PRICE IS RIGHT 'He really got in my head' – Gerwyn Price reveals darts rival who rattled him most and it led to awkward moment on stage GERWYN PRICE has revealed the darts rival who rattled him the most – leading to an awkward moment on stage. The Iceman is one of darts' top slingers and reached the pinnacle of the game with victory at the 2021 World Championship. 2 Gerwyn Price admits Peter Wright is the darts rival who has rattled him the most Credit: Rex 2 One incident let to an awkward moment on stage Credit: Shutterstock Editorial Since then, the 40-year-old has continued to light up the oche. And his latest performance saw him reach the semi finals of the Premier League in London. Price was beaten by rival Luke Littler, despite getting the better of The Nuke several times throughout the tournament. However, there is another player who is under Price's skin even more. Speaking to talkSPORT, the Welshman named Peter Wright as the darts rival who has rattled him the most. Opening up on their battles over the years, Price recalled the lengths Wright would go to for victory. And one awkward encounter saw them clash on stage as Wright beat Price in the 2021 World Championship semis, with neither man willing to shake hands at the end. Price said: 'I can remember playing in a world championship semi-final, I'm not sure what year it was, but it was Peter Wright. Going to be on the same board?' 'Then he won the first set and tried to give it to me and I was fuming. He really did get in my head.' Speaking at the time of his handshake snub, Price said: "Banter is acceptable but not when players are fully focused trying to do a job, having just bombed the first set. "I was upset with what Peter did and think it was out of order considering the circumstances." Price later apologised though, adding: "I've had time to reflect on last night's game. "I've been in this position before in games but never in a World Championship semi-final. I overreacted to what Peter did after set one. "I apologise to everyone who thinks I've done wrong and yeah maybe I was a bit OTT (over the top)."

Luke Littler sends clear message to Man Utd over Bruno Fernandes sale as he reveals who he'd swap star for

LUKE LITTLER has sent a clear message to "world-class" Bruno Fernandes following his proposed Manchester United exit. The 17-year-old darts sensation was asked to pick between Fernandes and 11 global superstars. The world darts champion was asked to say "Yes" or "No" to any hypothetical swap deals involving the Portugal ace and a host of Champions League stars. But Littler abruptly said "No" to EVERY SINGLE big name, effectively ranking Fernandes above them all. The star-studded list began with Martin Odegaard, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Kevin de Bruyne and Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella. Littler even preferred Fernandes to Liverpool target Florian Wirtz, who Bayer Leverkusen value at £126million. Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala and RB Leipzing winger Xavi Simons were also snubbed by Littler. As were Declan Rice, Rodri, and Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham - who are all younger than Fernandes and valued at more than £100million. Littler, who lost the Premier League darts final to Luke Humphries last week, shook his head to every mention while chatting to talkSPORT. After rattling off the list, the presenter quizzed: "Oh come on, he's not that good!" To which Littler hit back with a grin: "Oh, he's world-class mate." Fans savagely mocked the teenage sensation, who is a life-long Man Utd fan, for sticking to his guns. One said: "Completely clueless 😂." While another added: "Stick to darts Luke!" A third chimed in: "It's a good thing you're good at darts." But others replied: "Littler knows ball." United are waiting to hear from Fernandes on whether he wants to stay at the club, amid interest from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal. The Saudi club are willing to make Fernandes one of the best-paid players in the world and pay £100m to sign him. No official offer has been made for the 30-year-old yet.

Gerwyn Price makes prediction ahead of Luke Littler Premier League Darts clash

Gerywn Price is backing himself to lift the Premier League Darts trophy on Thursday night, noting his impressive record against semi-final opponent Luke Littler. The Iceman has not won the prestigious title before, coming closest in 2023 when he finished runner-up, but he is confident this will be his year. The Welshman meets world champion Littler in the first semi, with Luke Humphries facing Nathan Aspinall in the second at The O2. Littler is odds-on favourite to win the title, as he did last year, but Price points to his excellent record against the 18-year-old sensation, leading the head-to-head 7-6. Asked what he is thinking ahead of Thursday night's play-offs, Price told talkSPORT: 'I think I'm going to win. Obviously I'm playing really well. 'I've got a good record over young Luke and I think he'll be thinking about it more than I will. I don't really care who I play.' He added: 'I think that's probably where I've got an edge over Luke and everybody else. Or over the other players when they play those sort of players. I literally just play the board and I know If I play my A Game then nobody else really matters. 'That probably sounds a little bit arrogant but I believe in my own ability and I don't really care about the Lukes or Michael, I know if I play well then I've got a really good chance of winning.' Littler has actually won the last two meetings between the pair, but that ended a six-game winning run for Price over the Nuke. The world champion does not agree that the Welshman's results are on his mind, though, and is confident of retaining his trophy. 'I'm not one to say I'm going to smash him, we'll just have to see how it goes,' said Littler. 'I wouldn't say it's playing on my mind because I know I've got a job to do. We've all got a job to do and there can only be one winner. 'So I'm just very confident that I can win to get out there in front of tens of thousands again.' Price is clearly in focussed and confident mood, insisting that even his recent defeats to the teenager should be seen as a positive. 'It was going to come to an end at some point so I would rather that he has won two than be 8-0 up and him go and turn me over at The O2,' Price said. 'Hopefully I get myself back on track and on top of Luke.' On the other side of the draw it is a less bullish approach from world number one Humphries, who is not ready to make any predictions ahead of the huge finals night. More Trending 'I've got to get past Nathan first and if I do get past Nathan I might not be playing Luke (Littler), I might be playing Gerwyn,' Humphries said. 'You can't predict anything in darts. You've got four great darts players inthe semi-finals. Any one of us can win. All four of us can win that trophy tomorrow. 'I think it is a mistake if you think that you're going to be playing someone in the final before they actually win the game first itself. 'So yeah, I'm not going to count my chickens yet before I've actually been made the final.' Luke Littler fires back at rival claiming he is heading for early retirement

Luke Littler says early retirement talk is 'crazy' after Nathan Aspinall suggested the Nuke could hang up his arrows in the not too distant future. The 18-year-old has already achieved more than most every will in darts, as the reigning world champion bids to defend his Premier League title on Thursday night in London. The teenager is yet to claim top spot in the world rankings, where Luke Humphries still resides, but with UK Open and Grand Slam titles also under his belt already, it appears only a matter of time. Such has been his incredible success at such a young age that Aspinall can see Littler sailing off into the sunset pretty soon, having become tired of travelling and with enough money in the bank to retire early. 'I think he'll be off in about five years,' world number nine Aspinall told talkSPORT. 'He's 18. He does a lot on YouTube, he's good mates with [YouTuber] Angryginge. I can see him going down that path, in my opinion. 'He's already getting fed up with playing and travelling all the time, and he's only been doing it 12 months. 'I don't think he'll be around for 16 years, let alone winning 16 world titles. If he does, fair play to him. But I can't see it.' Aspinall rowed back on predicting Littler retiring in just five years, but cannot see the Nuke still competing past 33 years old. 'Even now Luke could retire and never have to worry about money again in his life, it's as simple as that,' he Aspinall. 'He will always have exhibition work and I hope he doesn't [retire]. He's coming out of his shell a bit at the moment. 'I just believe if he's fed up of travelling now, he's only just got a girlfriend, when he does have a child and stuff like that and he's got £30m sat in his bank, does he really want to travel to Wigan on a cold Tuesday morning? Probably not. 'Maybe not in five years but certainly I don't think he'll be around at my age, so that's 15 years. I don't think he'll be here at 33.' The prediction was put to Littler and he does not agree, saying retirement is the last thing on his mind at the moment so early in his career and with the opportunities in front of him. 'I know I've heard that, I don't know where he's got that from – don't worry, I'll be here in 10 years,' Littler said. 'It's crazy to even think about retiring. If I win 16 world titles like Phil (Taylor), I'll retire, but I'm not even thinking about retirement at the minute – the money is there to be won, especially the World Championship but not only that everything has gone up. 'It is all about what you're feeling and I'm sure I'll be here for a long time.' The next opportunity available to Littler is to win the Premier League for the second time on Thursday night after lifting the trophy on debut last year. The Nuke takes on Gerwyn Price in the semi-finals of the play-offs at The O2 while Humphries and Aspinall meet in the second contest of the night. More Trending The winner will win £275,000 on Thursday night, with Littler looking to land the huge amount for the second year on the spin. Sky Sports' Wayne Mardle reckons it is going to be another Littler vs Humphries final, just as it was 12 months ago. 'Over the longer format, I do see Luke and Luke reaching the final,' said Mardle. 'If they both hit peak then it could be absolute carnage. 'I do believe that they meet in the final. No offence to Price and Aspinall, I just think they are better, especially over the longer format now.'
