Red Air Quality Alert in effect for Minnesota until Monday due to wildfire smoke

Northland wildfire smoke will make for a hot and hazy start to the weekend. Smoke is one of the two main stories this weekend — and possibly next week too. Air quality will be impacted severely on Saturday — more so than Friday— as most of the state is under Red Air Quality Alerts, which will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Monday. The smoke will fluctuate in altitude, allowing for periods of reprieve, however the haze will likely persist. Temperatures are the other story this weekend as they continue to climb. Saturday will see highs in the low and mid 80s, with the possibility of hitting 90 in spots on Sunday and Monday. Monday will likely be the hottest day of the season this year, challenging daily record highs in the low 90s. The next chance for rain comes Monday night into Tuesday. Models show that most place will only see one to one and half inches of rain, which will likely wrapping up by Wednesday morning. Some parts of the system could be strong to severe across west-central Minnesota late Monday. Be sure to stay with WCCO as meteorologist fine tune this forecast over the next few days. Along with breezy winds, temperatures will drop back closer to average into the 70s for the middle to end of the week.

NEXT Weather Alert: Strong storms, flood risk possible for South Florida this weekend

A NEXT Weather Alert is in effect for South Florida from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday as isolated strong to severe storms are expected to roll across the region, CBS News Miami Chief Meteorologist Ivan Cabrera said. The alert comes as a frontal boundary moves into the area Saturday and stalls through the weekend, combining with a mid-level disturbance and ample tropical moisture to create unstable conditions. Cabrera emphasized the threat is not widespread, classifying it as a Level 1 out of 5, but warned that marginally severe storms could still develop. "With daytime heating, sea breeze interactions, and an incoming front, we could see strong gusty winds, brief hail, and heavy downpours Saturday afternoon into the early evening," Cabrera said. "Localized flooding is possible where storms linger." Storm timing and severity vary through the weekend Weather outlook for Saturday. CBS News Miami The Saharan Air Layer (SAL), a dry, dusty mass of air from Africa, could suppress storm development earlier in the day but is not expected to prevent storms from forming entirely, Cabrera added. Sunday is forecast to be slightly less active, though one or two strong storms could still pop up in the afternoon. Both days could bring heavy rainfall, and the deep tropical moisture in the atmosphere means even brief storms may produce significant rainfall totals. Temperatures are expected to reach the lower 90s Saturday and Sunday before rain cools things off. More storms, possible alerts early next week By Monday, the frontal boundary is forecast to remain stalled, and a strengthening disturbance could trigger another round of strong storms with localized flooding potential. Additional NEXT Weather Alerts may be issued. Looking ahead to midweek, a new surge of Saharan dust may push in from the Caribbean, possibly limiting storm coverage. However, high chances of showers and storms remain in the forecast through at least Wednesday. Looking ahead to midweek, a new surge of Saharan dust may push in from the Caribbean. CBS News Miami No marine alerts are currently in effect.

UAE weather tomorrow: Temperatures to decrease; could get dusty at times

As the UAE weather department had predicted a few days ago, temperatures continue to dip across the country. The forecast for Saturday, May 31 is for partly cloudy skies with a gradual decrease in temperatures, according to the bulletin issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). It could get dusty at times with blowing dust and sand reducing the horizontal visibility at times, with a speed of 15kmph and 30kmph, reaching 40kmph. The sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate, becoming rough by evening in Oman Sea. It will be mostly sunny in Abu Dhabi with temperatures in the UAE capital likely to see a high of 40°C and a low of 28°C, while in Dubai, it will be 43°C with a low of 27°C. Sharjah will witness a high of 42°C and a low of 28°C. The NCM had on May 27 said that after days of intense heat, residents across the UAE can look forward to some cooler days. Temperatures will begin to dip by four to five degrees in the coming days, a senior meteorologist had said. The scorching conditions were caused by an internal low-pressure system from the south of the UAE, pushing hot desert air across the region. Last weekend saw temperatures soar to a staggering 51.6°C in Sweihan, Al Ain, marking the hottest May day ever recorded in the country since 2003. The previous record stood at 50.2°C in Al Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi, experienced in 2009.
