M5 closed while police investigate serious crash

A section of motorway is closed in both directions while police investigate a serious crash. Avon and Somerset Police said the M5, between J13, A419 (Stroud), and J14, B4509 (Thornbury/ Fairfield), was closed following a crash at about 21:30 BST on Friday. National Highways said "due to the severity of the incident and complexity of the vehicle recovery", the closure was expected to remain in place until about 16:00 BST. All emergency services including the air ambulance attended the crash. National Highways said: "The closure will remain in place for an extended duration to enable a comprehensive investigation. "Upon completion, National Highways service providers will carry out an assessment of the infrastructure and commence any necessary repairs." Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the solid triangle diversion symbol on road signs, exiting the M5 at J14 and turning left onto the B4509. Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the solid circle diversion symbol on road signs, exiting the motorway at J13 on to the A38. Part of a motorway has been closed after reports a lorry overturned in a collision. National Highways said the M40 was closed at about 08:15 BST heading southbound between junction six for Watlington, Oxfordshire, and junction five for Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire. It added that a "substantial fuel spillage" was also reported and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue were on the scene. 'Major' crash shuts M4 motorway in both directions

A motorway has been closed in both directions following a major Highways said the M4 in Berkshire was closed eastbound, between junctions 11 and 10, and westbound, between junctions 8/9 and 11, because of a "serious injury incident involving an overturned vehicle".South Central Ambulance Service confirmed it had five critical care units and six ambulances at the scene on Sunday afternoon. Thames Valley Air Ambulance, Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue and Thames Valley Police were also there, National Highways said.
