Charlene Hobbs: Renewed appeal to find missing mum a year on from her last sighting
A renewed appeal has been launched to find a missing mum from Cardiff, one year on from when she was last seen. Police investigating the disappearance of Charlene Hobbs, 36, say a 46-year-old man arrested in connection with the investigation has been re-arrested and released on bail. The last confirmed sighting of Ms Hobbs was in a photograph of her at a property in Broadway, in the Adamsdown area of Cardiff, on 24 July last year. Her hair was tied in a bun, with a distinctive dragon tattoo on her back. In March, South Wales Police said it had launched a murder investigation into the disappearance of Ms Hobbs. Police have so far spoken to 400 people linked to the investigation, visited 629 properties as part of enquiries, reviewed more than 1,000 hours of public and private CCTV and recorded more than 3,300 documents. The force said further searches, forensic examinations, and house-to-house enquiries are taking place. The disappearance of Ms Hobbs, who is from the Adamsdown area of Cardiff, continues to be treated as a murder investigation by detectives. The charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. Detective Chief Inspector Matt Powell, from South Wales Police, said the investigation into Ms Hobbs's disappearance was "complex and meticulous". "Despite a huge number of enquiries, which are continuing, unfortunately no one has come forward with information about what has happened to Charlene or where she is," he added. "We remain committed to finding Charlene and a specialist team of officers and staff are focused on the investigation." DCI Powell said Ms Hobbs's family were "desperate for answers" and that they continue to be supported by a family liaison officer. The force said it was aware the Crimestoppers appeal had generated "strong interest", as police urged anyone with information to get in touch.

Couple who died after arson attack remembered as ‘life and soul of the party'
A 'deeply loved' couple who died after an arson at their home are being remembered as the 'life and soul of the party'. Eric Greener, 77, and Sheila Jackson, 83, died following the blaze in St Helens, Merseyside, in the early hours of 15 July. Police have launched a murder investigation. 'Sheila and Eric, also known as our Queen and King, were a deeply loved mum, nan, great-Nan, sister, auntie, dad, step-dad, grandad, great-grandad, uncle and couple,' their family said in a tribute. 'They were known for being the life and soul of the party, always loving a song on the karaoke and enjoying a great caravan holiday. 'They will forever be devastatingly missed but eternally loved by their family, friends and the community.' Merseyside Police said an accelerant was used to start the blaze at the home on South John Street. The couple had lived at the home for 15 years. A 46-year-old man from Fazakerley remains in custody after he was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday. A 31-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of murder and was conditionally bailed after questioning. Speaking earlier this week, Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson said: 'I know the community in St Helens is still feeling the shock and sadness of Eric and Sheila's tragic deaths. 'Our investigation team have been carrying out extensive inquiries into the incident and this second arrest demonstrates important progress is being made. 'We continue to ask the public to come forward with information, either directly to Merseyside Police or anonymously via Crimestoppers. 'If you have yet to come forward and recall seeing or hearing anything suspicious on or around South John Street around the time of the incident, please do not assume what you know has already been reported to us. 'Tell us what you know and we will assess all information as we build a full picture of what happened and ultimately seek to bring the perpetrators to justice.'

Fresh probe paper into 2013 death of tahfiz student handed to prosecutors
Wan Ahmad Faris Wan Abdul Rahman's body was found by a dormitory supervisor on Dec 14, 2013. (TikTok pic) PETALING JAYA : The fresh investigation paper into the death of a tahfiz student in 2013 has been referred to the Kelantan deputy public prosecutor's office, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today. Saifuddin confirmed that police had reopened their investigation into the death of Form 4 student Wan Ahmad Faris Wan Abdul Rahman after the Kota Bharu coroner's court ruled in June 2016 that he was murdered by an unidentified person. He did not specify when the fresh investigation was launched. 'The police recorded the statements of 14 witnesses, including taking further statements from the chemist and pathologist who conducted the autopsy on the deceased. 'The investigation paper into the sudden death report was submitted to the Kelantan deputy public prosecutor's office on April 28 for further action,' he said in a written parliamentary reply. He was responding to a question from Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), who wanted to know if the ministry was willing to open a fresh probe into Wan Faris's death. Wan Faris's body was found by a dormitory supervisor on Dec 14, 2013, after he detected an odour coming from a toilet at the dormitory. An autopsy classified it as sudden death and ruled out any criminal involvement. However, a coroner's court ruled in June 2016 that Wan Faris was murdered by an unidentified person. In November, the victim's parents, Wan Abdul Rahman Wan Yaacub, 73, and Ruhani Hussin, 69, said they were informed by the police in August 2023 that the investigation into their son's case had been classified as 'no further action' since September 2020. The Attorney-General's Chambers had found that the testimonies of all witnesses failed to identify those responsible, and the evidence was purely speculative. The couple urged the AGC to reopen the case, and also sent a letter to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pleading for a fresh investigation.
