A knife-wielding Portland, Oregon man was arrested Monday after he hid for hours in the rafters of a Target store following a confrontation with a security guard, police said. Officers responded around 10:30 a.m. to reports of a disturbance involving a weapon at the Target in the 9800 block of Southeast Washington Street, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Witnesses initially told police that a suspect armed with a knife and a hatchet threatened a security guard before fleeing deeper into the store. They eventually spotted the man armed with a knife and perched on a second-story shelving unit used to store excess inventory in the back of the retailer. Officers negotiated with the suspect for several hours. He eventually dropped the knife and surrendered around 4 p.m., police said. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of assault, attempted assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

A man who stole a 30cm (11.8in) knife from a college's training kitchen to use in a fight has been jailed for two and a half years.A teacher at Doncaster College pursued Daniel Heeley-Luty when he realised he did not recognise him and that he was not wearing a student lanyard as he was leaning over a cutlery 21-year-old admitted possession of a blade and affray after he ended up in a fight outside the college building with four other him at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, Recorder Anthony Kelbrick said things "could have gone horribly wrong" for both Heeley-Luty and the others. In this latest incident, a man is filmed calmly walking through a carpark as police shout at him to drop the knife. Police were initially called to Motto Drive about 6pm to reports of a man with a knife behaving erratically. The man is hit with a Taser after walking through the carpark and ignoring police. Picture: Facebook In the 85s clip – posted to social media – he walks cooly across the carpark as sirens blare. Police then taser him, and a member of the public kicks him as the police pile on top. A member of the public picks up the knife, which appears to be a wooden-handled hunting knife, about 20cm in length. A police spokesperson said officers were called to reports of an armed man behaving erratically outside a youth centre. A member of the public picked up the knife.
