UP Police roll out behavioural training for 60,244 new recruits
Lucknow: In a significant step towards police reform, director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Monday inaugurated a five-day 'behavioural training programme' at the police training directorate in Lucknow. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The initiative is being organised in collaboration with the Capacity Building Commission (CBC), Govt of India, with Illumine as the knowledge partner. The training is part of the Govt of India's ambitious 'Mission Karmayogi', which aims to bring attitudinal transformation in civil services by enhancing soft skills, communication abilities, and accountability in public servants. In UP, the programme will be implemented across all 112 police training centres, ultimately covering over 60,244 newly recruited constables, making it one of the largest behavioural training exercises for any police force in the country. Krishna said, "This is not just a training workshop; it is the foundation of a new kind of policing culture in Uttar Pradesh." He stressed that induction training plays a critical role in shaping the career-long conduct of police personnel and that soft skills training must go hand in hand with operational capabilities. As announced by DGP (Training) Tilottama Verma, two behavioural courses from the iGOT (Integrated Government Online Training) portal will now be compulsory for all constable trainers will then mentor institute-level faculty, who in turn will conduct three-day behavioural training modules for new constables, ensuring a scalable and structured transmission of soft skills. The DGP emphasised the creation of uniform audio-visual content, communication tools, and training manuals that will be deployed across all 112 training centres. "When 60,244 recruits receive the same quality of behavioural input, we begin building a more cohesive and civil service culture," he added. ADG PTS Unnao Navneet Sikera shared that 32 physical training instructors (PTIs) have been specially trained as health coaches, who will provide holistic support to recruits. The keynote address was delivered by R Balasubramaniam, member of CBC. Author, Dr Balasubramaniam emphasised that emotional intelligence, ethical clarity, and people skills are just as important as legal and procedural knowledge in the police service.
