Spain's emergency service phone lines go down in network failure
Areas across Spain have been left without emergency telephone and fixed-line services after upgrading work led to a network failure. Telefónica, a company in which the government has a 10 per cent stake, announced that the failure affected their fixed lines and 112 emergency telephone numbers in several regions. The regional governments of Aragon, the Basque country and Valencia announced alternative emergency telephone numbers. The most affected regions have been Madrid, Andalusia, Valencia and Catalonia, according to initial reports. Later the failure spread to other areas such as Aragon, Andalusia and the Basque country. The ministry for digital transformation and the civil service said that it is 'monitoring the situation, requesting precise information and temporary forecasts of the solution', El Pais reported. Major mobile network suffers massive outage in Spain weeks after electricity blackout
A nationwide phone network has shut down in Spain just weeks after the country's blackouts which caused havoc for citizens and heavy financial damage. Emergency services in a number of regions have had to provide alternative telephone numbers after network upgrades by Telefonica appears to have caused the failure. Landline telephones have been the worst affected, according to reports in Spain. "We have carried out some network upgrades that have affected specific services at some companies. We are working to resolve this," a Telefónica spokesperson said. Regions including Aragón, Extremadura, the Basque Country and the Valencia area all suffered impacts on their emergency service line, warning residents that they will not be able to get through on the usual 112 number

San Francisco came to a standstill Friday after the BART train system was suspended due to a network failure. BART service was halted around 6am PT, stranding thousands of commuters on their way to work. 'Due to a computer networking problem BART service is suspended system wide until further notice,' BART Alert shared on X.
