Edwin Siu joins 8TV's "Family Singing Show" as a judge
9 Jun - Two months after joking about needing to work more in order to feed his newborn son, it was revealed that Edwin Siu is joining the team of Malaysia's 8TV show, "Family Singing Show 6". The TVB artiste, who made his debut in showbiz after winning a singing competition in 2001, will appear on the show as a judge, bringing sincere encouragement and comments to the participating families, and also injecting more vitality and highlights into the show. Speaking about his judging stint, Edwin said, "Usually when I come to Malaysia, I am the one who sings for everyone. This time it is my turn to sit down and listen to my Malaysian friends singing, because I know that many people here sing very well!" As for what he would emphasise on when it comes to judging, Edwin said, "Of course singing must be good, but tacit understanding is also important. I will pay attention to their cooperation. Whether they can interact naturally and cooperatively on stage are also crucial." He also mentioned that he hopes to be inspired by the performances of parent-child groups in the programme, and have the opportunity to form a father-son duo with his son to perform on stage together in the future. The show has already completed the first round of recording and will officially air on 8TV in early July. (Photo Source: Edwin IG, Oriental Daily)

NEWS OF THE WEEK: Sarah Jessica Parker feeling 'behind' on reading as she prepares to judge Booker Prize
Sarah Jessica Parker doesn't know how she will find the time to read every novel in contention for this year's Booker Prize. The Sex and the City actress hit headlines last month when she revealed she was reading two books per day as part of her role as a judge for the prestigious literary award, which is bestowed upon the best work of fiction published in the U.K. in English each year. Even with her two-books-per-day schedule, Parker is still concerned that she's not going to finish reading all of the required 170 novels before the deadline.

Simon Cowell Turned Down $150,000 for Wild NSFW Offer
Simon Cowell has a long track record of judging singing and talent competition shows and gets paid handsomely to do it, but there's one job offer he had to turn down because it was so inappropriate. The 65-year-old television personality recently shared one of his most memorable fan interactions during the Wednesday, May 7 episode of the How To Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast. During their chat, Cowell recalled an instance where one of his fans approached him at a restaurant and asked if he would be interested in judging him and his wife "having sex." The star told the podcast listeners that he thought the proposition was a joke and asked, 'Are you winding me up?' Cowell went on to detail that the couple offered to pay him $150,000 for his services if he accepted. He also admitted that he had to think about it for a moment before he rejected the offer because it was 'a lot of money.' Earlier in the podcast entry, the record executive also recounted other interactions he has had with fans that he considers 'bizarre,' including a number in which he said, 'People would come up to me and ask me to be rude to them.' The London native also noted that the trend would particularly happen with his fanbase in America. Cowell was a successful record executive before he became a household name in the early 2000s after he became a judge on Pop Idol and later American Idol. He is best known for his blunt and controversial commentary and feedback as a judge on the singing competition television shows. Cowell has also participated in shows including The X Factor UK, Britain's Got Talent, and The X Factor US throughout the years and has been a part of the judging panel of America's Got Talent since he joined in 2016.
