Missouri lands five-star G Jason Crowe Jr., No. 4 in '26
July 19 - Missouri landed five-star guard Jason Crowe Jr., a consensus top-five player in the Class of 2026. Crowe, a 6-foot-3 lefty combo guard from Inglewood (Calif.) High School, widely was considered a cinch for Southern California until Missouri and Kentucky entered the picture earlier in the summer. The Tigers made their initial scholarship offer in June. Kentucky also was a contender. Crowe's father was a teammate of current Wildcats assistant Jason Hart. "Coach (Dennis) Gates is a phenomenal coach and person, and his staff are great people," Crowe said. "Our first conversation happened during the USA tryouts. He was really genuine. We talked about family and connected on a meaningful level. Coach Gates is a family-first person. On the court, he's high-energy and competitive." Crowe is first in scoring in the Nike EYBL with an average of 23.6 points per game. He would become the highest-rated recruit to attend Missouri since Michael Porter Jr. (2017) and Linas Kleiza (2013) should he remain committed to the Tigers for the next year. --Field Level Media

CBS Sports ranks Michigan football 14th in blue-chip ratio, poised for another big run
Generally, you can somewhat predict what teams will produce each season based on the talent they have at prominent positions. The mix between talent, experience, coaching decisions, the schedule, the previous year's success or failure, and more goes into how prognosticators look at teams, but CBS Sports is looking specifically at the first category as it assesses the 'blue-chip ratio' entering the 2025 season. Unsurprisingly, at the top are the teams that perennially recruit better than the others on paper -- Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia comprise Bud Elliott's top three with percentages ranging from 84% to 89%. Michigan football comes in ranked 14th with a blue-chip ratio of 57% -- a number that may seem low, however, Elliott points out that the Wolverines won the 2023 national championship with a ratio of 54%. It's commendable that Elliott has the maize and blue on the list. Because Michigan will tend to be something of an outlier, as a program that tends to get more out of less. Part of it is because of the coaching, but from a schematic standpoint, the Wolverines play a different brand of football than most of the field. Tabbed 'the boa constrictor' by PJ Fleck and Joel Klatt, Michigan isn't trying to outpace its opponents -- it's trying to squeeze the life out of them. Even with second-year head coach Sherrone Moore at the helm, that's just as true as when the team was led by Jim Harbaugh. Whether or not Michigan gets similar results to 2021-23 remains to be seen. It will be incumbent on the offense to find some semblance of a passing attack, and the defense to look similar to how it finished the year in 2024. The teams that precede Michigan include the aforementioned trio, Texas A&M, Oregon, Texas, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Miami, Florida, and Auburn. But, as you can note, about a third of those haven't exactly had the resounding success that the Wolverines have in recent memory. Ohio State recruiting expert reveals details on Jakob Witherspoon misleading program, how much North Carolina spent to flip him
It seems that stud high school recruit Jakob Witherspoon kept Ohio State in the dark about the threat of North Carolina luring him away. This hasn't been the sort of recruiting year OSU hoped for. While they have the ninth-best recruiting class in the country, they have missed on some big talents. One example of that happened this week when four-star defensive back Jakob Witherspoon decommitted and instead chose to take his talents to the Tar Heels to play for Bill Belichick. It was another stunning example of the program not being able to keep a talented prospect from Ohio. On Friday, OSU recruiting expert Jeremy Birmingham was on The Fan 97.1's 'T-Bone and Tyvis' and offered up new details on recent 'red flags' surrounding Witherspoon. Related: 'He's a kid who grew up dreaming of playing for Ohio State. He was one of the earliest commitments in this class. He plays a position of need. Is a guy they really prioritized over the last year. But there were signs they could have paid a little bit more attention to,' Birmingham said. 'Sometimes, when it comes to in-state prospects, they just brush them off. 'He did make a couple of visits to North Carolina and Penn State. Did it without telling the Ohio State staff. And from what I understand, when he was asked about it, he was not entirely truthful about taking the visits,' he added. 'That was a red flag that Ohio State had several concerns about. They had conversations with Jacob and his group last month when he was in town for his official visit. But they felt like they had cleared that hurdle. ' North Carolina offered half a million more than Ohio State to flip Jakob Witherspoon? Without a doubt, playing for the legendary NFL coach likely played a role in Witherspoon's decision. However, in the era of NIL and schools now having to pay players, Birmingham claimed it simply came down to cold, hard cash. And the Tar Heels were willing to pay much more. 'It does come down to NIL in a number of ways,' said Birmingham. 'Ohio State will not prioritize players the same way North Carolina or Purdue will, or any school that is trying to get its way out of the middle of the pack. '… I've heard. And I can't verify it. The people I've heard from, I trust. But I've heard the difference in dollar amount is somewhere close to half a million dollars for one year,' he revealed. 'For a player who is not going to play at Ohio State next year. It is difficult to justify spending that kind of money on a player who is not going to play for two years.' Missouri lands top-10 recruit Jason Crowe Jr. as Dennis Gates' personal ties pay off
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — In 2002, Jason Crowe was a training camp invitee with the Los Angeles Clippers. That same summer, Dennis Gates had caught the attention of the Clippers coaching staff by working out Quentin Richardson, Corey Maggette and some of the young Clippers stars, and the Clips hired him as a skill development coach. Crowe, who did not make the roster, never forgot the presence Gates had as a 22-year-old new coach. NEWS: 5⭐️ Jason Crowe Jr has committed to Missouri, he tells @TheAthleticCBB On the EYBL circuit he's averaging 23.8 points, 3 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game — Tobias Bass (@tobias_bass) July 18, 2025 'I was able to just watch him, the style of play, the method of coaching, the way he deals with young men,' Crowe said. 'He was a good man, so I was very fortunate he reached out.' Crowe's very talented son, five-star guard Jason Crowe Jr., committed to Missouri on Friday, becoming the second-highest-ranked recruit in Tigers history. He's the highest-ranked since Michael Porter Jr. in 2017. Crowe announced the commitment from the Nike EYBL Peach Jam on his birthday. Advertisement Missouri beat out Kentucky and local schools USC and UCLA for the Inglewood, Calif., product. Crowe, the sixth-ranked player in the Class of 2026 according to the 247Sports Composite, is one of the best shooters in this class and is leading EYBL in scoring at 27 points per game this summer. This is a big addition for the Tigers, who will be a fringe Top 25 team this preseason. Missouri's 2026-27 starting backcourt could potentially be Crowe, Anthony Robinson II (9.0 points, 3.5 assists per game last season) and UCLA transfer Sebastian Mack (9.6 points per game). The Tigers will be losing Mark Mitchell in the frontcourt, but that backcourt is a great starting spot for another Top 25 team. The Tigers have reached two NCAA Tournaments in Gates' three seasons as coach, including a 22-12 record and No. 6 seed this past year (Missouri lost to No. 11 Drake in the first round).
