U.K. Government Approves $51 Billion Sizewell C Nuclear Power Plant
The U.K. government approved the 38 billion-pound ($51.27 billion) Sizewell C nuclear power plant in southeast England, becoming the project's biggest shareholder. The government said Tuesday that it will take an initial 44.9% stake in the 3.2 gigawatt nuclear power station under construction in Suffolk. The other investors include the pension fund La Caisse with a 20% stake, U.K.'s Centrica CNA 3.77%increase; green up pointing triangle with 15%, French energy giant EDF with 12.5% and Amber Infrastructure with an initial 7.6% stake.

UK gives final go-ahead to £38bn Sizewell C nuclear plant
The government has given the final go-ahead for a £38bn nuclear power plant in eastern England. The Sizewell C project in Suffolk will be jointly funded by Canadian pension fund La Caisse, UK energy firm Centrica and Amber Infrastructure. The government said it would be the largest shareholder in the project with a 44.9% stake. La Caisse will hold a 20% stake, Centrica 15% and Amber Infrastructure will take an initial 7.6%. Earlier this month, French energy giant EDF announced it was taking a 12.5% stake, lower than its previously stated 16.2% ownership. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said: "It is time to do big things and build big projects in this country again - and today we announce an investment that will provide clean, homegrown power to millions of homes for generations to come. "This government is making the investment needed to deliver a new golden age of nuclear, so we can end delays and free us from the ravages of the global fossil fuel markets to bring bills down for good."

Vistra's Perry Nuclear Plant Gets 20-Year License Extension, Ensures Operations Through 2046

On July 7, Vistra announced that the company received approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission/NRC to extend the operating license of its 1,268-megawatt Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Ohio through 2046. This extends the plant's operational lifespan by an additional 20 years beyond its original 40-year license, which commenced when it connected to the grid in 1986.
