Derrick White Gets Real on the Boston Celtics Offseason Moves

When a team begins retooling the roster, we always think about how those changes are going to impact the on-court product and what the viewing experience is going to be like. We seldom wonder what impact it's going to have in the locker room, as players lose close friends and suddenly have a new group of personalities to integrate into the ecosystem. That's exactly the position the Boston Celtics roster has found itself in this summer. Out went Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet, and (likely) Al Horford. In came Anfernee Simons, Luka Garza, Josh Minott, Hugo Gonzalez, Amari Williams and Max Shulga. That's a significant amount of turnover for one summer and will undoubtedly change the dynamic behind the scenes. In the debut episode of his "White Noise" podcast, Derrick White provided some insight into what it means for a player when one or more of their teammates get traded, and how players move forward despite the surrounding upheaval. White also shared his thoughts on his former teammates and the bond they all shared after winning a championship together. You can watch the full segment by clicking on the embedded video above. Maryland coach Mike Locksley admits 'I lost my locker room' during 4-8 season in 2024

Maryland coach Mike Locksley had an admission to make at Big Ten media day on Tuesday. Locksley told reporters in his opening statement that he 'lost my locker room' during a 4-8 campaign in 2024. Though he didn't specifically mention players' NIL deals as a reason why the locker room was fractured, Locksley said that he had a group of players who were haves and have-nots. 'When you think about our team, here's what I'll tell you. This for me is a kind of year of what I like to call vulnerability,' Locksley said. 'One of the greatest characteristics you can have as a leader is the ability to be vulnerable.' 'I'll tell you, a year ago Coach Locks lost his locker room. For me to stand in front of a group of media and tell you that I lost my locker rom, and it wasn't because I wasn't a good coach, it wasn't because they weren't good players because we were better than a four-win team. What we had to do was we had haves and have-nots for the first time in our locker room and the landscape of college football taught me a valuable lesson.' 'That valuable lesson is it's important for me, even in the midst of this change, to continue to educate our players on the importance of what playing for something bigger than yourself is all about, and I can tell you that if I've got to put my desk in the locker room this year, I will.' The 2024 season was just the second full losing season in Locksley's tenure with the team. Maryland went 3-9 in his first season in 2019 and had won 23 games over the previous three seasons and capped each of those with a bowl win. Advertisement There was no bowl game a season ago thanks to that losing record. Maryland's only conference win of the season came in a thriller against USC in October before the Terrapins ended the season on a five-game losing streak. Seven of Maryland's eight losses came by double digits too. The Terps entered the 2024 season with Billy Edwards as the team's starting QB following the departure of Taulia Tagovailoa. Tua's younger brother asked the NCAA for a waiver to play a sixth season in 2024 but was denied thanks to a fifth game he played as a freshman in Alabama in 2019. Edwards played in 11 games a season ago and transferred to Wisconsin in the offseason. True freshman Malik Washington could end up being the team's 2025 starter. He was a four-star recruit in the class of 2025 as the No. 3 dual-threat QB in the country and signed with Maryland in December of 2024. 'But I can tell you, last year was tough on me as a coach because for the first time those really strong relationships were questioned because I had to decide whether to pay a freshman coming in or take care of a veteran player that helped me go to three bowl games and have success and do something that hadn't been done in 130 years in the history of Maryland football.'

Packers unveil updated locker room in Lambeau Field ahead of training camp

The Green Bay Packers unveiled a fully updated locker room for players inside Lambeau Field ahead of the start of training camp on Tuesday. All veteran players are reporting to camp on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's opening practice, so Matt LaFleur's team is in for a treat upon reporting back to Green Bay. The new locker room keeps the iconic "G" in the middle but features updated lockers and visuals, new bathrooms and lighting and added seating areas for players. The team provided a full photo gallery of the locker room here. While the previous locker room was fine by NFL standards, an update was necessary and sought after by players. In the NFLPA's grading of teams, the Packers received a B- grade for the locker room, ranking 12th in the NFL. Overall, the locker room was the most common answer from players in terms of needed upgrades, and the Packers listened. A locker room is not only an important space for players but also a selling point for the team when courting free agents and other players. The Packers now have a modernized locker room inside their iconic stadium. The Packers are opening a highly anticipated 2025 season in style. Cutting edge: Jets unveil a renovated locker room that includes 92 new lockers and a barbershop

The new-look New York Jets underwent an Extreme Makeover: Locker Room Edition during the offseason. Players such as star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, cornerback Sauce Gardner and new quarterback Justin Fields reporting for the team's training camp Tuesday were arriving at the Jets' facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, to a fully renovated locker room with some state-of-the-art upgrades. In a release on its website, which also included a drone-footage tour, the team announced it added 92 customized lockers along with several other amenities, including a barbershop, a larger sauna and a brightly lit 2,000-pound 3D Jets ceiling logo in the middle of the locker room. The upgrades, which the team said had been in the works for a few years, came after a players poll released by the NFL Players Association in February gave the Jets a D-plus for their locker room, ranking 26th in the league. The team moved into its current facility in 2008. Woody Johnson received an F and was the lowest-ranked owner. The team received an overall ranking of 29th. 'We take pride in having a first-class environment for the players," Robert Mastroddi, the Jets' senior vice president of security and facility operations, told the team's website. "These upgrades will certainly provide more comfort, but they also will help with wellness, efficiency and ultimately performance. There is a commitment to winning and that's where this all derived from.' The Jets, who have the NFL's longest active playoff drought at 14 seasons, have a new general manager in Darren Mougey and head coach in Aaron Glenn. The two revamped the roster this offseason by infusing more youth — moves that included releasing veterans such as Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, C.J. Mosley, Greg Zuerlein and Thomas Morstead. The new lockers, designed by the Texas-based Longhorn Locker Company, have fully automated video screens — the Jets say they're the first pro or college team to have them — that include the players' headshots, names, hometowns and colleges. There also are three separate fans to dry their helmets, shoulder pads and cleats in an effort to reduce moisture and lower risks of staph infections. Mastroddi said the Jets are also the first team to have an on-site barbershop that includes two vintage barber chairs. 'We want to make it comfortable, keep players in the building because they want to be there," Mastroddi said. "We're offering them all the amenities that they would have to go outside to get.' ___ AP NFL:
