Franchón Crews-Dezurn faces Citlalli Ortiz on Friday in world championship bout

Franchón Crews-Dezurn will defend her WBC super-middleweight title on Friday against Mexican-American challenger Citlalli Ortiz. Crews-Dezurn, 9-2 (2), will be defending her title over ten rounds at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York, in a bout that will be broadcast live and exclusive on DAZN. The event will take place as part of this weekend's induction at the International Boxing Hall of Fame. In 2023, Crews-Dezurn made her way to England where she lost a majority decision at the Manchester Arena to Savannah Marshall. After that, she made her way back to the US, where she won the vacant WBC title in December 2023 against Shadasia Green. Catch all the latest boxing action on DAZN Crews-Dezurn's other loss came when making her debut against Claressa Shields in 2016. That fight saw her lose a unanimous decision over four rounds. This weekend's fight marks the first defence of her title. Her opponent, Ortiz, 4-1 (1), last fought in July 2023 when she outpointed Jordanne Garcia in Albuquerque, New Mexico. So far, Ortiz's only loss has been an eight-round split decision against Diana Tapia Castro in their 2022 rematch. A professional since 2021, Ortiz won her first three fights before that loss to Tapia Castro in March 2022. She then fought her most-recent fight, against Garcia, in July 2023. Ortiz's Instagram profile indicates that she was a six-time Mexican national champion during her amateur career, alongside being a seven-time US national champion. She also won medals at the Pan-American and Central American Games and was a world youth champion in 2017. Her amateur record is indicated to have been 27-6 (3). According to the WBC's official rankings, Ortiz is currently ranked eighth within the organisation behind Raquel Miller, Lani Daniels, Shadasia Green, Melinda Watpool, Lina Tejada, Bolatito Oluwole, and Elin Cederroos. Interestingly, neither Crews-Dezurn nor Ortiz are ranked within BoxRec for their weight class due to inactivity. The top-ranked female at super-middleweight, according to the site, is Shadasia Green, 15-1 (11), followed by Hanna Gabriels, 22-2-1 (13); Melinda Watpool, 7-1 (2); Adriana Dos Santos Araujo, 6-3 (1); and Wendy Gcado, 4-1-1 (0). Callum Simpson To Take On 'Knockout King' Ivan Zucco

Callum Simpson To Take On 'Knockout King' Ivan Zucco originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Prepare yourself for a night to remember in Barnsley, local boy Simpson will put his unbeaten, i.e., perfect record, on the line. Advertisement Simpson will face off against Italian knockout artist Ivan Zucco for the European super middleweight title at Oakwell Stadium. The eagerly awaited match is scheduled to happen on June 7th, 2025, and the confirmed venue of the match is Oakwell Football Ground, Barnsley. This is much more than a fight - it's a homecoming party. Simpson sold out this venue in 48 hours last summer when winning the British and Commonwealth titles - such a unique feat for local talent. Simpson returns now with over 15,000 fans expected to fill the football stadium as they urge on their hero. Simpson enters at 17-0 with 12 knockouts, however, he has never fought a fighter quite like Zucco before. The 29-year-old Italian is a southpaw pounder and has stopped 18 men as part of 21 bouts. Advertisement "Callum must be careful, I have a very powerful punch," said Ivan Zucco to the press during a promotional visit at Barnsley, England, in May 2025. What makes this exciting is that either man can end the match with one punch. Simpson yearns to become the first Barnsley-born fighter to win a European title, while Zucco envisions taking the belt back to Italy. The winner is offered more than bragging rights, yet the potential to step closer towards a world title shot. Simpson has already outlined his ambition to "fight for world honours," and beating an undefeated knockout artist like Zucco would certainly get noticed. As with every boxing promotion, there is one guarantee - somebody is losing their undefeated record on June 7th. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 1, 2025, where it first appeared.

Caleb Plant Vs. Armando Resendiz: Odds, Records, Prediction

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - NOVEMBER 06: Canelo Alvarez punches Caleb Plant (L) during their championship ... More bout for Alvarez's WBC, WBO and WBA super middleweight titles and Plant's IBF super middleweight title at MGM Grand Garden Arena on November 06, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by) After losing two of his past four fights, Caleb Plant wants to prove on Saturday that he's still one of the best super middleweights in the world and that he can still compete for a world title. Armando Resendiz wants to prove that he also belongs in the 168-pound title picture. Here's everything you need to know about Caleb Plant vs. Armando Resendiz, including the odds, their records and a prediction on who will win. Plant has only lost to the best at 168 pounds (Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez), and at the age of 32, he must figure he's still got time to reclaim a super middleweight belt (he held one from 2019-2021). He's also looking to impress enough on Saturday that he'll get the chance for a big-money fight against Jermall Charlo, who's fighting journeyman Thomas LaManna on the undercard. 'First things first and that's handling business on May 31,' Plant said. 'If Charlo can handle his business, or whatever happens in the co-main event, I'm looking for that winner . . . If he's able to handle business, me and Charlo can run it . . . What I crave is to be a winner and a champion. I want to cement my legacy and show my children firsthand what it looks like to work hard at something. Have I fallen short a couple of times? Yeah, but I did it with integrity and the way a warrior would do it. If you fall short, you dust yourself off and you keep going.' Resendiz knows about dusting himself off. He's lost twice in his seven-year career, and although he seems to have a powerful punch, he's never faced a top-notch fighter who's in his prime. 'He's looking to seize his big moment and I remember what it was like when I had my big moment and how badly I wanted it,' Plant said. I'm expecting him to come in guns blazing. But we've got something for him.' Resendiz has confidence, though—especially since he's been working with respected trainer Manny Robles. "[That's] Here's more info on the Caleb Plant vs. Armando Resendiz showdown that U.S. viewers can watch on Amazon Video (free with Prime subscription) beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - SEPTEMBER 30: Elijah Garcia (green/tan trunks) trades punches with Armando ... More Resendiz of Mexico (red trunks) during their middleweight fight at T-Mobile Arena on September 30, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by) At -2500 (bet $2,500 to win $100), Plant is the massive betting favorite vs. Residenz, while the Mexico native is the +1100 underdog (win $1,100 on a $100 wager). Neither money line has much value, but I wouldn't mind you taking Plant to win by decision at +210. If you were looking for a fun parlay for this weekend's action of boxing (and this is only for entertainment purposes), I might take Plant to beat Residenz by decision at +210, Jermall Charlo to beat Thomas LaManna by decision at+140 and Yoenli Hernandez to beat Kyrone Davis at -650. If all those hit, you'd win $758 on a $100 wager. Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) hasn't been extremely active, fighting just once in 2022, 2023 and 2024. He's also only won half of his last four fights (falling to Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez). But at the age of 32, he still could have several more years of fighting at a high level, and he already owns wins vs. Jose Uzcategui and Anthony Dirrell. The highlight of Resendiz's seven-year career was a TKO upset victory in 2023 vs. former unified champion Jarrett Hurd, who went in to that bout as a 6/1 betting favorite. Six months later, Resendiz got an opportunity to face prospect Elijah Garcia, but he was stopped in the eighth round. Now, Resendiz is coming off a victory vs. an opponent who was 5-2. Plant has plenty to fight for, but I don't think he's going to be super aggressive against a relatively unknown Resendiz who seems to have a good punch and a decent-enough chin. Plant is a strong technical boxer, and he'll be content to rack up the points en route to a fairly easy win. Say Plant by decision, somewhere in the 118-110 range.

Canelo vs Scull: Former world champions make their predictions for undisputed title fight

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez will make his bid to become a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - taking on the IBF champion William Scull live on DAZN PPV . What have some of boxing's most respected voices been saying about this fight in the build-up? Roy Jones Jr Roy Jones Jr appeared on the Ring Champs podcast and made his predictions for the undisputed clash this weekend. The former four-weight world champion foresaw that Scull, if he stays true to his Cuban heritage, could pose a threat to Canelo. 'We don't expect this guy to beat Canelo,' Jones Jr explained. '[But] who were the only two people to give Canelo a really hard time – Floyd Mayweather [Jr] who was a supreme boxer and Erislandy Lara who is a Cuban extreme boxer. "[ Cubans ] are mindful boxers, usually have very good feet and both caused Canelo the most problems in his career. If this guy has any boxing IQ and he has any kind of feet - this could be a rough night for Canelo, but if he doesn't then Canelo should walk through him' George Groves The former WBA super middleweight champion and one half of the legendary Froch-Groves rivalry did not see Scull as any competition for Alvarez. He cast him aside as a stepping stone for Canelo to reach a super fight with Terence Crawford and believed there were no fighters at super middleweight who could lay a glove on the Mexican. 'You go against Canelo at your peril,' Groves told CasinoBeats. 'Because he's been so dominant at super middleweight over the years. I can't see Crawford putting a dent in him. Obviously, he's got to get past Scull first, but I don't think he'll struggle to win that fight. But at super middleweight, I haven't seen anyone of late who I think is going to give him a run for his money.' Teddy Atlas Teddy Atlas is a well-known boxing trainer, most recognised for his work assisting Hall of Fame trainer Cus D'Amato in developing a young Mike Tyson and guiding Michael Moorer to the world heavyweight championship in 1994. Since retiring as a trainer, he has been an active voice in the boxing world and has weighed in on Canelo-Scull, believing that Canelo will win in whichever way he sees fit. 'Unless Canelo is mentally off,' Atlas explained on his YouTube channel The Fight with Teddy Atlas. 'I think this is the kind of night where he can write his own story and his own ending to the story. It's up to Canelo completely. I see what can be a very handy, if not easy win for Canelo.' Juan Manuel Marquez As a compatriot to Canelo, it is unsurprising that Juan Manuel Marquez should show strong support for the unified super-middleweight champion. This is exactly what the former four-weight world champion did when asked about Scull's chances in the fight. Marquez dismissed Scull. 'William Scull is nobody," Marquez told ES NEWS. "He is nobody in the sport of boxing – He's the IBF champion but do you know William Scull? I don't know William Scull.'
