The number of football-related Crystal Palace fan arrests last season

19 football-related arrests were recorded involving Crystal Palace supporters during the 2024 to 2025 domestic football season, according to new figures released by the Home Office. The arrests were among 1,932 reported across England and Wales during the season – an 11 per cent decrease compared to the previous year. The season, which ran from July 2024 to May 2025, saw incidents recorded at 1,583 matches, an 18 per cent increase in reported incidents year-on-year. Crystal Palace fans were arrested for a range of offences, with the most common being public disorder and possession of Class A drugs. The full list of offences linked to Palace supporters includes: One for violent disorder Five for public disorder One for entering the pitch Two for alcohol offences Two for possession of pyrotechnics One for breach of a banning order Seven for possession of Class A drugs The Home Office said the most common arrest types nationally were public disorder (32 per cent), violent disorder (22 per cent), and possession of Class A drugs (19 per cent). The offence category involving Class A drugs was made a Schedule 1 offence in November 2022, and arrests linked to this offence type have more than doubled since the 2022 to 2023 season. Alcohol-related offences continue to decline, now making up just 8 per cent of all football-related arrests – a notable drop from 34 per cent during the 2010 to 2011 season. Meanwhile, pitch incursions have also fallen to their lowest levels in years, accounting for just 3 per cent of arrests this season. In total, 1,803 of the 1,932 football-related arrests during the season involved fans from clubs in the top six tiers of English football. Crystal Palace, who compete in the Premier League, saw fewer arrests than some top-flight rivals but remain part of wider concerns around fan behaviour and safety. The Home Office and football authorities continue to work closely with clubs and police forces to tackle anti-social behaviour and ensure matches remain safe for all supporters. Wild moment gang of car hoons shuts down one of Australia's busiest nightclub precincts - as crowds out for dinner are choked in tyre smoke

The 'reckless and irresponsible' drivers who swarmed a popular nightclub strip, causing chaos and forcing traffic diversions overnight, are being sought by police. Large crowds gathered on Chapel Street in Melbourne 's inner east from 7pm on Saturday, prompting a significant police presence. The event is believed to have been organised through a public Facebook group, where more than 5000 people had expressed interest in attending. A hospitality worker on shift when the crowd descended said that hundreds of people had packed into the streets. Inspector Georgie Swinton confirmed an operation to address the event was put into action, with multiple traffic diversions implemented to ensure pedestrian safety. Chapel Street is a renowned dining and entertainment precinct, attracting thousands of visitors each week. However, the strip has also been the scene of repeated criminal activity, including firebombings, brawls, stabbings, and more recently, hooning. Footage circulating on social media, and referenced by police, shows drivers performing burnouts. Another video shows people jumping onto a moving tow truck. Insp Swinton described the behaviour as 'reckless and irresponsible'. 'A number of drivers engaged in dangerous driving and we will find those drivers,' she told reporters on Sunday. 'There's footage of one particular driver doing fairly reasonable burnouts. We will identity him, he will be charged and his car will be impounded.' No arrests were made, although defect notices were handed out to several drivers for modified vehicles. Police confirmed there was an influx of calls for assistance, mostly for the loud noise of cars participating in the planned meet. Housing and Building Minister Harriet Shing said the behaviour of the hoon drivers as 'absolutely disgraceful'. 'Safety for people in and around our roads is of paramount importance and anybody who thinks that they can go out and live in such a cavalier fashion should be absolutely condemned,' she told reporters on Sunday. Police have been cracking down on crime at the popular shopping strip, with almost 130 people arrested this year. The City of Stonnington has recently endorsed a new plan for Chapel Street, aimed at enhancing public safety, improving cleanliness, and boosting business and community confidence through a targeted program of actions.

Reckless youths break into swimming pool and cause £1,000s worth of damage

Police have been left "extremely disappointed" after youths broke into a swimming pool in Oxfordshire and caused £1,000s in damages. Thames Valley Police (TVP) say that there have been problems on multiple occasions since the Abbey Meadows Outdoor Pool opened in Abingdon. Alongside a group of youths causing costly damage on the first day of opening, others have since gained access and drunk alcohol underage. The force recently posted an update across their social media channels alongside photographs of the location. (Image: Thames Valley Police) A spokesperson for TVP said: "It was extremely disappointing that on the first day the Abbey Meadows outdoor pool opened in Abingdon, a number of young people decided to gain access after hours, not only to swim but caused several thousands pounds worth of damage. "The group involved were stopped & detained by two Abingdon PCSOs & assisted by their emergency response colleagues. "On a number of occasions since then, access has been gained, where young people are swimming but also drinking alcohol underage. "We have attended either in relation to calls or through our proactive patrols & have managed to gain details of further people involved. "A number of Community Protection Warnings have been written & are in the process of being served. As well as a criminal investigation into the damage." Campaigners again fought to save the pool when it faced closure in 2015, and a petition with more than 2,200 names was handed to council leaders. It reopened in 2018 following a £1.3m refurbishment. Abbey Meadows Outdoor Pool is a popular place to go during the summer months, with more than 15,000 people visiting last year. Yet, as the police warned, problems have been encountered this year at the leisure location since its latest reopening. "We still don't understand the mindset of thinking it is acceptable to cause damage to other people's property, not only that, there is a possibility that a young person may drown. "We definitely don't want to be putting in that door knock to let their parents or guardians know. "Please talk to your children about the dangers & work with us to prevent this."

Manchester United had most fans arrested of any professional club in England and Wales last season

Manchester United had the most fans arrested of all professional clubs in England and Wales last season, according to Home Office data. The 121 arrests of United supporters is more than 25% higher than that of their rivals Manchester City - who are in second place with 94 arrests. West Ham, which had the highest number of fans arrested in each of the previous three seasons, are in third place with 77 supporters arrested during the 2024/25 campaign. Chelsea are in fourth place with 76 supporters arrested while Aston Villa are in fifth with 71. All arrests relate to men's football. Of the Man United arrests, 49% came during home games - with 34 of them for public or violent disorder. It comes as the number of football-related arrests last season dropped from to 1,932 from 2,584 during the 2023/24 campaign, the Home Office data for both seasons shows. It marks the first drop since fans returned to stadiums after the COVID-19 pandemic. The figures relate to matches involving English and Welsh clubs in the top six tiers of men's football in England - from the Premier League down to the National League North/South divisions. The most common arrest type this season was public disorder (32%) - an offence used to describe acts of violence or intimidation in public. The percentage of arrests for possession of Class A drugs was the highest since it became a Schedule 1 offence in November 2022, up to 19% from an initial 9% in 2022-23. The number of matches with reported incidents increased however by 18%, from 1,341 to 1,583. A total of 2,439 banning orders were in force as of 1 June 2025, an increase of 12% compared with the end of the previous season, and the highest number in force since the end of the 2012/13 season. Banning orders prevent individuals from attending matches in the UK and individuals subject to orders can be ordered to hand over their passports to police before overseas matches and tournaments. West Ham had the most supporters with a banning order in force at the end of last season, up from 93 to 112. Manchester United were second with 108, up from 89. Chelsea's increase from 54 to 80 moved them up from eighth at the end of 2023/24 to third by June 2025. The most common reported incidents were related to hate crime - reported at 420 of the 1,583 matches where at least one incident was reported. Of those hate crime reports, 287 incidents related to race, 140 to sexual orientation, 20 to religion, 19 to disability and three to gender identity. The number of hate crime reports at matches was up from 341 in 2023/24, and was the highest on record within the Home Office data provided which goes back to the 2017/18 season. The number of online hate crimes recorded in connection to football decreased from 322 in 2023/24 to 212 last season. Policing minister Dame Diana Johnson said: "Police up and down the country work incredibly hard to ensure football stadiums are safe, so we can all enjoy our national game. "Today's statistics show that these efforts are paying off and strong action is being taken to stop violence and disorder from ruining football.
