A serious crash has closed a rural road in North Yorkshire. Emergency services are on the scene between Grantley and Pateley Bridge, near Ripon, on Sunday afternoon (August 10). North Yorkshire Police said the crash happened on a minor road near Skelding which will be closed for 'some time'. The force has urged drivers to avoid the area. A police spokesperson said: 'The road between Grantley and Pateley Bridge is currently closed and is expected to remain closed for some time. 'Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.'

Suspects have been released without charge and a police investigation dropped after a 17-year-old's neck was cut with a knife in Watford. On May 5, the teenage victim was walking along an alleyway between Cassio Road and Exchange Road when he was attacked by three people at around 8.20pm, requiring hospital treatment. Later that week, police arrested two men from London, aged 20 and 21, on suspicion of attempted murder. A third suspect - a 19-year-old woman from Essex - was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as possession of a knife. They were all granted bail until August 2, however a police spokesperson confirmed yesterday (August 7) that no further action has been taken and that "all lines of enquiry have been exhausted". "However, any new information that comes to light will be acted on accordingly", they added. According to police, detectives recorded intelligence, provided the victim with safeguarding and support and made referrals to appropriate at the time, Watford Chief Inspector Andy Wiseman said: 'This incident happened in a busy area, and I know the public witnessed a significant emergency services response. 'Officers arrived at the scene in under five minutes and secured the area. Following a thorough search, they arrested three people a short time later as well as recovering a weapon."
