Tragedy as mum, 53, killed in horror motorbike crash on holiday
A British mum has died in a horror motorbike crash while on a couple's holiday in Jamaica. Lisa Ball, 53, from Keighley, West Yorkshire, was on-board a rented scooter when a pick-up truck smashed into the bike and sent her flying over 18 metres across the road. Lisa was on a dream holiday to the Caribbean with her partner Anthony Hurt as the pair celebrated their anniversary. Anthony is thought to have been driving the scooter with Lisa sat as a passenger when the truck pulled out from a restaurant car park on the island's tourist trail near to Montego Bay. Both were dramatically thrown from the Honda scooter along the North Coast Highway, according to horrified witnesses. The tragic accident took place around 7.40pm on May 19. Lisa tragically suffered fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to hospital. Anthony reportedly escaped with just minor injuries to his feet. A shocked eyewitness who stopped at the scene to help Lisa described the tragedy. 'I am still reeling from the shock of the incident, which made for a sleepless night,' Kacia Campbell-Jones said. She also revealed that the fatal crash took place as the couple were celebrating their anniversary as well as Lisa's birthday. Lisa, who was also known on social media as Jo-Ann Pickles, was reportedly staying at a resort near the coastal town of Lucea. Tributes have poured in for the beloved family woman since her death was confirmed by Jamaican police. Her heartbroken daughter Chloe Watson left a heart-aching message on social media saying: 'Love you mum.' She added: 'She was a much-loved mum and nana of Olivia, Daisy, Lyla, Lillie and Madelyn.' Close friend Fiona Ward said: 'This beautiful lady is one of my closest friends, she came to Jamaica for a holiday with her partner they were having the best time until this tragic accident.' 'This is such devastating news for her family and friends. Everyone who loved Jo is grieving.' Lisa was also labelled as a 'gentle soul, kind and caring' by Claire Ettenfield, a salon owner in her hometown of Keighley. The driver of the pick-up truck involved in the crash has been taken into custody by Jamaican police for questioning. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office told The Sun: 'We are supporting the family of a British national who has died in Jamaica and are in contact with the local authorities.' Lisa's death is the latest fatal tourist road accident in Jamaica in recent months. In February, a Canadian holiday-maker lost her life on the same highway just hours after she arrived at the island's airport. The British Foreign Office has guidance online for tourists warning them to be aware of the dangers of road accidents in the Caribbean. It states: 'Many roads are badly maintained with poor signage. In some locations a 4-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended.' 'Road accidents and fatalities are common. Roads in rural areas are often narrow and winding and poorly lit at night. 'Weather conditions can exacerbate poor driving conditions. 'Driving standards vary. Lane discipline is poor. Speeding and drink-driving is common. Many drivers do not have car insurance.'

Teenager arrested after woman, 86, killed while ‘using zebra crossing'
A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after an 86-year-old woman was allegedly hit by an electric motorbike while she used a pedestrian crossing, police have said. The family of Gloria Stephenson, from Silksworth, Sunderland, has paid tribute after she died on May 16 on the city's Burdon Road. Northumbria Police said it was understood she was using 'a zebra crossing when she was struck by a black Sur-Ron electric motorcycle, travelling in a southbound direction'. Her family said: 'It is with great sadness that our amazing mam, Gloria Stephenson, was tragically killed on the 16th of May. 'We are all devastated at the loss of our vibrant, active, beautiful, and intelligent mam, grandma, mother-in-law and great grandma. 'The press described her as an 'elderly lady' – however, we want to make absolutely clear that our mam was full of life. 'She was active, fit, healthy, and had years left to give her love and share her energy and zest for life with everyone who knew her. 'The family want to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone who supported mam, and her daughter and grandson at the scene.' Northumbria Police said the rider initially drove away from the scene but he was arrested later on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and the bike was recovered. The teenager has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. Sergeant Russell Surrey, of Northumbria Police, said: 'Our thoughts remain with all of Gloria's family and loved ones as they try to process what has happened. 'We will support them in any way that we can, as we look to get them the answers they deserve. 'I'd like to thank those who have been in touch to share information and footage with us so far – and would urge any further witnesses to contact us.'

Her partner, Anthony Hurt, who is thought to have been driving the scooter, reportedly escaped with just minor injuries to his feet. An eyewitness who stopped at the scene to tend to Ms Ball told how she had been left shaken by the tragedy. Posting online, Kacia Campbell-Jones wrote: 'I am still reeling from the shock of the incident, which made for a sleepless night, particularly since it fell on my birthday and your anniversary and birthday celebration. 'Please accept my heartfelt condolences, and I hope my assistance at the scene was in some way helpful, especially trying to get an ambulance and preparing the A&E staff before she got there.' Stu Laundy has revealed he's lucky to be alive after being involved in a horrific motorbike crash while holidaying in Vietnam. The 52-year-old reality TV star and millionaire publican was struck by a truck and thrown from his bike during the terrifying accident, which left him with multiple serious injuries and clinging to life. Laundy was holidaying with family at the time of the crash and was airlifted back to Australia on a private medical jet fitted out like a flying hospital – complete with a doctor and two nurses. It was all thanks to his billionaire father Arthur, who pulled out all the stops to ensure his son got urgent care. 'I was in and out of consciousness for a while. I got a busted knee, sternum, shoulder, ribs, clots in my lungs and infections. Vietnam hospitals are not that crash hot so Dad organised to have me flown home. I'm very lucky,' Laundy told The Daily Telegraph. The former Bachelorette winner – who famously dated Sophie Monk following the 2017 series – credited his ex-wife Rachel, a nurse who was travelling with the family, for being by his side and overseeing initial treatment at the scene. 'Rachel never left my side,' Laundy added. 'Lucky she was there. The accident just happened from nothing. I was riding along and a truck pulled out of its lane and I ran straight into it. At 52, I probably shouldn't be riding a motorbike but the truck driver has accepted the blame.' After being flown home, Laundy was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, where he underwent two rounds of surgery. He remains in recovery and is slowly regaining his strength. Laundy, a fixture in Sydney's social scene and a key figure in his family's hospitality empire. He is also known for helping orchestrate the Canterbury Bulldogs' landmark signing of Phil Gould in 2021. Stu became a household name when he won Sophie Monk's season of The Bachelorette in 2017. Their romance was short-lived, however, with 41-year-old Sophie confirming their split in January 2018. 'I gave it the best shot I could and my intentions were everything I said I was looking for but unfortunately it just didn't work out,' she wrote. 'Because I entered this relationship so publicly I know I owe an answer to Australia about my personal life,' she wrote in a lengthy post. 'I went into this experience looking to settle down and start a family. I gave it the best shot I could and my intentions were everything I said I was looking for, but unfortunately it just didn't work out.' The former Bardot singer added: 'As much as I respect him we are just very different people.'
