"We've built up a good relationship with folks, and they really come through for us," said owner Patrick Meyer. "It's a difficult situation asking people to help, but it's worked out well for us so far." Meyer said it needs to move out of its current warehouse, which is too big for its needs amid falling sales, and its lease has expired. "There's also some extra costs associated with us getting out of the warehouse quicker," owner Patrick Meyer said. "We have to find a temporary warehouse spacing, we have to hire more trucks faster, so it's put us in a bit of a crunch." Sarah Smith to headline concert for Ark Aid Street Mission

Beloved London songstress Sarah Smith is putting her music where her heart is this weekend, helping some of the city's most vulnerable. Smith, along with her friend and event co-organizer Kimmer Marsh, staged an informal concert Wednesday afternoon at Ark Aid Street Mission on Dundas Street for the agency's clients. It was the preview to a major fundraiser Saturday night at Eastside Bar and Grill on Hamilton Road. Smith and Marsh are hosting the second annual 'Kimmer and Sarah's Walk in My Shoes 2025.' The event raises funds for the Ark Aid Street Mission's '365 Days of Rest' campaign, which provides shelter and meals for more than 2,500 Londoners in need. Organizers are hoping to raise $10,000 for the Ark. 'Yes, we're funded in part by the city, but we actually have a fundraising goal of two million dollars for the year, and we can't do it alone,' explained Ark Aid executive director Sarah Campbell. 'And so, these third-party fundraiser events really do help us to achieve our goals of supporting people on the streets, making sure we fill gaps that government funding just doesn't touch,' she added. 'I want to make change for the homeless. There's too many on the street. We need to get them off the street. And we can only do that with all our friends,' said Marsh. 'I love playing music, it's a real passion,' added Smith. 'And to also be able to make a change in the community is a huge, huge blessing to be able to do,' said the performer. Saturday's concert at Eastside gets underway at 7:00 pm. Details and registration can be found at:

Fundraiser launched for Sophia Rose's family after 3yo allegedly killed by mum

A fundraiser has been launched for the devastated family of Sophia Rose, with the little girl remembered for her 'big eyes' and 'infectious laugh' in the aftermath of Monday's nightmare. The GoFundMe, launched by family friend Connor Thompson, has raised nearly $10,000 from a $15,000 target, with a yellow rose posted to the appeal as a tribute to the toddler's life. 'Sophia Rose was a sweet little girl with big eyes and an infectious laugh that could light up the room,' the appeal reads. 'Her smile was like a ray of sunshine and her heart was as pure of gold. Sophia always wanted to help and was the best big sister to her baby brother and sister. 'Though her time here was short, the love she gave and the joy she shared will stay with us forever.' The appeal comes just days after Sophia Rose was allegedly murdered by her mother Lauren Ingrid Flanigan, 32. Police have charged Ms Flanigan with murder, alleging she stabbed Sophia Rose multiple times at their Moore Park Beach home north of Bundaberg, about 365km north of Brisbane, on Monday afternoon. Ms Flanigan, a member of the Alive Church in Bundaberg, remains in custody. 'In the wake of an unimaginable tragedy, a grieving father and little boy and girl is left to cope with the devastating loss of their beloved daughter and sister,' the appeal reads. 'Her life was taken far too soon, leaving behind a family and community shattered by sorrow. In this incredibly difficult time, we are reaching out to ask for your support. 'Your donations will help this father navigate the overwhelming financial burden of funeral expenses, legal fees, a place to call home and the emotional toll of this tragedy. 'No amount is too small – every contribution provides a small light during this dark time, allowing him to focus on healing and honouring the memory of his precious daughter.' Burnett MP Stephen Bennett, in a post to social media on Thursday, said the event had rocked the small Bundaberg community. 'My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families involved in the several tragic incidents across the region over the last days and weeks,' he said. 'These shocking events rock our small communities, but your support for each other is what will get us through and eventually help us heal. 'If you or anyone you know needs help, please reach out to Lifeline, Kids Helpline Official, 13 Yarn, Beyond Blue.'

(Lyndsay Aelick/CTV News Northern Ontario) The annual fundraiser, launched in 2019 by the late Mitch Spiegel, originally supported NEO Kids. Last year, it redirected funds to L'Arche Sudbury, raising $26,000. Organizers aim to generate at least $35,000 in 2024, with $3 from each burger sold going to the cause. Gerry Lougheed, a Burger Wars spokesperson, announced a matching donation initiative by the Lougheed Foundation. 'Geoffrey said, 'Well, you and your grandson (Kiran) have such a great time. We should kind of support that,'' Lougheed said at the launch event on Wednesday, May 28 – National Burger Day. 'So today, he and I decided the first $25,000 will match... We're hoping to generate in excess of $50,000.' (Lyndsay Aelick/CTV News Northern Ontario) Hope to build another site L'Arche Sudbury currently operates three homes and a community participation program. The organization is fundraising for a fourth location – a 28-unit accessible residence on Bancroft Drive, estimated to cost $30 million. Jennifer Cawley Caruso, board chair of L'Arche Sudbury, said the capital campaign has secured about $2 million so far. 'We need commitment from the provincial government and from the federal government to help us in this endeavour,' she said. 'That's a work in progress... There's more than one way to do things and so we're exploring two or three different ways at the moment.'
