Prince Andrew among 100 people who could be dragged into Epstein scandal

Ghislaine Maxwell is said to have been formally questioned about Prince Andrew for the first time during a marathon nine-hour meeting with the US Deputy Attorney General. The 63-year-old was interviewed about her former friend the Duke of York as he came up in a 'laundry list' of more than 100 people linked to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, answered all of the questions 'honestly and truthfully', according to a source. Epstein's former girlfriend is not thought to have previously been formally questioned about Prince Andrew. It is not known what answers she gave, although it's reported 'she wants the truth to come out.' A source said: 'This is the first time anyone has asked Ghislaine about any of the men. 'She told the truth and didn't back away from any questions. 'She wants the truth to come out.' The Duke has always strenuously denied allegations by Virginia Giuffre that he sexually abused her when she was aged just 17 and while she was the victim of billionaire Epstein's sex trafficking ring. The senior royal paid a multi-million sum to Ms Giuffre in an out-of-court settlement, with no admission of wrongdoing. She died by suicide earlier this year. Maxwell has continued to be at the centre of the Epstein scandal as she serves 20 years at Tallahassee Federal Prison in Florida for her part in the sex trafficking ring. The two-day meeting with the US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche took place this week on the orders of Donald Trump, who is currently on a private visit to his golf courses in Scotland. The US president has been engulfed in the saga by promising to release the full Epstein Files before failing to do so. The questioning of Maxwell is part of the Justice Department's effort to dispel backlash over the Trump administration's handling of the files. A source told the Mail on Sunday: 'Ghislaine has never told her story to anyone in government before. At times it was very emotional but she answered every question asked of her. 'The limited immunity deal is a huge risk for her because this case is so politicised she only has immunity so long as she hasn't lied. 'She answered everything truthfully but she is taking a risk. 'She was asked about a laundry list of people including Prince Andrew, Bill Gates, Les Wexner, Bill Clinton, Alan Dershowitz, Leon Black and a who's who of powerful Wall Street moneymen and financiers. 'There were Silicon Valley names in there along with world leaders, other non-British royals aside from Andrew and famous names from the world of showbusiness. 'It's ironic that Elon Musk kicked this whole thing off when he fell out with Trump and then made that post on X about Trump allegedly preventing the release of the full Epstein documents as some sort of 'cover-up'. 'Well, Elon is in there, as is his brother. 'It was a monumental moment for Ghislaine to finally be asked about these people and to tell the truth.' Maxwell is due to have a new plea for an appeal before the US Supreme Court submitted tomorrow. She has been called to testify before a Congressional Committee on August 11. The source said: 'Of course she wants a pardon, what prisoner doesn't? 'But that isn't something which has been discussed. 'The president could commute her sentence in return for her cooperation. No one knows what will happen now. Todd Blanche will sit down with president Trump when he returns from Scotland and that is when the discussions about any potential deal will take place.' Prince Andrew reached the settlement with Ms Giuffre in February 2022, with the agreement being made on a without liability status — meaning it does not amount to an admission of guilt. More Trending At the time, Andrew pledged to 'demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein' by supporting the 'fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims'. Oleksandr Usyk's next fight quickly revealed as promoter confirms opponent

Oleksandr Usyk named a string of possible next opponents after knocking out Daniel Dubois on Saturday night, but it appears one man is at the front of the queue. Usyk (24-0) stopped Dubois (22-3) in the fifth round at Wembley after an entertaining, if quite brief, scrap for the undisputed world heavyweight title. The Brit started brightly and did manage to impose himself on the unbeaten champion, but Usyk's class and quality shone through. Dubois looked to be tiring pretty quickly and the Ukrainian ruthlessly put an end to his night in the fifth, dropping him and then stopping him with a brutal left hook. It was the second time Usyk has beaten Dubois, while he has also beaten Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua twice as well. The pound-for-pound great also beat Derek Chisora back in 2020, meaning his last opponent who was not a Brit was Chazz Witherspoon in Usyk's heavyweight debut in 2019. It now appears that he will take on non-British opponent, though, with New Zealand's Joseph Parker at the front of the line as the WBO mandatory challenger. Promoter Frank Warren confirmed to the BBC after Usyk stopped Parker: 'The WBO I'm sure, well they already have, ordered that as the WBO champion he has to make his mandatory defence against Joe Parker, so it's Joe Parker's time.' Usyk, who now holds the WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight straps seemed less clear about his immediate future, suggesting he could meet former foes yet again. 'Maybe it's Tyson Fury. Maybe we have three options,' he said. 'Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua. Maybe Joseph Parker. Listen I cannot now say because I want to [go] back home.' He added: 'Nothing is next. It's enough, next, I don't know. I want to rest. My family, my wife, my children, I want to rest now. Two or three months, I want to just rest.' Parker (36-3) has won his last six fights , with impressive victories over Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakolie putting him in position to challenge the undisputed heavyweight king. The 33-year-old has been world champion before, winning the WBO strap in 2016 when he beat Andy Ruiz, before losing it to Joshua in Cardiff in March 2018. He was in attendance to watch Usyk remain at the top of the heavyweight pile but was clear that he wants the next shot at the champ. 'There's always respect between fighters but I do want what he has,' Parker told the BBC. 'He looked incredible tonight. Power aggression, punching with bad intentions. Daniel put up a great fight from the beginning, it was back and forth, but in the end Usyk broke him down systematically and got him out of there. More Trending 'Usyk is a sensational fighter who has beaten everyone put in front of him so I would love the opportunity to see if I could make the different. 'My dream fight is this guy right here. I want to fight for all the belts. Undisputed unified champion of the world is what I want.' Meanwhile, Fury has confirmed that he will come back from his latest retirement and fight again in 2026. 'Young lion' Daniel Dubois faces unbeaten Oleksandr Usyk in heavyweight title showdown at Wembley

Boxing promoter Frank Warren stands between Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk, left, and Britain's Daniel Dubois as they go face to face during the weigh-in in London, Friday, July 18, 2025 ahead of their world heavyweight boxing title fight on Saturday (AP Photo/Kin Cheung) boxing By KEN MAGUIRE There are many reasons why Oleksandr Usyk should beat Daniel Dubois and leave Wembley Stadium as the undisputed world heavyweight champion on Saturday night. The Ukrainian is undefeated as a professional, including a stoppage of Dubois two years ago, and hasn't lost any bout in 16 years. Usyk feasts on British fighters. He dethroned Anthony Joshua at a packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2021. He won a gold medal at the London Olympics. London native Dubois insists things will be different this time and that his three recent knockout victories — most impressively a demolition of Joshua last September at Wembley — prove that he's the guy who can do what no other professional has done: beat Usyk. 'I'm just on a different level now,' the 27-year-old Dubois said Thursday. 'I'm ready to go through whatever I need to on Saturday and get those belts.' An expected crowd of 90,000 will be on hand when Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) puts his WBA, WBC and WBO titles on the line. He'll try to win Dubois' IBF belt to become a two-time undisputed world heavyweight champion. Lennox Lewis was the last British heavyweight to hold every major belt — accomplishing the feat in November 1999. Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) was outmatched by Usyk in their first fight, unable to defend the Ukrainian southpaw's jab and failing to land many power punches that night in Wroclaw, Poland in August 2023. Dubois sent Usyk to the canvas in the fifth round but his punch was ruled a low blow. A straight right ended Dubois' evening in the ninth. The last fighter to beat Usyk was Russia's Egor Mekhontsev in September 2009 at the amateur world championships. On Friday, Dubois weighed-in at 243½ lb, just over 10 lb heavier than the first time they fought. 'I'm locked in. I'm focused. I can't wait,' said Dubois, who is 5 lb lighter than his last fight. Usyk is at the heaviest of his career at 227¼ pounds — up from 226 lb against Tyson Fury last December. Friday's weight was just over 6 lb heavier than the first time he fought Dubois. 'For me, it's a great opportunity for my people and my country,' the Ukrainian said Friday. Usyk's past six fights have been against British opponents — all victories: the last two against Tyson Fury; the Dubois stoppage; consecutive wins over Anthony Joshua; and before that Zimbabwe-born British boxer Derek Chisora. Only one of his fights as a heavyweight involved a non-British opponent — that was in his debut in the division in October 2019 against Chazz Witherspoon of the United States. Usyk won an Olympic gold medal at the 2012 London Games. Four years prior in Liverpool, he was crowned amateur European champion in the light heavyweight category. In his last fight at the cruiserweight level, Usyk knocked out Liverpool's Tony Bellew in Manchester. He beat Chisora at Wembley Arena in 2020. Joseph Parker said he would approach Usyk the way Chisora did five years ago, by putting pressure on the Ukrainian and using more combinations. 'I feel like this fight depends on how Dubois shows up,' Parker said after Thursday's press conference. 'In the last three fights we've seen (him) a lot more confident within himself and what he's been able to do in the ring.' Dubois was scheduled to make a title defense against Parker in February but he backed out at the last minute citing an illness. Dubois is still heavily influenced by his father, Stanley, who also goes by Dave and guides his son's career. His dad believed in home-schooling his children, including Caroline Dubois, herself a world champion boxer. Caroline Dubois ventured away from her father's management almost two years ago, telling The Associated Press in January that she would have been 'in a really bad mental place' had she not left. Riz Khan, Daniel Dubois' manager, praised the father. 'The architect behind the resurgence has clearly been his father, Stan Dubois, who has meticulously hand-picked every single individual, whether it's the coaching team, whether it's the medics, whether it's from a management point of view, so we have all the credentials to support Daniel in the background,' Khan said. Dubois' attempts at trash talking seem more like checking a box rather than natural bravado, like when he cracked a smile after yelling ' And the new! ' in Usyk's face this week. Earlier, there was also a slow-motion shove of Usyk that lacked conviction. Still, he's the same dude he was in the buildup to the Joshua fight, and that was a spectacular success for Dubois. 'I'm a young lion and I've just got to take over and be the man — execute,' he said. © Copyright 2025 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This controversial parenting style leads to kids who excel in school, study reveals

This is smart parenting. An early bedtime or a rigorous chore chart aren't instant guarantees for success, but they're proven steps towards raising a certifiable wunderkind, according got a new study. Advertisement Since 2013, British study SEED has been tracking around 6,000 children across the UK with the aim of exploring how environments — including early education and childcare — impact development. The study tracks how children dealt with different parenting styles, ranging from permissive to authoritarian, and unsurprisingly, the best result appears to be a mix of the two — otherwise known as 'authoritative' parenting. Though 'gentle parenting' — a child-rearing philosophy that emphasizes emotional regulation and healthy boundaries — is all the rage among many Millennial parents, new SEED study findings show that for many children, a 'no' and a few guiding rules may actually be more beneficial. Advertisement According to researchers and study authors, the authoritative parenting style is defined by firm rules and a high level of 'responsiveness,' AKA, a more hands-on, assertive approach. Children who were exposed to an authoritative parenting style were found to have a more 'positive impact on KS2 attainment,' researchers said. In non-British terms, kids aged 7 to 11 experienced more academic growth as a result of their parents' rules and guidelines. Increased hours of guidance in a formal domestic setting (tutors, nannies, etc.) were positively associated with scoring high in science, while increased hours in informal settings (family members, friends, neighbours) were associated with excelling in math. Siphosethu/ – Advertisement The study also found that children who spent at least 10 hours a week in formal group childcare saw increased chances of excelling in reading, writing and math. While authoritative parenting is all about finding a happy medium between gentle and super-strict child-rearing, emotional regulation in parents was a major factor in the method's success. According to the study findings, 'parental psychological distress, a chaotic home life, a more invasive relationship between mother and child, reflecting issues such as the mother feeling in conflict with or annoyed by her child,' all tended to lead towards lower socio-emotional success in elementary school. As the study demonstrated, though setting boundaries and rules for children is developmentally important, being overly demanding or controlling can also be detrimental to a child's success. Advertisement Ego parenting is a common behavior pattern that emerges among parents who are excessively concerned with how their child's skills and progress reflect back on them. Associating a child's worth with their accomplishment can quickly become toxic, experts warn. The study has been extended until 2029, when researchers will collect their final data points and surveys on the core group of kids.
