Legendary's STREET FIGHTER Movie Casts Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim — GeekTyrant
Legendary's live-action Street Fighter movie has added some serious martial arts credibility with the casting of Indian action star Vidyut Jammwal ( Commando ) as Dhalsim, according to Deadline. This marks Jammwal's Hollywood debut, and sources say he's been extremely selective about the project that would introduce him to U.S. audiences. Known for his intense action work and jaw-dropping fight choreography in India, the actor brings an authentic physicality to the role of Dhalsim, a fan-favorite character first introduced in Street Fighter II in 1991. Dhalsim is a yogi with the ability to breathe fire, a fundamentally peaceful man who fights only to support his family. Jammwal is already a massive star in India, with over 22 million followers on social media and a résumé that includes blockbuster franchises like Commando and Khuda Haafiz . While he's hugely popular internationally, this is his first step into the Hollywood spotlight. As previously revealed, the movie's ensemble is packed with talent, including: Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip), with plot details still under wraps. Since its debut in 1987, Street Fighter has been a cultural phenomenon, selling over 55 million copies worldwide and standing as one of the most iconic fighting game franchises ever created. Legendary seems to be going all-in on bringing the colorful, diverse cast of fighters to life, and with Jammwal stepping in as Dhalsim, fans can expect some incredible on-screen combat. What do you think of this casting choice? Does Jammwal fit the role of Dhalsim?
