Kentucky Oaks moves to primetime TV for the first time in 2026
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky Oaks is shifting to primetime for the 152nd edition of the race for 3-year-old fillies. It will be run at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and streaming on Peacock on May 1, 2026, Churchill Downs and NBC Sports announced Thursday. The $1.5 million race that is traditionally held the day before the Kentucky Derby has had a post time shortly before 6 p.m. ET for years. Next year will be the first time it's been run as late as 8 p.m., which puts it in twilight in the Eastern Time Zone. 'By moving the Kentucky Oaks to primetime, we're giving one of horse racing's most treasured traditions the national stage it deserves,' said Bill Carstanjen, CEO of Churchill Downs. 'This decision is rooted in our commitment to growing the sport, reaching new audiences and creating unforgettable experiences for our fans.' The 152nd Kentucky Derby will air May 2 on NBC and streaming on Peacock. The race typically goes off shortly after 7 p.m. ET. This year's Derby, won by Sovereignty, was the most watched edition since 1989. The audience averaged an NBC record of 17.7 million, peaking at 21.8 million from 7-7:15 p.m. ET during the race. Last year, NBC Sports and Churchill Downs extended their deal to air the Derby through 2032, making the network the longest running home of the race. It first aired on NBC in 2001. ___ AP horse racing:

Lismore best bets, inside mail for Friday, July 25, 2025
Racenet and The Daily Telegraph form analyst Shayne O'Cass provides his best bets, value selection and race-by-race analysis for Lismore on Friday. The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. BEST BET Race 3 No. 2: TORQUE TI AMO Castlevecchio filly who rattled home first-up in a Super Maiden. Extra trip suits. Lightly-raced mare who will win her share of races. Draw the only issue. VALUE Peter Robl trained gelding who is heading in the right direction QUADDIE Race 5: 1, 3, 4, 6 Race 6: 1, 4, 7 Race 7: 1, 2, 3, 4 Race 8: 1, 3, 5, 15 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Superstar apprentice JETT NEWMAN can rack up some points in the TAB Jockeys Challenge (before scratchings). INSIDE MAIL - LISMORE MISS UCHITEL (2) was born and raced at Gilgai Farm in Victoria. In fact. she has the same 'brand' as another Gilgai graduate in Black Caviar. To add to her value, Miss Uchitel is a daughter of the Tasmanian stakes-winner, Spinning Jenny. Ultra-consistent mare who shapes well here again. Stablemate OUR SILVER LININGS (1) really ate into the margin first-up at the Gold Coast. Has drawn well and gets 2kg off for superstar apprentice, Jett Newman. A NOTION (5) has done enough to be respected and considered. Bet: Miss Uchitel to win â– â– â– â– â– RACE 2: XXXX Gold Mdn Plate BARRON (1) is a cleverly-named son of a mare called White House Lady. Granted, the equine Barron hasn't been able to trump his rivals in 33 starts no less but he has placed 13 times and occasionally in rather good maiden company. He'll get there sooner rather than later. HAYLEY'S ROCKET (6) had trialled well behind a good horse then came out and ran a slashing debut behind a handful of good horses in that 1106m Super Maiden on the South Grafton Cup undercard. Go well. Bet: Barron each-way, quinella 1, 6 â– â– â– â– â– TORQUE TI AMO (2) is a Matthew Dunn-trained filly by Castelvecchio which goes a long way to accounting for why she seems to have such a powerful finishing burst. We saw that in plain view when she resumed at Grafton in the Super Maiden where she was getting ever closer to the winner, namely her handy stablemate, Gaylord. SASKATOON BERRY (12) has gone 29 starts without a win but she has placed nine times. She deserves one but has run into a potentially above average horse. Bet: Torque Ti Amo to win, exacta 2 to beat 12 â– â– â– â– â– RACE 4: Lismore Floor Coverings Mdn Plate NATIONAL GOAL (7) is trained by Peter Robl who will be in Darwin in 11 days' time striving for back-to-back Cups with last year's winner, Hadoukan. National Goal was in the market but never in the race first-up, taken back from a wide gate. Has trialled well since and cops a much more favourable gate today. LET'S DO IT AGAIN (4) hasn't fared as well in the barrier stakes but gets Ben Looker to assist and is a horse on an upward trajectory. BETTER BELIEVE IT (9), ANDROSS (1) and KEMAL (3) have claims. Bet: National Goal each-way â– â– â– â– â– WRITTEN FAME (1) is part of the Darby Bloodstock string. They only paid $10,000 for him at the HTBA Yearling Sale and this Matthew Dunn-trained gelding has won $76,025 in 14 starts with the promise of more to come. Written Fame has the capacity to go on all surfaces and he is most effective circa this trip. Nice alley, has a 2kg claim too. WESTERLY (6) hasn't been seen since winning at Coffs Harbour on December 14 hence the market is the guide. RYLOV (3) is in the mix and by the way, look at his damline; Rhema, Mannington, Bint Marscay, Eau D'Etoile. Bet: Written Fame to win â– â– â– â– â– GOT THE SMARTS (4) was bred at Gooree and hails from one of their most prized families of which they have had a few. Long story short, she is by Gooree's own Smart Missile, is also a half-sister to Tactical Advantage and from the same family as the iron horse, Desert War. Got The Smarts is a tidy little resume; super reliable and good enough to win better races. That said, MOFEED (1) is a genuine obstacle. He too has done by far more good than bad in his nine starts. DIZZY DEE (7) and NO RAGRETS (5) are players. Bet: Got The Smarts to win â– â– â– â– â– SO YOU CAN TORQUE (3) was a $20,000 bargain at the 2022 HTBA Yearling Sale. What a pedigree. He is by 10-time Group 1 winner So You Think out of a half-sister to the Melbourne Cup winner, Vow And Declare. It stands to reason then that this Matthew Dunn-trained racehorse is only going to get better as time goes by and he's already done some good things. GAVIN (2) is a chance (if he comes). CHAMPONNET (1), another Dunn runner, has drawn wide but the form reads well. Ditto, in fact double that, for YOUCOMPLETEME (4). Bet: So You Can Torque to win â– â– â– â– â– INSINUATE (2) was a $510,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale buy. Why? Well for starters, she is by the four-time Champion Sire Snitzel then there is the fact that her dam won the Wellington Boot. Not just any Boot winner, Sin Sin Sin, was her name and she is now known as the mother of Yes Yes Yes. Matthew Dunn has got this filly flying and box 2 with Jett Newman only seals the deal. HOTZINO (5) is a chance (if he comes). Outside of him, maybe the other Dunn runners; CALVARY (4) and LUCKY NEKO (9) are the 'threats' to Insinuate. Bet: Insinuate to win BEST BET Race 3 No. 2: Torque Ti Amo Castlevecchio filly who rattled home first-up in a Super Maiden. Extra trip suits. NEXT BEST Race 6 No. 4: Got The Smarts Lightly-raced mare who will win her share of races. Draw the only issue. VALUE Race 4 No. 7: National Goal Peter Robl trained gelding who is heading in the right direction QUADDIE Race 5: 1,3,4,6 Race 6: 1,4,7 Race 7: 1,2,3,4 Race 8: 1,3,5,15 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Super star apprentice Jett Newman can rack up some points in the TAB Jockeys Challenge (before scratchings) (for online only) LAY

Trainer Peter Snowden's stable of young talent is ready to make waves this spring
The building blocks for Peter Snowden's ominous spring offensive were on full display at a nondescript winter meeting at Canterbury Park just this week. It was Wednesday afternoon when Snowden was on course to watch one of his brightest young stars chase a winning hat-trick to start her career. The filly in question was Amreekiyah. She didn't disappoint. The daughter of Justify pulled off the seemingly unimaginable, coming from a seemingly impossible position on a leaders dominated track to remain unbeaten in stunning fashion. 'You don't often see horses do that,' Snowden said. 'She had was carrying 61kg and was spotting the leader five lengths, admittedly it did stop the last 50m but when she set out after it, you just saw her claw back ground and made it look easy. 'It makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck a little bit to see a horse win like that because not many can do that.' Amreekiyah, destined for stakes company, is just the latest example of Snowden's growing spring team. The Randwick trainer is nearing the end of his first season back as a solo conditioner after his 10-year partnership with son Paul came to a close last June. In recent times he made the decision to downsize his stable to focus on quality and the decision looks set to pay significant dividends. Snowden's stable is teeming with lightly-raced and young talent – think Beadman, Raging Force, Memo, Media World and Tuileries. 'A lot of horses are only lightly-raced, only trialled and had one run and gone out so we've left them to mature a bit and they've done that,' Snowden said. Outstanding return and 3 from 3 now for this promising Justify filly. Amreekiyah (3f Justify (USA) x Marianne) for @SnowdenRacing1 1st-up, 1st city run. Half-sister to G2 winner Yaletown. Defied the pattern of the day, a mighty effort. @EmiratesPark @wj_bloodstock @CoolmoreAus … â€' Breednet (@BreednetNews) July 23, 2025 • 'Best horse we've had for a while': Lees chasing Glorious victory 'They have all come back in really good order and it is probably the best team I've had in a while. 'On paper, we've certainly got some nice horses in the yard at the moment.' Raging Force and Beadman are two of the most exciting two-year-olds in Australia and look perfectly poised to make their mark when their three-year-old season begins. Raging Force was one of the finds of Sydney's winter after putting together three straight dominant victories at Muswellbrook, Randwick Kensington and Rosehill Gardens. It was a similarly memorable campaign for Beadman with the smart son of Snitzel heading for a break after an astonishing eight-and-a-quarter length romp in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast on May 10. 'Raging Force and Beadman certainly laid the platform for doing something special next time in so hopefully that's the case,' Snowden said. 'They are both in work now. Beadman looks fantastic and has done particularly well. 'It was Henry (Field's) call (to spell him after the Ken Russell) but looking at him now, I am glad we stopped when we did with him because he looks amazing. 'I think we will look towards the Coolmore with him as his main goal if he is good enough. We won't rush him early and pick the right races with him.' Placings 1. Beadman 2. Daylight What an incredible win from Beadman! 🤯 @SnowdenRacing1 @mcacajamez â€' 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) May 10, 2025 • Snowden confirmed Raging Force is set to resume on August 16 with a crack at the Listed Rosebud (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens a possibility first-up from a freshen. Another of his promising youngsters will headline his home track assault on the weekend. Nazwah races in the same green and white Emirates Park silks as her unbeaten stablemate Amreekiyah and the filly has a similarly bright future. A $2.10 favourite in the opening event at Royal Randwick on Saturday, Nazwah made a memorable first impression with a stunning debut success at Gosford last month. The performance even caught Snowden by surprise. 'We went up thinking she would be a chance but I was a bit surprised by how well she won,' he said. 'I wanted to try and win a maiden quick with her, being a very well-bred filly, the quicker you get a win on the board it's one less target to get. 'She did surprised me with how well she won. She won with a good bit of authority. 'There is a fair bit of class there on Saturday but a good gate helps a lot and she has done well since so she is a chance. 'I am hoping she can improve again on Saturday.' With the spring carnival looming, Snowden will assess after Saturday's Keeneland September Yearling Sale 2YO Open (1100m) if Nazwah can measure up in better races in weeks to come. Wow, look at Nazwah go! 😮 An impressive win to the @SnowdenRacing1 - trained filly at @gosford_races with @tomo_sherry in the saddle! ðŸ'¨ @EmiratesPark â€' SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) July 10, 2025 • Shayne O'Cass's tips, analysis for Royal Randwick on Saturday 'We will sum it up after the race and see how she goes rather than get too far ahead of ourselves,' Snowden said. 'She is a nice filly going forward.' Cassiel ($4.20 favourite) will give Snowden a great chance of claiming a winning double when the gelding attempts to overcome a wide draw in the ATC Thank You Owners Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m). Snowden expects the son of Harry Angel, a winner of two of his three starts this preparation, to run well again if the weather plays it's part. 'He has done well and is holding his form but the only thing that might worry him is a bit of rain around on the day,' he said. 'It might be a bit of problem but we will see what happens. 'I know not worried about the draw, I know it look bad but the sort of horse he is, at least it gives him time to find his feet at his own rate rather than being pushed hard from inside gates. 'I am not too perturbed about the gate for him but the track on the day might be a bit of a concern.' Snowden is hopeful Braveheart ($18) gets the opportunity to take his place in the same field but the emergency will need three scratchings. IT'S TASHI'S TIARAðŸ'' Tashi gives Tom Sherry his first Group 1! What a story for the Irishman 🇮🇰 @tomo_sherry @SnowdenRacing1 â€' 7HorseRacing ðŸŽ (@7horseracing) June 28, 2025 • Randwick Turf Talk: Shayno's smoking hot $15 tip Jockey Tom Sherry, fresh from a winning hat-trick last Saturday at Rosehill Gardens, will continue his strong recent run alongside Snowden with the rides on Nazwah and Cassiel. â– â– â– â– â– Tashi, the brilliant winner of this year's Group 1 Tatt's Tiara, is set to head to the breeding barn this year. Trainer Peter Snowden confirmed the consistent mare had likely run her last race after ending her career on a high note with a maiden major triumph at Eagle Farm last month. 'She is going to go to stud I think,' Snowden said. 'She is five going on six and when you've won a Group 1, you don't need to do anymore. 'I am pretty sure (her owners) the Altomontes want to give her a crack at stud. 'She did an amazing job so it will be disappointing she is not racing but if she didn't go in foal, maybe she could race towards the end of the year, if not it's job done for her.' Tashi brought in more than $1 million during her terrific career with a record of five wins and 14 placings in 26 starts. Her victory in the Tatt's Tiara was her maiden stakes breakthrough after a run of seven placings in black type races. The triumph will live long in the memory of jockey Tom Sherry as it delivered the Irishman his maiden Group 1 success.

Boca Queen 'Impressed' Kevin Attard In First Start, Now Tries Stakes Company originally appeared on Paulick Report. Repole Stable's Boca Queen, who turned heads after a stellar debut, steps up to the stakes ranks when she takes on eight rivals in Saturday's Grade 3 $150,000 Ontario Colleen at by Flaxman Stables Ireland Ltd., the dark bay filly heads into the one-mile race over the E.P. Taylor turf for 3-year-old fillies off an authoritative 3 ¼-length win at seven furlongs over the E.P. Taylor on July off as the 2-1 choice in the field of 11, Boca Queen hopped slightly at the start, but regrouped and settled mid-pack along the backstretch before ranging up three-wide at the three-eighths mark. Shifted out into the seven path at the quarter pole, she sped away from her rivals en route to the impressive daughter of Kingman out of the Big Bad Bob mare Bocca Baciata covered the distance in 1:20.32 over firm ground. 'Very impressed by that first start,' said champion trainer Kevin Attard. 'She had a little hop at the break, but she recovered quickly – I thought that was a good sign. She found her stride and looked comfortable the rest of the way. We were hoping she would run to her works, and she showed up in a big way. Obviously, you don't know how things will go first time out, but she showed a lot of maturity and class that day.'The dark bay traveled four furlongs in :48.20 over the Woodbine main track on July 19 ahead of the Ontario Colleen.'She came out of it [first start] well and had a nice work on Saturday,' said Attard. 'So, the hope is she can build off that first start and come back with a big effort this time. She definitely inspires confidence. Excited to see what the future holds for her.' Literate, a 5-year-old daughter of Oscar Performance out of the Henrythenavigator mare Infanta Branca, will contest her third consecutive graded stakes bay mare, owned by C2 Racing Stable LLC, was sixth in the Fasig-Tipton La Troienne Stakes (G1) on May 2 at Churchill Downs. She arrives at the Trillium off a fourth in the Belle Mahone (G3) at Woodbine on May 31.'She is doing very, very well,' said Drexler, of Literate, who was bred in Kentucky by Don Alberto Corporation. 'She has had the opportunity to run on different surfaces, and we have tried a few different things, but at the end of the day, this is what she is best at – two turns on the synthetic.'I really liked her in the race at Churchill, but she missed the break, and it kind of got messed up from there. I think this is the best type of race for her. Hopefully, she gets the job done here. I think she is a very, very talented horse.' Literate launched her career with a quarter of races at Gulfstream. She was second in her debut on Dec. 4, 2022, and broke her maiden in her fifth start, a two-length score at 1 1/16 miles over the Woodbine main track on June 22, 2024, doubling up one month later, also at the Toronto oval.'She is a cool horse to be around,' said Drexler. 'She is not full of personality, but she can be a little high-strung at times. She is a hard trier, and she has a big, beautiful stride on her. Distance never seems to be an issue with her.'She has enough quality, so we hope we can get her a stakes win that we feel she deserves.'Drexler worked Literate, 4-3-1 from 14 starts ($196,126), three times in the lead up to the Trillium, including a five-furlong breeze in 1:01.00 over the Woodbine main track on July 19. 'I really like the way she is coming into this,' said the multiple graded stakes-winning conditioner. 'I have always liked her. The key is to have her come over to the paddock and be chill, which she did last time. She can get wound up at times, but if you can get her settled enough, she usually runs a really good race. And she is great right now.'Literate was a $27,000 purchase at the 2021 Keeneland Association September Yearling Hayes is the groom. A veteran of 29 starts (11-1-4, $309,671), 7-year-old Veery will contest her first stakes race on chestnut daughter of Giant Gizmo out of the Bertrando mare Roust 'Em Bertie has been at the top of her game over her past five starts, fashioning three wins and a pair of thirds.'She has been very impressive and deserves to be here,' said Drexler. 'She is also doing great coming into this race.'Veery, bred in Ontario by Dr. Rolph Davis, heads into the Trillium off a smart four-length score at 1 1/16 miles over the Woodbine main track on June veteran mare turned a three-length advantage at the stretch call into a 4-length win in 1:43.14. 'We raced her for $15,000 last year,' noted Drexler. 'It wasn't until we started stretching her out that it really brought the best out in her. She is just an incredible front-end horse. Once she gets the lead, she will go a long way. That last race – she was never in doubt. She was always the boss, and she kept going.'It's not to say she can't win going shorter, but she seems to be at her best when she is the controlling speed, especially on the synthetic. She just runs so well on the front end.'Veery launched her career with a fifth over six furlongs on the Woodbine main track on Oct. 1, breakthrough came in her fourth race, a 1 ¼-length triumph at 5 ½ furlongs on the Toronto oval main track. Drexler claimed the horse for $10,000 on behalf of David Rowbotham, Rodney Carpenter, and Tony Boogmans, ahead of a Veery win on Dec. 8, 2022.'She is a real Cinderella horse,' said Drexler. 'It took some time to get her to where we wanted her to be – and there have been some ups and downs along the way, but she is just a fighter.'Anthony Bend is the groom.
