A1 overnight closures at Water Newton for southbound repairs
Part of the A1 will be closed overnight so preparation can begin to repair a carriageway and culvert damaged in a fatal accident last year. The southbound carriageway will be fully closed from the A47 to the Alwalton junction from 21:00 BST to 05:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Diversions will be put in place. Lane one of the carriageway over Billing Brook at Water Newton, near Peterborough, has been closed since Daniel Casariu, from Luton, died at the scene on 1 November."The damaged culvert is over 100 years old, so carrying out permanent repairs continues to be a complex challenge," said Simon Amor, from National Highways. "Our thoughts continue to go out to the family and friends of Daniel Casariu, who tragically passed away following the collision." The outside lane of the northbound carriageway will also be closed during the overnight Highways planned to do preparation work to realign the southbound carriageway and hoped the road would be fully reopened over the coming months. The project was considered complex due to a large water main near the road and the brook, which ran into a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It was also close to the remains of a Roman Amor, the agency's head of delivery, said: "We understand the impact the lane closure is having on motorists and nearby communities. "We thank everyone for their continued patience while this challenging work is undertaken." Follow Cambridgeshire news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.

Derailment in Abbotsford, B.C., closes road near Sumas border
ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford, B.C., say a train derailment has forced the closure of 4th Avenue near the Canada-U.S. border crossing. The department initially posted an advisory around 11 p.m. Thursday about the closure and to ask drivers to avoid the area. It says in the updated post on Friday that the closure will remain "for a considerable amount of the day until heavy equipment is brought in to deal with the train cars." Water main break expected to close Baltimore County road for 2 days, officials say
A water main break reported in Hunt Valley Friday could prompt a two-day road closure, according to the Baltimore County Department of Public Works (DPW). Contractors responded to the water main break around 11 a.m. on Friday on York Road between Ashland and Schilling roads. The section of York Road is closed for emergency repairs, officials said. WJZ was on the scene as water gushed into parking lots on both sides of York Road. The incident caused flooding along the road. One restaurant owner told WJZ that she sent her customers and employees away after she lost water. While the Baltimore region usually sees an uptick in water main breaks during freezing temperatures, a variety of other factors can also cause breaks. In January, DPW responded to nearly a dozen water main breaks in one day. According to live DPW maps, there are currently 10 water main issues in the region, including two in Baltimore County. Data shows the water main has been shut down since the break was reported.
