comments on social media from people who claimed to have witnessed the clash, Maher kept his cool throughout the encounter. '....some deranged Dees supporter was having a crack at @AndyMaher behind me. Poor bloke was just trying to watch the game with his kids,' posted an X user. 'No idea what this was about with this drongo, but bravo to Andy for keeping a level head,' replied another.

NRL grand final hero faces long ban for alleged heated incident with a referee during a footy match
An NRL Grand Final hero has landed in hot water after he allegedly swore at a referee during a footy match. Andrew Fifita was playing for De La Salle during a clash against the Gymea Gorillas last weekend when the incident took place. Fifita made 213 appearances for Cronulla Sharks and was a part of the team that won their maiden premiership title in 2016, notably scoring a try that led to the game-winning conversion. According to The Daily Telegraph, the 36-year-old is alleged to have called a referee a '****' during the first half of the match. He is now facing a five-match suspension over the matter, having been slapped with a Grade Two offensive language charge. 'He has pleaded not guilty and will face a judiciary hearing tomorrow night,' an NSWRL spokesperson said. Fifita, pictured with his wife Nikitia, denied that he had directed the comment toward the referee 'The NSWRL will make no further comment until the judicial matter is complete.' It also now means that Cronulla will be under the spotlight to sack the former footy star, should he be found guilty, who is the coach of their Tarsha Gale women's junior representative side. The prop forward is also employed by the Sharks as part of its culture and welfare team. 'It's an awkward situation because of his profile and the coaching position,' sources close to the club said to Nine's Wide World of Sports. Cronulla executive Dino Mezzatesta revealed that he has spoken with Fifita about the incident, with the forward insisting that he had not made the alleged comment towards the referee. 'Andrew was sent off for swearing, but he has advised the club he didn't direct it at the referee it was directed at an opposing player, who has also confirmed that the comment was directed at him,' Mezzatesta said. 'He has also acknowledged that the language was inappropriate all the same. 'Andrew is waiting for a date from NSWRL for his hearing, where he will be contesting the charge. 'The Cronulla Sharks will wait for this process to be completed.' It's not the first time that the footy player has found himself in front of a rugby league tribunal after he and his brother, David, were once stood down from playing junior rugby league games in Penrith for 12 months. Fifita had been accused of physically threatening a referee, following a match between Penrith Juniors and St Patricks in 2015. His brother, David, was also accused of swearing at the referee, telling the official 'you're a f***ing disgrace mate.'
