Linkin Park Charts A Historic No. 1 Single

Linkin Park's 'Up From the Bottom' hits No. 1 on the Alternative Airplay chart, giving the band a ... More record-breaking 14 leaders, beating both Green Day or Cage the Elephant. MONTERREY, MEXICO - FEBRUARY 5: performs during a concert as part of the 'From Zero World Tour' at Estadio Banorte on February 5, 2025 in Monterrey, Mexico. (Photo by Medios) After months of promoting From Zero with a handful of huge, hard rock hits, Linkin Park began teasing a deluxe edition of the effort — and with it, new music. The first of two focus tracks from the expanded project, 'Up From the Bottom,' has been steadily climbing Billboard's radio rankings for several weeks now. This frame, it jumps to the top spot on two tallies it had yet to conquer. As it does, the celebrated group breaks out of a tie and stands alone with a historic number of champions on one of the most competitive airplay rankings in the United States. 'Up From the Bottom' climbs from No. 3 to No. 1 on the Alternative Airplay chart this week. Linkin Park's latest cut replaces 'God Needs the Devil' by Jonah Kagen, which spent just one turn at the summit. The From Zero (Deluxe Edition) single manages to lead the list of tracks with the largest number of audience impressions across alternative radio stations in the U.S. in its eighth frame, which is a remarkably quick ascent. Linkin Park collects its fourteenth No. 1 on the Alternative Airplay chart as 'Up From the Bottom' rises to the top. As the band adds to its growing list of leaders, it breaks its tie with both Cage the Elephant and Green Day. Previously, all three acts had been steady with 13 rulers. Now, this all-time list has shifted. Only one group beats Linkin Park in terms of the most No. 1s ever on the Alternative Airplay chart. Red Hot Chili Peppers remain just one winner ahead of the hard rockers — at least for the time being. While several singles taken from the From Zero album have proved to be huge commercial wins, only one other track taken from the set has reached No. 1 on the Alternative Airplay chart. 'The Emptiness Machine' debuted in September 2024 and, just a few weeks later, rose to No. 1. It would go on to spend five weeks running the show. Follow-up cut 'Heavy Is the Crown' peaked at No. 6, inside the top 10, where the group has now collected 22 successes. In addition to claiming the second-most No. 1s of all time, Linkin Park has also scored multiple long-running rulers. 'What I've Done' stands as the band's longest-running champion, with 15 weeks on top. Both 'Numb' and 'New Divide' held on for an even dozen frames.

Metallica's Self-Titled Album Rises Thanks To A Huge Sales Bump

By the time Metallica released its self-titled fifth album in 1991, the band had already become global superstars, and were regarded by some as gods within the hard rock space. That project, however, took the rockers to new heights, and it changed the trajectory of the outfit's career and turned the musicians into legends. They remain in that echelon to this day, thanks largely to the ongoing success of Metallica. The perennial chart favorite continues to rise in the United States as consumption of the project grows, and it even manages to bounce back onto several rankings simultaneously this time around. Metallica returns to two Billboard rankings this frame, driven by a 37% increase in pure purchases. That type of movement is unusual for a decades-old effort, but it's the kind of performance the hard rockers can manage with some regularity. The title reenters the Top Album Sales chart at No. 33. It also reappears on the Top Rock Albums list at No. 23. Luminate reports that in the past tracking period, the self-titled effort sold 2,700 copies in the U.S. — up from just under 2,000 in the previous span. All those purchases, along with continued streaming activity, push Metallica up on three other Billboard rankings. The set gains ground on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums lists, jumping to Nos. 28 and 8, respectively. It even manages to reenter the top 10 on the latter tally. Total consumption of the collection rose by more than 16%, thanks largely to those thousands of pure purchases. That growing sum proved enough to help Metallica rocket up the Billboard 200. Last week, it sat at No. 169, and now it bolts to No. 132. Metallica is easily the band's most successful album in the U.S. — and that's not only true of this week. The 16-times platinum bestseller easily outpaces every other collection the rockers have released. But it's not the only title from the group to appear on a Billboard list this frame. Master of Puppets is still going strong on the Top Album Sales chart. While Metallica climbs, Master of Puppets dips slightly, falling from No. 41 to No. 45 thanks to 2,300 copies purchased.

All-female Aussie rock band stuns, while Victorian gravedigger reveals wild career change

A Melbourne-based all-female band are bringing back leather jackets and spandex as they put Aussie hard rock back on the radar. Citing influencers like The Runaways, Motorhead and even Black Sabbath, Hot Machine are taking their explosive brand of rock to a global audience, having toured Japan late last year. Comprised of Sammy O'Keefe (vocals), Sarsha Marsden (guitar), Jess Turner 'JT' (guitar), Brittany Britten (bass), and Jess Maio (drums), the band formed in 2023 and has created a buzz in Melbourne due to their high-octane live shows. caught a glimpse of them at a special event for Fender guitars, Mod Shop: Modified in Melbourne, a one-night-only VIP showcase event at the SA1NT facility in Fitzroy, a warehouse which is normally a motorcycle repair shop, as well as a clothing retailer and even a gym. It's the perfect spot for a leather-clad rock band to play and Hot Machine didn't disappoint. Speaking to before the show they spoke of their highlights as a band so far, including the release of their 2024 EP titled Leather and Steel and their tour in Japan. 'In Japan, they love Aussie rock and they love females,' said Turner. 'They go nuts over there.' 'They really support girls over there too,' said Marsden. They said that, as an all-girl outfit, things can be tough. 'It's been tough, and good. It goes both ways I guess,' said Maio. 'It's a male-dominated scene normally but we've also felt really supported. 'Not a lot of female acts are doing this type of sound in Melbourne so people are getting behind which is cool. But, it is hard. It's a bit of a boys' club out there.' Not to be deterred they are determined to bring their 'good time party rock'n' roll' vibes to the masses. Aussie gravedigger's incredible career change Hot Machine weren't the only cool thing happening at the event in Melbourne last week. The evening featured a Modified Live exhibit featuring on-site guitar works with famed industry techs Michael Harron (Harron Custom Guitars) and Warwicke Newman (Tone Revival Engineering). caught up with Mr Harron who, ostensibly, has a very cool job setting up and customising guitars for major bands so they are perfect to play. He said it all started when he was 16 and took his guitar to a workshop to be modified. 'They overcharged me for a bunch of stuff I didn't ask for. Classic,' he said. 'And from then on, I vowed never to let anyone touch my guitar. 'I was a gravedigger at the time, so I was burying people during the day and then coming home to work on guitars at night. 'It came to the point where I could keep going with the grave digging and making money, but it was making me miserable, or I could pursue my passion. So I quit and never looked back.' Fifteen years later he is still living that passion and has made a name for himself by taking on crazy structural modifications and paint jobs for guitars that people used to turn their noses up at. He also has a masterclass in guitar mods that he takes on the road around Australia. A career-defining moment for him was the moment his favourite band Parkway Drive sent him 16 guitars to repair before recording a new album. 'I blacked out the next two weeks and managed to get everything done,' he said. 'I don't often look back on things that I've done. I try to keep my head forward, but that was a big one for me.'
