OPP investigating suspicious death in Bonfield, asks residents to stay alert

Police say officers were called to a residence on Saturday morning on Trunk Road in Bonfield, Ont., where they found one person dead. Officers say they haven't confirmed the cause of death. But they are urging the public to remain on alert and report any recent or ongoing suspicious activity to police. They say residents can expect to see an increased police presence as the investigation continues in the community east of North Bay. Ottawa man dies after falling into the St. Lawrence River

An Ottawa man has died after falling into the St. Lawrence River near Gananoque, Ont., according to Ontario Provincial Police. In a news release Sunday, OPP said their officers got a call just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday that someone had fallen out of a stationary boat on the river. The 20-year-old man likely did not know how to swim and was not wearing a life jacket, according to a police spokesperson. Other people on the boat tried to rescue him, OPP said. The man ended up being underwater for nine minutes before being brought to the surface. First responders tried to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they would not release the man's identity. Their investigation is ongoing. Gananoque is around 30 kilometres northeast of downtown Kingston, Ont.

Two taken to hospital after crash on residential road

A police investigation has been launched after a car crashed into parked vehicles on a residential road. South Wales Police said officers were called to reports of the incident on Coegnant Road, Caerau, Maesteg, at 12:45am on Thursday morning. The force confirmed two people were taken to hospital to be assessed for their injuries. "No arrests have been made but investigations into the cause of the collision continue," it added.
