Liverpool parade driver, 53, accused of deliberately driving car into crowd of football fans has trial date set
The man accused of deliberately driving a car into a crowd of Liverpool football fans has had his trial date set. Paul Doyle, 53, appeared in court today charged with seven offences including dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The father-of-three is said to have used his car 'deliberately as a weapon' to strike people walking back from a football parade in Liverpool city centre on May 26. Doyle faces charges relating to six victims, including two children aged 11 and 17, after a total of 109 people were injured. He is due to stand trial at Liverpool Crown Court on November 24 with the hearing estimated to last four weeks, the BBC has reported. Doyle appeared in court today via video link from prison for a case management hearing. The former royal marine spoke only to confirm his name and that he could hear what was being said. He has not yet entered a plea for any of the charges. During a previous hearing at Liverpool Magistrates Court, Doyle shook his head as the seven charges were read out. Judge Healey said the investigation was in the 'very early stages,' adding: 'There is a real prospect of further charges and extensive inquiries need to be concluded. 'I am satisfied this is a truly exceptional case. It shocked and outraged the people of Liverpool and beyond.' Around 50 people were taken to hospital following the incident on the evening of May 26. Distressing footage posted online shows supporters banging on the car's windows before it accelerated and hit fans at speed, causing several to be catapulted off the bonnet. Police quickly ruled out terrorism as a motive and went public with some details of the suspect. Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson previously said: 'This is a complex and constantly evolving investigation and we are still working through and assessing those reporting being injured and our enquiries remain ongoing. 'I would continue to appeal for anyone who has information and is yet to come forward to please get in touch as a matter of urgency.' She added: 'As a person has now been charged in connection with this incident, I would like to remind people not to speculate or share information or footage which could in any way jeopardise the case. 'We understand that emotions are still running high, and people are seeking answers, but it is vital that we allow the matter to go through the judicial process.'

Singer Chris Brown pleads not guilty to 2 further charges over London nightclub assault case
Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown on Friday pleaded not guilty to two further charges related to the serious beating of a music producer with a bottle in a London nightclub in 2023. Brown, 36, denied the more serious charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm at a hearing last month. The singer, wearing a light brown suit, pleaded not guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm to Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub in the swanky London neighborhood of Mayfair in Feb. 2023. He also denied having an offensive weapon — a bottle — in a public place during the short hearing at Southwark Crown Court. Around 20 fans sat in the public gallery behind the dock for Friday's hearing, with several gasping as the singer walked into the courtroom.

Man charged after serious assault in Claverham
A man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after a serious Harrison, 37, of no fixed address, has also been charged with being in possession of a bladed article after another man sustained potentially life-changing victim remains in hospital in a stable condition following the incident on High Street, in Claverham, Somerset, at about 16:40 BST on Thursday, Avon and Somerset Police force also confirmed that a 25-year-old man has been released on police bail and enquiries are ongoing.

Reveller took huge bite out of man's ear in random Pink nightclub attack
Reveller Thomas Cotterill bit off half of a man's ear in an unprovoked attack on a night out in Hanley. The 30-year-old was drinking in Pink nightclub, in Stafford Street, when he 'randomly' sunk his teeth into his victim's ear. The assault was captured on CCTV at 4am on March 31 last year. Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the victim required surgery to try to repair the injury, although he was only left with half an ear. In a victim impact statement, the victim detailed how he's now riddled with anxiety, affecting his relationship with his children, friends and family members. He had surgery and received a number of stitches to his ear and skin grafts.' Cotterill, of Victory Crescent, Cheadle, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm. Catherine O'Reilly, mitigating, said: 'The defendant is at a loss of what happened that night, he cannot put forward any explanation. "He was under the influence of alcohol and he has been transparent about that. Without analysing his behaviour which he accepts is shocking, he cannot put forward an explanation. "His behaviour worsens when in alcohol and believes this could be the reason for his manner, but that is speculation. He has a strong desire to make amends and has self referred himself to anger management. 'He rarely drinks or socialises and has made significant changes to his life to make sure he's not in a position where he might act like this again. He is incredibly highly thought of by a number of people.' Cotterill was sentenced to three years imprisonment. Judge Graeme Smith told him: 'You know why you are standing where you are today. At 4am on March 31 2024 an incident occurred which seems to have had no obvious provocation, which resulted in you biting off half of the victim's ear. Witnesses say the attack came from nowhere. 'We are at a loss of why this happened, firstly because you were intoxicated by alcohol and secondly, you were hypervigilant and seem to have forgotten what happened. This has had a physical and mental effect on the victim which we have heard in his personal impact statement.'
