Brazilian business delegation visits Jordan to explore investment prospects

Ammon News - A Brazilian business delegation starts a visit to Jordan Sunday for talks with official and private entities to explore investment opportunities in the Kingdom across various economic sectors. The five-day visit is organized by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and the Jordanian Embassy in Sao Paulo. The delegation is headed by the Chamber's President, William Adib Dib Jr., and comprises business owners and executives from various economic sectors, as well as representatives from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the Investment Promotion Agency of the State of Sao Paulo. The visit includes a Jordanian-Brazilian business forum, bilateral meetings between companies, and meetings at the Ministries of Agriculture, Industry, Trade and Supply, and Investment, as well as the Customs Department, in addition to tours to promote tourist attractions. The visit is a key step in developing economic relations with Brazil and it opens new horizons for increasing trade exchange between the two countries, commented Jordan Chamber of Commerce President, Senator Khalil Haj Tawfiq. It will allow the delegation to explore investment opportunities and the business environment, and build strategic partnerships, he said, adding that the delegation's choice showed a special investor interest in the Kingdom. He pointed out that Brazil is one of the key economies in South America with strong and advanced industries, particularly in the food sector, which will help boost trade ties with Jordanian firms. The volume of trade between Jordan and Brazil was at JD511 million dinars last year, of which JD60 million in Jordanian exports, almost entirely chemicals and related products, followed by clothing and textiles, dates and other food items. Starmer told he should be ‘stabbed and shot' in threatening emails

Sir Keir Starmer was told he should be 'stabbed and shot to death' in a series of threatening emails, a court heard. Mark Tew, 63, is charged with sending the offensive material to the Prime Minister, a criminal barrister and former Conservative ministers, including Dame Priti Patel. The emails, which were sent between January and November 2021, were not read by the MPs themselves but were intercepted by their staff who subsequently notified the police, Southwark Crown Court heard. In one email allegedly sent to the then leader of the opposition, Mr Tew wrote 'You should be beaten up Starmer, stabbed to death, shot to dead. You gutless yellow bastard Starmer. Tell the truth you miserable uneducated tosser', the court heard. In another sent on March 11, Mr Tew was said to have written: 'Starmer, I've heard a lot of journalists are out to get you. 'To beat you up. To kick your f---ing head in. You gutless dirty bastard. You pathetic wimp. You f---ing coward Starmer. I hope they get you and bash the living daylights out of you.' Paul Jarvis, KC, prosecuting, said: 'The prosecution's case is that Mr Tew was a prolific emailer who would often send emails to politicians and, later, barristers to raise issues and complaints he had with them and others. 'The tone of those emails was frequently rude and discourteous but politicians in particular are expected to be thick-skinned and so while those emails were unpleasant, they were not we would suggest criminal. 'The eight emails that this case is concerned with were different. Their content was more than just rude and discourteous, but contained either a grossly offensive message or indeed threats or both.' The first of Mr Tew's messages was sent in January 2021 to Ms Patel, who was then the home secretary. He sent an email with an image of a man attached in which he wrote: 'Patel, you thick Ugandan b-----, was this man in the IRA? He says he was in the IRA. Was he?', the court heard. Ms Patel's staff reported the email to the police, and Mr Tew was arrested for sending a malicious communication. He told the police he was autistic and suffered from several medical conditions for which he was receiving medication, the court heard. When the police seized his phone, they found the emails that had been sent to Sir Keir, as well as Rishi Sunak, the then chancellor, and Ben Wallace, the former defence secretary. Mr Tew, of Camden, North London denies six counts of sending an electronic communication with intent to cause stress or anxiety, and two counts of sending an indecent or grossly offensive electronic communication with intent to cause stress or anxiety. The Hong Kong Jockey Club unveils JC Project MuSE to foster holistic growth in underprivileged primary students through music and sports

[The content of this article has been produced by our advertising partner.] Advertisement Extracurricular activities offer children opportunities to explore personal interests and broaden their horizons. Yet for families with limited financial means, these pursuits can be out of reach. To address this issue, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has initiated and funded JC Project MuSE, with an approved donation exceeding HK$400 million. The programme delivers free, high-quality and tailored music and sports education to primary school students in underprivileged areas of Hong Kong. JC Project MuSE is a six-year school-based initiative inspired by the globally acclaimed El Sistema model and aims to foster children's interest in the arts and sports from an early age. The programme ensures equal access to growth and learning opportunities regardless of socio-economic status and is designed to promote the participating children's holistic development. To celebrate the programme's inauguration and commemorate the Club's 140th anniversary, the Project MuSE Concert took place on April 17 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The event united students from JC Project MuSE with musical talent nurtured through other projects supported by the Club. HKSAR Government Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-ki (back row, centre), Club Chairman Michael Lee (back row, 7th left) and other guests posed for a photo with mentors and mentees from the Strive and Rise Programme. Advertisement The launch ceremony was officiated by HKSAR Government Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-ki, Club Chairman Michael Lee and JC Project MuSE Advisory Committee Convenor Jat Sew-tong. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lee emphasised that sports & culture is one of the priority funding areas of the Club's Charities Trust. By offering a diverse range of music and sports education and performance opportunities, JC Project MuSE seeks to empower primary school students in underprivileged communities, enhancing their confidence and sense of self-worth, while nurturing their holistic development.
