‘And Just Like That …' Season 3 Premiere Recap: Outlook Good

My jaw is bruised from hitting the floor when Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) tells her gal pals that her boyfriend, Aidan (John Corbett), asked for 'no communication' while he deals with family issues — and that she is just fine with giving it to him. No communication. For five full years. And this is supposed to be love? Let's review how we got here. At the end of Season 2 of 'And Just Like That …,' the on-again lovers Carrie and Aidan found themselves at an impasse when Aidan's son, Wyatt, hit hard times. Wyatt needed paternal supervision — so much so, apparently, that Aidan felt compelled to devote himself to it entirely back home in Virginia. The Gramercy palace Carrie had just purchased for the two of them became a reluctant bachelorette pad, and their love was relegated to a long-distance situationship. At that point, we knew Carrie and Aidan were going to hold onto their love connection but weren't going to visit each other — as implausible as that seemed alone. What was less apparent until the first few moments of Season 3 was that they weren't going to speak, period. No texting, no FaceTime, not even the occasional Instagram like. The only hellos they're exchanging are blank postcards, which they're each sending back and forth between Virginia and New York, and for Carrie, this is apparently enough. Right. This no-contact-but-stay-together setup was never realistic — even if we suspended every possible disbelief. It is even more absurd that Carrie plays along. It doesn't take long for Aidan to break his own rule, though. All he needed were three beers and a good, old-fashioned 'ache.' He buzz-dials Carrie out of nowhere and lures her into one-sided, rather frantic phone sex. (Carrie may have been more enthusiastic if not for the beady eyes of her kitty-cat, Shoe, who was watching from the edge of the bed. But between that, Aidan's intoxicated grunts, and a disruptive horn-blare, she just couldn't quite get there.) Not long after, Carrie calls up Aidan for Round 2, but the time is no good for Aidan. He is back on Wyatt patrol, lying in bed beside his sleeping son. Carrie hangs up in shame. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Mary Fowler lifts the lid on the hilarious question Nathan Cleary had planned to ask her during her first-ever podcast appearance, before the NSW star switched to a more serious topic

Mary Fowler has revealed the hilarious question her boyfriend Nathan Cleary had planned to ask her during her first-ever podcasting appearance before he switched tact to quiz her on a more serious topic. The Manchester City star sat down last week with the Keegan and Company podcast to talk about everything from long-distance relationships to her ACL recovery. Fowler is currently in the United Kingdom has been unable to travel back to Australia to watch Cleary play in Wednesday's State of Origin Opening match. The Queensland native said that she had been persuaded to switch her allegiances from the Maroons to the Blues because of Cleary. And she'll be happy with Wednesday evening's result, after the Panther's half guided NSW to an 18-6 victory at the Suncorp Stadium in State of Origin I. But after opening up on their long-distance relationship, it was Cleary's turn to ask her a question. 'If you could choose a behaviour for everyone in the world to say, or for everyone in the world to know, what would it be?' The New South Wales star added. He also paid a touching note to his beau, adding: 'Interested to hear your answer and I know I tell you this a lot but I'm so proud of you I love you and I miss you lots. 'Enjoy, love ya babes.' Fowler and Cleary are understood to have first met at an adidas event back in 2023 and have since got fans online talking about their romance, with the couple regularly sharing an insight into their lives on social media, travelling the world as they both compete on the world's biggest sporting stages. 'That's so cute I really like that,' Fowler replied. 'Can I just say, he told me before he was like I'm sending like a voice message to you. 'Because, obviously, I did it for him... So he was like yeah, I'm doing it. 'So he was like: "I was going to send a funny one but decided I'd send a more like serious one..." 'The funny one, I was like: "You should have sent us that." 'The funny one was: "Who is the funniest person in your life and why is it me?"' Fowler couldn't stop laughing at the joke before turning her attention to answer Cleary's serious question. 'A behaviour that I think everyone should display, or something that everyone should know... 'I think that kindness goes a long way, you don't realise how well people can mask how they're really feeling until you go through something and you really mask it. 'The simple things can have the biggest impact on people so I just think being kind, saying hello to people, holding the ball for people... it's so basic, it makes people see like they're seen and they're cared for. 'It's something that I try to in put into my life every day. Everyone has moments where they're annoyed at people, but I think if people just showed kindness throughout their day, it would just make everyone feel a lot better.'

Mary Fowler reveals how she and Nathan Cleary make their long-distance romance work - and drops a bombshell about her playing future that will crush Matildas fans

Australian Matilda's star Mary Fowler has been famously guarded about her relationship with NRL superstar Nathan Cleary, but has now opened up on how they are making long-distance romance work. Fowler and Penrith Panthers star halfback Nathan Cleary have been in a relationship since August 2023. Their romance began after meeting at an Adidas event, where they connected over deep conversations about life rather than typical flirtation. Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship - Fowler playing soccer for Manchester City in the UK and Cleary playing rugby league for the Penrith Panthers in Australia - their relationship is still going strong. Fowler is currently rehabbing a ruptured ACL and opened up on the injury, self-belief, her art and her romance with Cleary on the Keegan and Company podcast. And she said there was one key factor that was helping the two sporting superstars manage the gulf of distance between them. 'I think it helped that we started off as long distance, because we didn't have to transition from having so much nice time together, and then doing it,' Fowler said. 'Which I think is quite difficult. Like, I know couples that have been together for years and then one them has to go abroad for a bit, and it is just really difficult to transition from having that close contact and quality time, to now having a phone call. It just doesn't match up. 'But I think for the both of us, we just really enjoy having deep conversations and it has just worked for us how we've adjusted to having phone calls and having quality time on the phone.' Fowler and Cleary will have often just chill out together on phone and video chats, and enjoy playing Bananagrams, a portable word game where players race to build connected crossword grids using letter tiles. But they also engage in high-level, deep discussions which Fowler said they might not have if they were together in person constantly. 'Sometimes we'll have discussions, sometimes we will play games like Bananagrams, but I think we have just gotten really good at communicating,' she said. 'I think we see a lot of positives that come from being in long distance relationships before you transition to being together. Because our communication has to be so much better, because we are long distance. 'Obviously you're not with each other, so being able to discuss when are we going to be able to speak with each other, being on the phone having a conversation, I don't know how often we would we sit down and just have conversations for hours if we were in person. 'Yeah we would go for coffee and stuff, but maybe we would be doing other things. We would just be a lot more chill, having a lot more 'ambi time' rather than actually connecting in discussion. 'I think that is something I enjoy having with him, that we're able to just actually enjoy each other's company just be doing nothing, just talking.' Ambi time is a term Mary came up with while chatting with her best friends in Europe. It can involve them watching TV, cooking, or just chilling while on the phone, rather than having deep discussions or somethings, even talking at all. Just being present with each other, but on the phone. However, Fowler - who started her professional career at the Illawarra Stingrays after growing up in Cairns in far north Queensland - has bad news for Matildas fans. The chances of her returning to Australia to play professional football are slim to none. 'I'm not going to be playing football in Australia anytime soon, if ever,' she said. 'But I'm going to be in Europe, so if we do this, it's going to have to be long distance.' Cleary is contracted with the Panthers until 2027, but there has been plenty of speculation he could seek an early release to be with his partner in the UK. Fowler's declaration that she will not be playing domestic football in Australia, possibly ever, will only fuel those rumours. And Cleary has previously said that he could be open to the idea. 'I'm not against it,' he said. 'I have a pretty open mind to that kind of stuff,' he said. 'I think just being able to experience different cultures and different experiences is something I enjoy doing.' The Panthers recently let star forward James Fisher-Harris leave before his contract expired on compassionate grounds so he could be closer to family in New Zealand. But whether they will do the same for their star halfback, or whether the question is even asked, remains undetermined. For now, Cleary is just happy with the status quo. 'It's always a nice thing to look forward to after a game, and getting to see her on FaceTime,' he said previously. 'We don't really talk about the game much. She's still learning about the game – she never watched footy. 'She makes me happy, and that definitely helps – she's super supportive, and that's what I love about her.'

Love Island star sparks concern for relationship as she reveals ‘tough time' with long-distance boyfriend

A LOVE Island star has sparked concern for her relationship, after she revealed having a "tough time" with her long-distance boyfriend The 25-year-old, who starred in the 10th series of the ITV2 show, is pining for her man who lives on the other side of the country. 5 5 Love Island star Ella Barnes has spilled the beans on when she met, but at the same time talked about how "tough" a long distance romance can be. The reality star is dating footballer Neil Farrugia. In a post on her Instagram story she was asked how she met her boyfriend, and she replied: "Me and Olivia Hawkins went to Malta for @isleofmtv festival last summer. "I met Neil the first night I got there and we juts clicked instantly. "I was never meant to go on the trip it was super last minute. "I am truly a believer of that everything happens for a reason. "We met organically in person which is so rare these days and I'm super grateful for that. "Even more rare is that we make it work long distance! "However by the end of the year we will ne living together." In another post she revealed it had been "tough" as she hadn't seen Neil for "four weeks", as they live so far apart. INSTAGRAM OFFICIAL The couple went Instagram official in October, after teasing their romance last summer. The smitten pair shared a selfie of themselves in bathrobes in a posh London hotel The couple were first spotted together over the summer, as they celebrated Ella's 25th birthday in Dubai. 5 PAST LOVE Ella's love life includes a short stint with fellow Love Island star Mitchell Taylor after meeting in the villa, but they split shortly after. She was also linked to Towie star Roman Hackett, but is now firmly loved up with Neil. Yet this isn't the first time Neil has dated a Love Island star either, as he was previously linked to Gemma Owen - daughter of former England footballer Michael Owen. Gemma starred in the eighth series of the show back in 2022, and during her time in the villa, Gemma's ex Jacques O'Neill joined the cast - leaving Gemma stunned. At the time it was reported that Neil wanted to do the same to try and win back his former girlfriend. He previously told OK!: "If I did, I would definitely try my best to turn Gemma's head back in my direction – and I think I could make that happen. "Our relationship ended on really good terms, so we still have positive vibes between us. "I think I could make things interesting in the villa." 5

Chimps drum like people do. Here's what that tells us about evolution

Chimpanzees drum on tree trunks with regular rhythms, suggesting rhythmic drumming may predate humans, scientists say. Analysis of 371 drumming bouts by chimpanzees demonstrates a clear pattern, offering insights into the potential rhythmic abilities of our last common ancestor, who lived about six million years ago. The drumming, audible for over a kilometre, is believed to be a form of long-distance communication with individual chimps possessing unique drumming styles. Chimps from different regions of Africa drum with distinctly different rhythms. This research reinforces the idea that rhythm plays a significant role in chimpanzee communication and potentially predates humans.
