Soap star Alan Fletcher says Neighbours is finishing ‘at its peak'

Actor Alan Fletcher said Neighbours is coming to an end while the Australian soap is 'at its peak'. The programme had its final day of filming earlier this month after its two-year Prime Video revival which followed it being dropped from broadcast by Channel 5 in 2022. Fletcher, 68, who has played Dr Karl Kennedy for 30 years, said it is 'fair to say' he is now more famous in the UK than Australia due to the popularity of the show here. He told ITV's Good Morning Britain (GMB): 'It's extremely popular. It sits in the top five programmes (on Amazon). View this post on Instagram A post shared by Neighbours (@neighbours) 'Amazon gave us an extra 400 episodes, and we are eternally grateful. 'I have to say to you, when we finished filming, rather than the sadness we had the first time, I sat back and thought, 'Do you know what? We've been given the opportunity to make the best Neighbours we ever could have made'. 'That's where we finished up. I reckon Neighbours is at its peak.' The cast wrapped filming on July 11 at Nunawading Studios and the soap's final broadcast after 40 years will be in December. The programme, which launched the careers of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Margot Robbie and Guy Pearce among others, has followed the lives of people living and working in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough since 1985. Neighbours was dropped by Channel 5 in 2022 after it failed to secure new funding, with a finale episode in July that year attracting an average audience of 2.5 million when several well-known characters returned to the show to say goodbye. The soap's return was announced in late 2022, with a social media clip featuring some of the characters being told the news. In February this year it was announced the programme would end after reports production company Fremantle failed to secure a deal with Amazon.

A 40p bathroom staple will get rid of ‘invasive' caterpillars destroying your garden this summer

A BATHROOM staple that sells for only 40p at stores will protect your garden from "invasive" caterpillars. The everyday item is a surprising repellent against the insects that destroy box hedging and topiary plants. 1 Gardeners have been warned to watch out for the box tree moth caterpillar. The caterpillars, which are the larvae of the box tree moth, eat the leaves and bark of box trees. In only a few days, they may turn once-beautiful bushes dark, barren, and beyond rescuing. Ecology specialists at Arbtech have alerted gardeners that the number of caterpillars peak in July and August. 40p solution But a 40p hack can help keep the pests away from your garden. A simple bar of soap from Sainsbury's can prevent caterpillars from ruining your plants. An unscented bar acts as a repellent as many insects dislike the scent and residue that soap leaves behind. Simply leave a bar of soap near your plants or rub residue on leaves to keep insects at bay. Soapy water also works wonders as it dries out caterpillars' outer layer, leading them to die from dehydration. For households with children or pets, soap is a low-risk alternative to chemical pesticides, and when used properly, it is less likely to damage pollinators. Alan Titchmarsh's top 7 plants that 'transform ugly fences with gorgeous flowers & fragrance' & they grow for years Experts' warning Infestations can be disastrous if left untreated with severely affected plants having to be uprooted and replaced completely. An ecologist from Arbtech told Tivy Side: 'Box tree moth caterpillars might look harmless, but they're an invasive species that can strip a healthy plant in no time - and because they often feed from the inside out, many people don't realise there's a problem until it's too late. 'Box hedging is hugely popular in British gardens, so this species is having a serious impact not just aesthetically, but financially too. 'We're urging homeowners to check their plants regularly over the summer months. "Look for tell-tale signs like webbing, leaf loss, or green-and-black striped caterpillars.'

EastEnders legend set to make shock return to Walford after 11 years - weeks after two other iconic characters confirm their return to screens

EastEnders favourite Nicholas Bailey will make a shock return as Dr. Anthony Trueman to the soap, more than a decade since he was last seen in Walford. The character – son of Patrick Trueman (played by Rudolph Walker) – will be back on screens in scenes to air in the summer. Anthony first arrived on the Square in 2000 and quickly made waves, thanks in part to a steamy romance with Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace). Now, 11 years on from his last stint, the GP is set for a dramatic reunion with his dad this summer as Patrick and Yolande prepare to tie the knot. Anthony last appeared in Eastenders in 2014 when he rushed to his father's side when Patrick suffered a stroke. Since then, he has led a life away from Walford but in upcoming scenes viewers will see he is invited to his father's impending nuptials and decides to return for the occasion. In a post on the official Eastenders Instagram account, the long running soap teased the visit to Walford comes at a significant moment for Patrick, which means Anthony stays longer than he originally intended. In a statement, executive producer Ben Wadey said: 'It's great to welcome Nicholas back to the EastEnders family to reunite Patrick with his son. 'But Anthony's plan for a brief return to surprise his father ends up with him staying longer than he expected when he uncovers what has been going on in the Trueman household.' Nicholas who will reprise the iconic role added: 'It is an unexpected treat to return to EastEnders and I'm full of gratitude to get the opportunity to revisit the character of Anthony. 'It's wonderful to work with Rudolph Walker again - he's such a big part of my journey as an actor and I loved filming my first scenes with him after so long. 'I'm excited to see what the passage of time has done to Anthony and explore his relationship with Patrick at this stage in their lives.' Fans took to the comment section to share their excitement for the new return and penned: 'Bring him back for longer. He was a good actor and good for the show.' 'Fantastic news. I'm loving this new era' 'OMG!!!!!! I can't wait for this he's aged like fine wine'; 'Wow, this is now getting so good'. MailOnline has contacted Eastenders representatives for comment The return of Dr. Trueman comes hot on the heels of other major soap comebacks. Michelle Ryan recently reprised her role as Zoe Slater after two decades away, and Jake Wood is set to return as Max Branning in explosive future scenes. The British actor, 52, who last appeared on screen in February 2021, said he is 'over the moon to be coming home to Walford'. He said: 'I'm over the moon to be coming home to Walford. Max has got lots of unresolved drama with many characters, so I'm sure he'll be busy. 'I'm excited to see what he's been up to, and what is next for the character, but if his last 15 years in the Square are anything to go by, I'm sure there will be plenty of chaos.' Max is reportedly set to return to the BBC soap in autumn, before making a permanent return later in the year. During his first stint on the soap, Jake became a fan favourite amongst viewers, with his character Max being at the heart of several huge storylines. The 2007 Christmas Day episode where it was revealed that Max had an affair with his daughter-in-law Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) has become known as one of the most chaotic festive specials ever. Michelle, 40, best known for her iconic 'You ain't my mother!' moment, made her first appearance in June, after her return was kept under wraps. On the return the episode hadn't been released on BBC iPlayer at 6am that morning, meaning all viewers had to tune into the evening broadcast, where Zoe's return was unveiled.
