EXCLUSIVE Female prison guard, 26, who had phone sex with inmate and flooded his mother with more than 900 messages faces jail
A lovestruck prison officer who pursued an illicit relationship with an inmate now faces being locked up herself. Megann Gibson, 26, engaged in sexual communications with the prisoner while working at Wealstun prison near Wetherby, West Yorkshire. The rookie guard flooded the criminal's mother with more than 900 messages, reportedly in a bid stay in contact with him. She also allowed the unnamed inmate into restricted areas of the Category C resettlement prison and visited his home address, a court heard. Gibson, from Leeds, West Yorkshire, was this week warned she faces jail over the forbidden romance, while joining a growing list of shamed female prison guards convicted over behind bars liaisons. The shamed officer, who admitted misconduct in a public office and possession of cannabis, will be sentenced in August. Gibson, who lives in a semi-detached home with her sister and driving instructor mother in the Gipton suburb of Leeds, was warned by a judge at the city's crown court: 'You may well be serving a prison sentence.' Her twin sister Hollie declined to comment on the case, saying: 'I really don't want to talk about it. It's not a very nice subject for me.' The plea hearing was told that Gibson is undergoing assessment for mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress linked to a previous relationship. She was released on unconditional bail but warned her offence was a 'serious matter'. At least 29 female prison guard have been given the sack in the past three years for forming improper relationships with prisoners. That compares to just nine women who lost their jobs for the same offence between 2017 and 2019. Katie Evans, 26, embarked on an illicit romance with inmate Daniel Brownley while working at HMP Doncaster, calling herself his 'queen' as she lavished him with attention. The mother-of-one, who was jailed for 21 months in March, boasted about sex acts on the criminal and collecting drugs cash on his behalf. Her criminal behaviour was exposed during an anti-corruption investigation into another crooked guard at the category B jail. Morgan Farr Varney, 24, was this month locked up for ten months after being caught slipping into a cupboard with a prisoner while working at HMP Lindholme in South Yorkshire. Gibson's twin sister Hollie (pictured) declined to comment on the case, saying: 'I really don't want to talk about it. It's not a very nice subject for me.' She became besotted with crack cocaine dealer Jordan Stones, 30, who pinned racy snaps of his prison officer lover to his cell walls. Cherrie-Ann Saddington, 29 smuggled a Calpol syringe into jail to artificially inseminate herself with a prisoner's sperm. The shamed officer became obsessed with convicted sex offender Bradley Trengrove after he was moved to HMP The Verne in Dorset. The female prison warden told Trengrove she was pregnant in November 2022, although she later miscarried after eight weeks. She was mercifully spared jail by a judge in May after being left in a wheelchair from a spinal stroke. In January, former Wandsworth prison officer Linda De Sousa Abreu, 31, was jailed for 15 months after a film of her having sex with an inmate was shared online.

Police express concern over use of force after officer fired for ‘aggressively' detaining knife wielding teen
COPS are worried about using force when making arrests after a colleague was sacked for his 'aggressive' detaining of a knife-carrying teen. The Dorset Police Federation is seeking 'urgent clarification' from senior officers after PC Lorne Castle was found guilty of gross misconduct. He stepped in after the 15-year-old was suspected of assaulting two people, one and elderly man, in Bournemouth. Father-of-three Castle, 46 — winner of a national bravery award last year — had pinned him against a wall before taking him to the ground. Former officer Keith Clothier said: 'A good cop has had his career flushed down the toilet, for what? "Failing to show courtesy and respect to a knife-carrying thug. He added: 'The country is in the grip of a knife crime epidemic and this is the message we are sending out to those that would flout the law? 'Those who have been involved in this decision should hang their heads in shame, as we have good experienced officers leaving in droves because they don't feel supported in the job they once loved.' Dorset Police said: 'Tackling unethical or unacceptable behaviour remains a force priority. 'We continue to support our colleagues where they use force in a lawful and proportionate way and the standards of behaviour, that the public expect, are upheld." Former policeman Joe Terry added: 'I have never in my life seen such an outpouring of support from the public for an officer as I have in the past week."

NEWS OF THE WEEK: Judge denies Sean 'Diddy' Combs' bid for mistrial
The hip-hop mogul's lawyers had called for a mistrial in his federal racketeering conspiracy and sex-trafficking trial, alleging misconduct by prosecutors in the case. They argued that prosecutors had improperly suggested and implied through questioning that Combs was involved in the destruction of evidence tied to the investigation into rapper Scott Mescudi's (Kid Cudi's) car being firebombed. Their request was quickly denied by the judge. "There was absolutely no testimony from the witness that was prejudicial in any way, shape or form," Judge Arun Subramanian countered.

Vatican rules on fate of former Charlotte pastor accused of inappropriate behavior
The Rev. Patrick Hoare's removal as pastor of St. Matthew Catholic Church amid accusations of misconduct involving youth was justified under church law, the Vatican City-based government of the Roman Catholic Church has ruled. St. Matthew in Ballantyne is the largest Catholic parish in Charlotte and among the biggest in the U.S. Charlotte Catholic Bishop Michael Martin revealed the Holy See's ruling in a statement to St. Matthew parishioners published Thursday in the diocesan newspaper, Catholic News Herald. The Holy See ruled on Hoare's appeal of his removal in 2020 by then-Charlotte Catholic Bishop Peter Jugis. Hoare's removal followed a review by the diocese's Lay Review Board of 'specific claims of boundary violations with minors.' The board found 'a semblance of truth' to the allegations, Martin wrote. Jugis placed Hoare on administrative leave in December 2019 based on decades-old allegations of sexual abuse of a minor that arose in Pennsylvania, a decision criticized by some of Hoare's former parishioners, the Observer previously reported. A petition at the time calling for Hoare's return as pastor received 1,840 signatures. The petition describes Hoare as 'our beloved priest, spiritual director, and pastoral shepherd.' Hoare said at the time that the sexual allegations were false and that the alleged incident occurred before he became a priest. His appeal of his dismissal prevented the diocese from appointing a new St. Matthew pastor, Martin said. He said he will appoint one when diocese-wide priest assignments 'are finalized in the coming days.' Martin's statement did not say where Hoare is now.

Bedfordshire officer contacted women who blocked him, panel hears
A detective who repeatedly contacted women when they had asked him to stop would have been sacked had he not already retired, a hearing Insp Andy Southam joined Bedfordshire Police in 1997 and retired shortly before his misconduct panel this faced allegations related to nine women he had met on a Christian dating the first day of the panel he admitted to the accusations from seven women, which took place between 2015 and June 2022, as a result the panel did not pursue the accusations he denied any further. The hearing found that Mr Southam had told the women he was a "high ranking" police officer to gain their to the women the officer had asked inappropriate comments about their bodies and sex the women asked him to stop contacting them he would continue to send them messages. Controlling behaviour One woman said she started a relationship with Mr Southam in June 2015, but she ended it and blocked him in January 2016 after he demonstrated controlling continued to contact her intermittently over the next six woman told Mr Southam to stop contacting her in July 2021, but when he continued she reported him to the police in September 2021 and he was arrested on suspicion of harassment. Deputy Chief Constable Dan Vajzovic said: "This was a pattern of behaviours which was unwelcome, inappropriate and, at times, intimidating."His continued unwanted pursuance of females who had asked to be left alone will no doubt further erode the trust women and girls have in policing."Despite Mr Southam's cynical retirement immediately before the hearing it is right that we pursued this matter to its conclusion as this will ensure he is now barred from rejoining any police force."
