When will Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma play for India next? Look at 2025-26 ODI schedule

In the span of a week, India's modern-day stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have reduced themselves to one-format players in the national set-up after announcing their Test retirements. While Rohit relinquished the Test captaincy alongside his retirement last week, the 36-year-old Kohli made an emotional decision to call it quits from the red-ball format on Monday. While the void left by the two stars could be difficult to replace, Indian cricket fans are staring at the question of when will India's veteran duo team up again for the Men in Blue. Rohit and Kohli had previously retired from the T20I format last year after leading India to the T20 World Cup crown in Barbados over South Africa. Earlier this year, the senior stars played crucial hands in India's Champions Trophy triumph in Dubai. While Kohli finished as India's second-highest run-getter on the back of a century and a match-winning knock against Australia in the semi-final, Rohit lit up the final against New Zealand with his sparkling 76 that also earned him the Player of the Final award. With limited international game time up ahead, the 38-year-old Rohit and Kohli are staring at a heightened challenge to keep themselves charged up to push through to the next 50-over World Cup in late 2027. But before that, both players are looking at a prolonged absence from the rest of the 2025 cricket calender after the IPL wraps up on June 3. Here's a look at India's ODI cricket schedule in 2025-26 where Rohit and Kohli could be seen together again: Bangladesh vs India, August 2025 – 3 ODIs (August 17-23)* Australia vs India, October 2025 – 3 ODIs (October 19-25) India vs South Africa, Nov-Dec 2025 – 3 ODIs (November 30-December 6) India vs New Zealand, January 2026 – 3 ODIs India vs Afghanistan, June 2026 – 3 ODIS India vs West Indies, September 2026 – 3 ODIs New Zealand vs India, Oct-Nov 2026 – 3 ODIs India vs Sri Lanka, December 2026 – 3 ODIs * – Doubtful/unconfirmed

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw Set for MLB Return Against Long-Time Rival

In 2025, the defending-champion Los Angeles Dodgers (27-14) are once again playing high-quality baseball. However, if there's been a gripe with this team in sunny Southern California, it has to be centered around the many injuries to its pitching staff. The Dodgers used the recent offseason to solidify their starting rotation, but shoulder issues with Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow have prevented Los Angeles from coming to full form. Additionally, LA's longest-tenured player — Clayton Kershaw (toe) — has yet to toss a single MLB inning this year. Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw warms Scuteri-Imagn Images Fortunately for supporters of the "Boys in Blue," Kershaw used Mother's Day to produce another solid outing with Triple-A Oklahoma City. "Twos" were wild for the veteran southpaw on Sunday, as he allowed two runs on two hits, posting two strikeouts and two walks over four innings of action. Advertisement What gave particular optimism in Kershaw's most recent start was his ability to field his position. Never mind his age of 37—he made an incredibly athletic play in the third inning, fielding a batted ball to his right before turning and firing a strike to first base to retire the hitter. That certainly bodes well for a pitcher rehabbing a toe injury. Kershaw has managed to string together a few successful starts in-a-row at this point, giving him five total minor-league appearances this season. Considering his momentum in unison with his intended activation date of May 18, it is increasingly likely we see his 2025 MLB debut at Dodger Stadium next Sunday versus the Los Angeles Angels. A staple of SoCal, the "Freeway Series" seems as fitting a time as any for Kershaw to return. Throughout his 17-year career, Kershaw has made 16 prior starts against the Halos, posting a dominant 10-2 record with a stingy 1.99 ERA. Advertisement Simply, Kershaw up-and-throwing is something that puts fear into the heart of the Dodgers' regional rivals. Per FanGraphs, he showcased a 4.51 skill-interactive ERA last year, which was the worst mark of his entire MLB tenure. The Dodgers are idle on Monday before hosting the Athletics on Tuesday night. Projected starters for the series opener are Jeffrey Springs and Landon Knack, while first pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET.

After Kohli and Sharma, who will lead India in Test cricket? Report hints at one name as likely successor—check here

After Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli has also expressed his desire to retire from India Test cricket. The news has left fans disappointed, but following this, a PTI report suggests that Rishabh Pant is set to become the vice-captain for India in Test cricket. Whereas Shubham Gill looks likely to assume the captaincy role ahead of the upcoming five-match Test series in England. Meanwhile, Pant has been one of the most reliable Test batters in overseas conditions, and he steps into the role ahead of Jasprit Bumrah, whose fitness remains a concern. With an average of over 42 centuries in Australia, England, and South Africa, along with seven scores in the 90s, Pant can be considered the finest batsman in the format. Who is the expected captain in Test cricket? According to PTI, a BCCI source noted that if Bumrah is not the captain, then there is no point in offering him the vice-captaincy role. On the other hand, it is also reported that the selection committee considered making Virat Kohli the captain again in England to help ease Shubhman Gill into the leadership role. However, Virat Kohli has not made any official announcement so far regarding his retirement from the longest format yet. It is also believed that it is expected that the BCCI will request him to continue playing in whites, as he is experienced, which could help the team benefit the Men in Blue in England. Test cricket under Virat 🥶 >>> Is KL Rahul in the list of captaincy? The report further noted that a BCCI source privy said it is a fact that the selectors did think about having Virat Kohli as the captain of India for the England series. This would have given Gill some time to grow into the leadership role, but at 25-and-a-half years of age. "Due to Bumrah's fitness issues, Gill looks like the obvious choice for Ajit Agarkar's committee," the report quoted. If we talk about other players, such as KL Rahul, he has not been considered as an option since he is 33 and has been inconsistent with his returns in red-ball cricket.
