Miley Cyrus sparks fierce speculation her new song is about 'feud' with Dua Lipa: 'She's so obsessed'

You would think that the power duo that came up with the hit-song Prisoner would be tethered for life (or at least be on cordial terms) but a new song may suggest otherwise. Miley Cyrus just came out with the song Every Girl You've Ever Loved and fans are speculating that the 80s-inspired pop song is about her alleged feud with Dua Lipa. The speculation centers around a few lines in the song: 'She speaks the perfect French / She can dance the night away / And still, she'll never break a sweat.' To some, these could easily be vague references. But others were quick to point out that Lipa fits this description almost exactly. She's shown off her French-speaking skills in a remix of Charli XCX and Troye Sivan 's Talk Talk, and her song Dance the Night from the Barbie soundtrack seems to be clearly referenced. The final line - about not breaking a sweat - has been interpreted in several ways, with some reading it as a subtle dig referencing a viral meme that once poked fun at Lipa's lackluster dancing. There is also the possibility that the lyric reflects a deeper comparison between the two artists. While Lipa is known for her cool, composed stage presence, Cyrus has been more open about the emotional and physical effort she puts into her performances. Some listeners believe the lyric may be less about criticizing Lipa and more about Cyrus examining her own feelings of insecurity or competition. So where would this alleged feud have come from? Though the two haven't had any public issues, it's worth noting that the two haven't collaborated since their 2020 song Prisoner - and haven't publicly interacted much since then. Also, fans noticed that recently Prisoner's song credits were changed. Cyrus is now listed as only the featured artist on the track, even though it was originally hers - and she wrote it. These combined occurrences have caused fans to call Cyrus out for the speculated shade. Fans speculated that the lyrics 'she speaks the perfect French' and 'she can dance the night away' are reference to Lipa 'She's so obsessed I can't,' one X (formerly Twitter) user commented, followed by a crying face emoji. Another user mirrored the sentiment, simply writing, 'obsession.' Some fans were shocked at how obvious the reference seemed to be. 'This actually being the real lyrics lmfao she needs to get over whatever happened between them,' one user wrote. The alleged shade comes at a unique time as Cyrus recently made headlines for finally addressing rumors that her 2023 music video for Flowers was shading Jennifer Lawrence who was said to have a fling with Cyrus' ex-husband Liam Hemsworth. When asked if the video was in reference to Lawrence, Cyrus said, 'No, but I love that dress of hers.' Whether the lyric was intended as shade or not, it has definitely sparked conversation - and any of Cyrus' actions typically do.

Lorde's Anthem of Transformation, and 9 More New Songs

Every Friday, pop critics for The New York Times weigh in on the week's most notable new tracks. Listen to the Playlist on Spotify here (or find our profile: nytimes) and at Apple Music here, and sign up for The Amplifier, a twice-weekly guide to new and old songs. Lorde, 'Man of the Year' 'I've become someone else, someone more like myself,' Lorde sings, somewhere between pride and astonishment, in 'Man of the Year,' the second single from her album due in June, 'Virgin.' It's a crescendo of self-transformation, from quietly plucked cello to full-band stomp, as Lorde seizes the masculinity within herself. In the video clip, she flattens her breasts, taping them down with duct tape; she ponders, 'Who's gonna love me like this?' and then proclaims, 'Now I'm broken open / Let's hear it for the man of the year.' Miley Cyrus featuring Brittany Howard, 'Walk of Fame' 'Walk of Fame,' from 'Something Beautiful,' the new Miley Cyrus album, turns the proverbial morning-after walk of shame into something prouder: 'I walk the concrete like it's a stage.' The song is mostly formulaic disco, thumping away. But the voice of Brittany Howard — adding little responses and wordless overlays, then promising 'You'll live forever'— gives it some gravity. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, 'Urges' Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, an dedicated electronic-pop experimenter, toys with and displaces dance-floor rhythms in 'Urges,' from her coming album, 'Gush.' She whisper-sings 'I keep getting urges / I can't understand them' while brittle programmed syncopations, disembodied voices and distant, tootling arpeggios materialize around her voice; even as the sounds disintegrate, the pulse is danceable. Santana and Grupo Frontera, 'Me Retiro' Two generations of Mexican American musicians — the Texas band Grupo Frontera and the guitarist Carlos Santana — make a natural combination in 'Me Retiro' ('I'm Leaving'), a song about trying to drink away a heartbreak. Santana sits in with the Grupo Frontera band and, rightly, takes over; his guitar slices through the clip-clop beat and accordion chords and compounds the sorrows that Adelaido 'Payo' Solís III sings about. Obongjayar featuring Little Simz, 'Talk Olympics' Obongjayar — Steven Umoh, a Nigerian musician based in London — has a new album, 'Paradise Now,' that's full of inventive, Pan-African electronic grooves like the zippy staccato propulsion of 'Talk Olympics.' With an octave-bouncing bass line and the sounds of balafons, drums, synthesizers and sampled voices, Obongjayar and Little Simz take turns complaining about someone who's far too chatty: 'I let you speak, that was my mistake,' Little Simz notes; Obongjayar adds, in his sweetest falsetto, 'Shut up! Shut up!' Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Addison Rae Gets Ready to Reintroduce Herself in Debut Album Trailer

Addison Rae can't wait to meet you. In just over a week, the singer will share her self-titled debut album, but first she's previewing her grand introduction with an album trailer that operates as an early reintroduction. 'I'm not the same person you used to know,' she says in the clip. The trailer is just over one minute in length and features footage of Rae in the studio while preparing the album, out June 6. 'Whatever this Addison is, I'm really enjoying her,' someone in the studio session tells her, to which she buoyantly responds, 'Really?' The video also goes behind the scenes of photo and video shoots for the visuals attached to the record. The point is, she's priming her audience for a record that brings them along for an unpredictable ride. Earlier this year, Rae played several songs for Rolling Stone ahead of her cover story. They were described as 'hypnotic, trance-like pop songs, pulsating and lush' with an undeniable dance edge. Addison will feature the previously released singles 'Diet Pepsi,' 'Aquamarine,' 'High Fashion,' and 'Headphones On.' 'I really struggle with being like, 'All right, time to be sad and have just a guitar on the song,'' Rae told Rolling Stone. As an artist, the singer is heavily guided by the mood of her music. She landed her deal with Columbia after meeting with the label's CEO armed with only an image-based mood board and a dream. 'I just mood-boarded my vibes,' Rae said. 'I literally had no music to play him at that point, so it was about trust. Like, 'Yes, I'm in the clouds, and I enjoy being there. But I'm also serious.''Best of Rolling Stone The 50 Greatest Eminem Songs All 274 of Taylor Swift's Songs, Ranked The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time

‘Black-listed': Anastacia reveals the moment she realised she'd never achieve success in America

Don't miss out on the headlines from Music. Followed categories will be added to My News. Anastacia has one of the most recognisable voices in the music industry, but heartbreakingly an entire continent never got the chance to experience it. Breaking out in the early 2000s with iconic banger I'm Outta Love, Anastacia quickly became one of the biggest pop stars in the world and she's enjoyed success ever since, and will soon be bringing her sell out NTK25 tour down under. But one place the American's tour won't be visiting is North America, and it's all because record label politics meant that one of the biggest music industry markets on earth never got the chance to get to know Anastacia's vocal talents. 'I'm at that age where I'm fine with what I've got. My resume is beautiful and I'm proud of it,' the feisty singer told 'At the beginning, I felt like what's wrong with me, because I didn't know the reason why.' Anastacia. Picture: Jason Edwards As she prepared to go into the promotional tour for her second record, Anastacia finally realised the incredible success she was experiencing around the world was never going to happen in her home country. 'Then I kind of got an idea of what happened between the radio station and the record company, that it was like a power struggle thing,' she continued. 'And the radio stations made you. The record company made the radio station upset and I was the black-listed name.' 'So it wasn't that I was this rejected artist in America. It was like, they never actually knew me.' She'll be playing four shows later this year in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Picture:. While she was never given the chance to show off her talents in the US, thankfully the rest of the world immediately embraced her powerhouse vocals and ear for a banger. After performing to sell out crowds in Europe, Anastacia has announced that she's bringing her latest tour to Australia later this year. She'll be performing in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in September, with just a handful of tickets left remaining for fans to snap up ahead of the shows. Anastacia's Not That Kind 25 tour starts at The Forum in Melbourne on September 24, before heading to the Coliseum Theatre in Western Sydney on September 26, the Sydney's Enmore Theatre on September 27, before a final show at Brisbane's Eatons Hill Hotel on September 29. Tickets are available here. Originally published as 'Black-listed': Anastacia reveals the moment she realised she'd never achieve success in America
