iPhone 19 may finally bring under-display selfie camera
Apple might finally be on track to deliver a true all-screen iPhone — and it could happen as early as the iPhone 19. According to a report by The Information, Apple is working towards placing both Face ID and the front-facing camera under the display in future iPhones. The tech could debut in the iPhone 18 Pro series next year, while the 2027 iPhone — likely the iPhone 19 — may be the first to feature a completely edge-to-edge screen, marking the 20th anniversary of the ID uses infrared light to scan your face, and placing it behind the screen presents a major challenge. Most display panels aren't very good at letting infrared light pass through, which can impact accuracy. However, Apple seems to be tackling this with a patent it was recently granted, as spotted by Patently Apple. The method involves removing certain subpixels — the tiny red, green, and blue elements that make up a display — to create transparent zones. These gaps allow infrared light to pass through more easily, without affecting visual quality. Apple's design also clears up wiring and touch components in those areas to let the system work rumours suggested that under-display Face ID might arrive with the iPhone 15 or 16, but those predictions didn't pan out. That said, the iPhone 17 might show the first visible change. As per analyst Jeff Pu, at least one iPhone 17 model — possibly the iPhone 17 Pro Max — could feature a smaller Dynamic Island, hinting at internal shifts ahead of the full Under-display selfie cameras aren't new in the Android world. Brands like Samsung have been using them in foldables for the last few years, including on the inner display of Galaxy Z Fold models. But image quality has often been underwhelming, especially for video calls and selfies. Apple's challenge is to overcome that while maintaining its usual high-quality standards, especially now that front cameras are widely used for selfies and video now, we are fast approaching September, when Apple is expected to launch its next-generation iPhone 17 models, including the standard iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Unless you have been living under a rock, the iPhone 17 Air is said to replace the Plus models, and is touted to be the slimmest flagship phone Apple has ever worked on. If the rumours are to be believed, the iPhone 17 Air will be just 5.5mm thick and weigh only 145 grams.

Apple's iPhone 19 in 2027 May Feature Bezel-Free Display and Next-Gen Silicon Battery
Apple is gearing up for what could be one of its most ambitious iPhone launchesever as it prepares to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic smartphonein 2027. According to a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company plans tocommemorate the milestone year with the iPhone 19, which could showcase aradically redesigned form and breakthrough battery technology. The headline change? A fully bezel-free display that wrapsaround all four edges of the phone—top, bottom, left, and right—creating whatmight be Apple's most futuristic-looking device yet. Bezel-Free Design: A Glimpse of Apple's Glass Future In line with long-standing ambitions of former design chiefJony Ive, Apple is reportedly working on a Pro variant of the iPhone 19 thatresembles a seamless slab of glass. This vision, first teased with the launchof the iPhone X in 2017, may finally reach maturity with the iPhone 19 Pro. As per a report by ETNews, Apple is expected to use advanced"four-edge bending" screen technology, unlike current curved displaysthat only taper on two sides. This new approach could deliver a trulyuninterrupted viewing experience with content flowing across all four edges. While the company is simultaneously exploring foldableiPhone prototypes, the bezel-free iPhone 19 Pro seems to be the more immediatepriority. The design also hints at Apple's increasing push for ultra-thindevices, hinted at by the iPhone 17 Air, expected to launch in 2025. The iPhone19 Pro could combine this slim design trend with a highly immersive all-glassdisplay, though it may raise new concerns around durability and repairability. If Apple follows through, this could mark its boldest designshift since the iPhone X, which famously removed the Home button, introducedthe notch, and changed how users interact with the device. Silicon Battery Technology: A Potential Breakthrough Beyond aesthetics, Apple might be planning a significantupgrade under the hood. According to the ETNews report, the iPhone 19 coulddebut a 100 per cent silicon battery, a significant improvement over the currentsilicon-carbon compositions, which contain less than 20 per cent silicon. If successful, the switch to full-silicon batteries coulddramatically increase energy density, paving the way for much longer batterylife or slimmer device profiles without sacrificing performance. For context, the upcoming iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to feature a 3,500mAh battery in a frameunder 6mm thick—a feat that may be further surpassed by the iPhone 19. Such a battery upgrade would likely be enhanced by iOS 21,which is expected to arrive alongside the iPhone 19 in 2027. The software couldbring AI-powered battery management tools, building upon the optimisationsystems introduced in iOS 19, to help maximise the longevity and efficiency ofthe new silicon-based power system. Caution and Expectations However, some industry observers are advising caution. 'Thenotion of a battery comprising 100 per cent silicon does stretch credibilitysomewhat, particularly considering Apple's typically cautious approach toadopting technology,' the report notes. While Apple often perfects existinginnovations rather than rushing to be first, its commitment to refining userexperience and pushing design boundaries means the speculation isn't entirelyfar-fetched. With the iPhone 16 Pro in 2024 and the expected iPhone 17Pro in 2025 being mostly incremental updates, Apple appears to be saving thereal game-changer for its 20-year milestone. If even half of the rumoursmaterialise, the iPhone 19 could set a new benchmark for smartphone design and performance. For now, though, all eyes are on 2027—when Apple could onceagain redefine what a smartphone looks and feels like, just as it did twodecades ago.

iPhone 19 in 2027 to mark 20th anniversary of the phone with bezel-free design, new battery tech
Apple will be celebrating its 20th anniversary of iPhones in 2027, and there is no doubt that the tech giant will take an extra step to make it remarkable. According to Bloomberg's report by Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to express its joy with that year's iPhone -- the iPhone 19. The rumour has it that the upcoming 20th anniversary iPhone 19 may boast a fully bezel-free display that elegantly wraps around all four edges of the device. Let's take a look at what is coming. advertisementiPhone 19 display: Is it curved or flat? Looking ahead to 2027, Apple appears poised for one of its boldest iPhone redesigns yet. According to Mark Gurman, a major overhaul is planned for the Pro model, featuring an "extensive" glass construction intended to fulfil the long-standing vision of former design chief Jony Ive—an iPhone that resembles a seamless slab of glass. This concept was first teased with the launch of the iPhone X and now seems to be taking fuller form in what could be the iPhone 19 Apple is also reportedly working on a foldable iPhone, the spotlight remains firmly on this glass-centric Pro model. It's expected to showcase a completely borderless display that curves elegantly around all four edges—top, bottom, left, and right—thanks to advanced "four-edge bending" screen technology, as reported by ETNews. Unlike existing curved-screen phones that only taper on the sides, this innovation would deliver an uninterrupted visual experience, with content flowing across every edge of the design shift echoes Apple's increasing focus on ultra-slim hardware, a direction hinted at with the upcoming iPhone 17 Air. This thinner design philosophy may well be merged with the sleek, unified glass aesthetic of the iPhone 19 Pro. However, such a bold approach could raise practical concerns around durability and ease of repair—longstanding challenges with highly stylised details beyond the glass design remain under wraps, the 2027 iPhone is shaping up to be Apple's most radical design evolution since the 10th anniversary iPhone X, which ushered in the notch, gesture-based navigation, and the removal of the iconic Home 19 silicon batteryWhile the iPhone 16 Pro, released in 2024, and the forthcoming iPhone 17 Pro expected in 2025 are largely iterative updates—featuring tweaks such as enlarged camera modules—Apple appears to be preparing for a far more radical shift with the iPhone 19 Pro, according to a report from ET of the headline innovations is rumoured to be the introduction of a 100 per cent silicon battery, a significant departure from the current silicon-carbon compositions, which typically contain less than 20 per cent silicon. If realised, this change could dramatically improve energy density, allowing for noticeably longer battery life or a much slimmer device profile without compromising on battery capacity. Given speculation that the iPhone 17 Air may house a 3,500mAh battery within a chassis under 6mm thick, the iPhone 19 series could push the boundaries of slimness even further while simultaneously offering enhanced advancement may also be supported by iOS 21—anticipated in 2027—which is expected to feature enhanced AI-powered battery management, building on the groundwork laid by iOS 19's optimisation it's worth tempering expectations. The notion of a battery comprising 100 per cent silicon does stretch credibility somewhat, particularly considering Apple's typically cautious approach to adopting technology. The company is known for refining and perfecting existing tech rather than being the first to introduce bold, unproven features. So, while the idea is exciting, it remains firmly in the realm of speculation for now—and should be treated accordingly.
