Kings of Leon cancel UK and European shows after singer's ‘freak accident'

Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill has announced that the band have cancelled their UK and European shows this summer after he injured his foot in a 'freak accident'. The singer, who is part of the US rock group with his brothers Nathan and Jared Followill and cousin Matthew Followill, was scheduled to perform at Blackweir Fields, Cardiff and Lancashire's Lytham festival over the next two months. Followill said on Wednesday that his shattered heel injury was 'serious' and needed 'significant emergency surgery that will prevent him from travelling and performing'. The singer, 43, posted a video to the band's Instagram account, saying: 'Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that those (European) shows will have to be cancelled due to a freak accident that happened the other day, broke my foot pretty bad, just playing with my kids, it's pretty gnarly, I'll spare (you) all the details. 'But we're fortunate enough to have some great doctors here in Nashville that gave me emergency surgery, and I'm on the mend, but they've told me that I can't be on my feet or travelling or anything for the next eight weeks or so. 'And that's a big bummer, man, we were so excited, we've been preparing for this tour for a long time. 'We've been preparing for a lot of things, we've been in the studio recording, we have a bunch of new songs, we were going to debut a few of them on this run, we had a lot of exciting things planned, and now we're just going to have to pivot.' The Nashville four-piece are best known for the songs Sex on Fire, Use Somebody and Notion. The band said in a statement: 'The anticipated recovery process is expected to take eight weeks, under strict guidance of expert orthopaedic specialists. The band regrets to report that they will need to cancel all upcoming UK and European festival headline shows in June and July of this year.' Blackweir Fields and Lytham festival said they would refund customers who had paid to see the group. Lytham festival said: 'Due to the cancellation of the Kings of Leon dates in June and July, we are sad to announce that they will no longer be performing at Lytham festival on Wednesday 2 July. 'We wish Caleb a speedy recovery. Having explored all possibilities for a replacement act, it has not been possible at this late stage and therefore Lytham festival 2025 will now run for four days from the 3-6 July 2025.' Blackweir said it was 'sad' that the show on 29 June had been cancelled.

Carlisle dancer to perform at American rock band's Glasgow gig

A CARLISLE dancer is set to perform at a US rock band's upcoming gig in Glasgow. Amy McLuckie will perform in Glasgow as part of American rock band Steel Panther's gig at the O2 Academy on Monday, June 16. The comedic metal band from Los Angeles, California, boasts millions of streams, with their hit song 'Eyes of a Panther' sitting at nearly 35 million streams on Spotify. Steel Panther (Image: Jo Sainz) Amy, a passionate aerial dancer, is also the owner of a Carlisle-based dance studio, The Aerial Coven, which she opened in 2019. Ahead of her performance with Steel Panther, Amy spoke to the News & Star about her passion for all things aerial dancing. She said: "I took a lesson one day and was absolutely hooked. "Two years later, I decided to open a pole studio, and I absolutely love it. "I love teaching it, and I think it is really empowering. Amy McLuckie (Image: Supplied) "It is really fun, so it is work that is really enjoyable as well." Amy's performance alongside Steel Panther in Glasgow will also be her first-ever performance outside of her Carlisle dance studio, with the local business owner describing her nerves ahead of the gig. She said: "I saw that Steel Panther had opened up applications for pole dancers to go on stage with them, and I absolutely love the band. "I applied, and about a month later, I got an email that said that I had been selected for the Glasgow show, and I was absolutely shocked. (Image: Supplied) "I am so excited but I am quite nervous though. I'll be dancing to three songs whilst they're doing their set list. "I love performing, and I compete a lot because there are not many opportunities to perform, so it's nice that the first performance I will do will be on stage with a big band."

Paedo teacher Jeremy Forrest, 42, kisses and hugs new girlfriend 15 years his junior in park after ditching second wife

PAEDO teacher Jeremy Forrest has been spotted kissing and hugging his new girlfriend in a park. The 42-year-old former maths tutor shared a public display of affection with 27-year-old Jessica Amos at a park in Kent. 5 5 He is thought to have met Jessica when she began working in his team at a bakery owned by his cousin. The lovebirds - who both wore glasses and dressed casually - were spotted staring into each other's eyes before sharing a smooch. Forrest was then seen walking hand in hand with Jessica as they shared a laugh together. In April, Forrest was seen out shopping for underwear and summer clothing with Jessica. In 2012, Forrest, then 30, triggered an international manhunt when he disappeared with a pupil, aged 15, from Eastbourne, East Sussex. He was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in jail and placed on the sex offender register for life after being found guilty of abducting and having sex with the pupil. Police found them in Bordeaux, France. Forrest was wed at the time, but was ditched by first wife Emily after the scandal emerged. He got hitched again after being released from prison — where he trained as a baker — and had been living with his second wife in Canterbury before falling for Jessica. He has now left the marital home. Forrest, who is also the front man in a rock band, is now believed to be living with his brother and sister-in-law close to the shop in Sidcup, Kent. A close source told The Sun previously told how he had fallen for Jessica a few months ago. They had been keeping their romance under wraps because of their positions at work and "the fact he is married". The source added: "Jeremy leads the confectioners, so effectively, he was Jessica's superior." A member of staff at J Ayre bakery confirmed Forrest had left his wife and said: "He is divorcing. He's met someone else." Forrest and his new partner — who reportedly had no knowledge of his dark past — are said to have spent months sneaking away from work for secret romantic liaisons. He allegedly reassured her he was planning on divorce. But rumours of their affair have caused turmoil at the family bakers, with managers holding a meeting and suggesting Jessica move to another part of the business. However, she reportedly decided she could no longer work there and quit her job. Forrest was sacked from another bakers in 2023 after bosses discovered his past. The firm said the truth came as a shock to their close-knit team.

‘I was fired': Drummer for legendary rock band refused to say he quit before farewell tour

A legendary rock band has fired its drummer for a second time prior to its farewell tour. The Who's guitarist, Pete Townshend, announced the split on Sunday via Instagram, stating that Starkey would not be joining the band for their 'The Song is Over North America Farewell Tour.' 'After many years of great work on drums from Zak, the time has come for a change. A poignant time,' Townshend wrote on Instagram. 'Zak has lots of new projects in hand and I wish him the best.' In a counter-statement also posted on Instagram, Starkey called Townshend's announcement a lie. 'I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit The Who to pursue my other musical endeavors‚" Starkey wrote. 'This would be a lie. I love The Who and would never had quit. So I didn't make the statement... quitting The Who would also have let down the countless amazing people who stood up for me...' Starkey clarified that although he does have other projects, it would not have interfered with the tour and cited other points in time when he would balance both plans, from the 1990s through 2020. 'None of this has ever interfered with The Who and was never a problem for them,' Starkey said. 'The lie is or would have been that I quit The Who-I didn't. I love The Who and everyone in it.' Starkey was initially fired in April following a 'huge fall out' that originated during The Who's two Royal Albert Hall shows in March, according to The Sun. A review of the band's March gig in the Metro implied that Daltrey openly bashed Starkey's performance while on stage. While performing 'The Song Is Over,' Daltrey stopped and said, 'To sing that song I do need to hear the key, and I can't. All I've got is drums going boom, boom, boom. I can't sing to that. I'm sorry guys,'' according to the review. Starkey, who is the son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and Maureen Starkey said in a statement to Rolling Stone in April that he was 'surprised and saddened anyone would have an issue with my performance that night.' The drummer even said his playing has been unaffected by 'a serious medical emergency with blood clots in my right bass drum calf' that he experienced in January. Starkey returned to The Who shortly after the initial announcement in April; the band cited 'communication issues' as the reason for his leave, according to a statement from The Who. Although the farewell tour was expected to have Starkey in it, a replacement has already been found. 'Scott Devours who has worked with Roger's solo band will join The Who for our Final shows,' Townshend said on Instagram. 'Please welcome him.' 'The Song Is Over North America Farewell Tour' will feature 16 shows, including a concert at Fenway Park in Boston on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Classic rock band losing longtime lead singer: ‘It's time to pass the mic'

A classic rock band is losing its lead singer after 20 years. Kelly Hansen, the longtime lead singer for Foreigner, announced his exit from the band during an appearance on NBC's 'The Voice' on Tuesday night, May 20. The singer will leave the band at the end of the group's 2025 summer tour. 'Being the voice of Foreigner has been one of the greatest honors of my life,' Hansen said during Foreigner's appearance on 'The Voice' Tuesday. 'But it's time to pass the mic.' Hansen, who has been Foreigner's lead singer since 2005, will be replaced by guitarist Luis Maldonado. The guitarist took over lead vocals for Foreigner's recent Latin American tour dates, which Hansen missed due to 'residency issues.' 'Luis has the voice, the energy, and the soul to carry these songs into the future,' Hansen said. 'I couldn't be prouder to hand this off to him.' Foreigner co-founder and guitarist Mick Jones thanked Hansen and praised Maldonado, a former guitarist for Train, for keeping the band going. 'Kelly Hansen is one of the best front men in our business and over the last twenty years he has breathed new life into our songs,' Jones said in a statement. 'His boundless energy and flawless talent has helped us climb the mountain and set up the opportunity for Foreigner vocalist and guitarist, Luis Maldonado, to bring us home. I wish Kelly great happiness in his next endeavors after our summer tour, and I look forward to welcoming Luis to his new position. Luis was my choice as a guitarist and he has already shown us what he can do on lead vocals by fronting the band in South America to incredible reviews.' Jones is the only original Foreigner member still permanently in the group, though he no longer performs due to Parkinson's disease. The touring lineup currently includes Hansen, Maldonado, Jeff Pilson, Michael Bluestein, Bruce Watson, and Chris Frazier. Geordie Brown, who played the male lead in a 2018 workshop production of 'Juke Box Hero, the Musical,' will replace Hansen on the band's new Canadian tour dates this fall. Foreigner added the 13 new dates after starting the tour in 2023. Brown performed 'Hot Blooded' with Foreigner during the band's 2019 appearance in Halifax and was also at Foreigner's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2024. Brown will also reprise his role in 'Jukebox Hero' for its upcoming 2026 run. The band plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year with special appearances by original lead singer Lou Gramm, including launching anew musical ('Feels Like The First Time - The Foreigner Musical') in New York. Gramm was also a 'guest' vocalist for Foreigner's past Latin American shows. Gramm is known for powerhouse vocals on Foreigner's hits 'I Want to Know What Love Is,' 'Hot Blooded,' 'Feels Like the First Time,' 'Waiting for a Girl Like You' and 'Cold As Ice.' The singer left Foreigner in 1990 and again in 2002, but has periodically reunited with the band, including at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in October. He also made a surprise appearance at a Foreigner concert in Florida earlier this month. Gramm announced his retirement from touring last year. His final concert is expected to be a hometown show with the Lou Gramm All-Stars at Batavia Downs on Aug. 1. The band's upcoming tour dates include an Aug. 5 show at South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset and Sept. 21 at The Big E.
