Berlin celebrates Pride parade with techno beats and rainbow flags
BERLIN — Tens of thousands of people danced to techno beats across Berlin on Saturday to celebrate the city's Pride parade , one of the largest LGBTQ+ celebrations in Europe. With rainbow flags and bottles of beer, Germany's capital city partied under overcast skies, an upgrade after days of downpours, to observe and honor Christopher Street Day.

'Rave guy' whose eyepopping picture found him internet fame recreates meme that made him famous at Tomorrowland - and reveals what he's up to now
For some, the party don't stop. Shaun Jackson - the 'rave guy' who went viral for his eyepopping moves - is one such person. The wide-eyed northerner may have been cutting shapes at a Preston night club over a decade ago but the immortalised dancer was spotted at Tomorrowland, enjoying himself just as much. In a bright yellow T-shirt and a bustling crowd, Mr Jackson was dancing along to Charlotte de Witte, a techno DJ at the Belgian music festival. Specialising in electronic dance music, Mr Jackson would have felt right at home. Then some 40 years old, Mr Jackson was first captured in promotional footage for the Rumes bar in 2014 cutting shapes on the dance floor. The clip soon amassed hundreds of thousands of views - also catapulting the obscure night club where he raved the night away into international fame. While the party-goer has continued his love for a good time over the years, spotted at several dance events, he has also been spending time his grandchildren. The most recent clip of him dancing, Mr Jackson's moves were met with mixed response. One person wrote 'this is kind of sad' and another said 'beyond borrring now'. But others welcomed his fun-loving spirit, with a user writing 'proper old school raver, keep up with those disco biscuit dancing skills' and one person adding 'f***ing legend he is alive and enjoying! Respect!'. In one of his most recent Instagram posts - dated August 2023 - Mr Jackson poses shirtless with his tongue stuck out during a trip to Ibiza. Since then, Mr Jackson has uploaded elsewhere - on his TikTok - with one of the latest videos being a bizarre clip captioned 'on my wedding day', from May 2024. In it, the Chorley local, wears what appears to be a teal-coloured dress as he gestures over at a woman dressed in a white gown, who initially has her back turned to the camera. The video has elicited comments such as 'you are too funny! love it!' and 'still going strong'. There are number of videos also posted by Mr Jackson from 2023 where he makes expressive faces at the camera and, in his job as a plasterer, shows off some of construction work. Though, in a sweet clip captioned 'day in the park with the grandkids', he waves his arms about before a grandson spins him round and round in the park play area, with the northerner growing increasingly red. In his 2019 interview with Flexxed, Mr Jackson previously revealed he'd gone out with 'three-quarters of a bottle of Vodka already down by neck and then three or four drags of real good MD (MDMA)'. He also made headlines in 2022, when spotted at the Glastonbury Music festival and even had an action figure made in his honor that same year. The former boxer also once told BuzzFeed he was delighted with his fame and while on a weekend shopping trip 'everyone started clapping and cheering'. Mr Jackson previously said his only regrets were there had been no one filming when things got wilder as the night went on.

Clearing a path through the noise
This audio is not downloadable due to copyright restrictions. Ólafur Arnalds playing during the Rudolstadt-Festival 2019. Photo: Carsten Stiller When he was young, Iceland was too quiet for Ólafur Arnalds . At the age of 18, he jumped on a plane to London. He lived in a squat and played the drums in punk and heavy metal bands. These days he's back in Iceland and he can't get enough of the still life. Arnalds was in Auckland briefly as part of a Southern Hemisphere tour of the techno duo, Kiasmos , of which he is one half - the other half belong to the Faroe Islander, Janus Rasmussen. Kiasmos mostly makes music to dance to, but when Arnalds isn't doing techno, he's increasing creating sounds that spill over into the classical world; music like the "Chopin Project" where he collaborated with the pianist Alice Sara Ott. He's also composed for the choir Voces8, while the soprano sax player Jess Gillam recently recorded an arrangment of his work "Saman" (which means "together" in Icelandic). And he is increasingly drawn to silence. Not just silence in terms of no sound, but silence as in taking a break from all the "noise" most of us bombard ourselves with when locked into the latest social media goings-on via our smartphones. Arnalds spoke with RNZ Concert's Bryan Crump about the power of silence, and how sometimes in his solo concerts (where he's usually playing keyboards) he takes his audience to a place where there's no sound at all - and leaves them there as long as he can. They also spoke about Arnalds' latest album, "A Dawning" , which he made with the Irish singer Eoin French (aka Talos) whose own voice was silenced by cancer before the album was finished. Arnalds believes something important happens to people when they take a break from the "noise" of the modern world. They start paying more attention to the flesh and blood people around them. He says that sense of community was especially important when he and his fellow musicians had to complete "A Dawning" after French's death.

Legendary UK nightclub that's hosted world's biggest DJs is shutting doors this weekend after two ‘incredible' decades
A UK nightclub that has hosted the world's biggest DJs will officially shut its doors this weekend. After almost two decades in business, the iconic establishment is set to host one last wild night out. 5 Motion, located in a Grade-II listed industrial warehouse in Bristol, has hosted famous nights out since 2006. The venue has welcomed a variety of iconic DJs, drawing techno music lovers and ravers from far and wide. But don't worry if you're a fan of Motion, the owners have secured another site nearby. However, they still shared their sadness at leaving the iconic venue, explaining that it holds "a lot of special memories". Managing director Dan Deeks has described the closure as bittersweet. "We're trying to keep our heads up high and enjoy the last weekend and keep a celebratory mood... but obviously massive sad that we're going to lose the club," he told the BBC. "We've had massive support, a real outpouring of supportive messages, memories. It's been really heart-warming. "It holds a lot of special memories, some really special times." Deeks has worked at the club for more than 15 years and explained that the nightclub owners had put forward a bid when the landlord shared plans to sell the site. "They don't want us to buy it. Our lease expires and that's the end of it," he explained. SKY Amazing plan for world's 2nd tallest skyscraper twice as big as The Shard with highest ever nightclub & observation deck While he is unsure of the landlords' plans for the building, he went on to say the club was "incredibly grateful" for the past two decades. Deeks added that despite the sadness of the closure "things are looking good". "We've got a new site to move to and we're really pleased because it's not a leasehold, it's a freehold site," he said. Famous names Motion has played host to countless music acts over the years, including Rudimental, Sub Focus, Conducta, Jax Jones, Barry Can't Swim, Greg Wilson, Mall Grab, Honey Dijon, and DJ Seinfeld. DJ and producer Eats Everything spoke to the BBC about the club's closure, calling it "a piece of UK nightlife history". "Friendships, marriages, children, all manner of relationships will have been formed on the dance floor in this place. "It's broken tracks, it's broken artists that have had their first gigs here and now have gone on to become massive stars. "You've had every single DJ under the sun come play here. And now it's closing and it's sad, man. It's a sad day, it holds a big place in my heart." 5 Benefit to Bristol Carly Heath, who works as a night-time economy adviser in Bristol, recalled spending thousands of hours handing out flyers outside Motion, as well as putting on nights there. "I'm trying not to think about [the closure] too much. I feel really, really sad," she said. She explained that venues like Motion were "critically important to our economy", contributing to culture, togetherness, and well-being as well as generating tens of millions of pounds. "These guys are going to go on and do amazing things. Cities are about flux and change," she added. "This is the end of one chapter but I firmly believe it's the beginning of another." Motion will draw the shutters for the final time after a final 24-hour party over the weekend. "We are absolutely going for it. There's points where it won't stop," said Deeks. "Everyone will be able to come down, have a good time, and see it off in style." 5 More closures Plus, a family favourite restaurant chain has closed the doors of a "landmark" branch. A Poundland location has been evicted from an iconic UK seaside town. And a Michelin-star chef has closed a "spectacular" restaurant after just five months in business. Plus, a major card chain has launched a closing down sale after announcing it is closing down for good. A major retailer is having a 50% Christmas sale in July after closing nine locations.
