Fears for missing NSW teen Holly Whalan
A mother says she is 'extremely worried' for the safety of her missing teenage daughter after the girl was allegedly taken across state borders. Kahlia Whalan claimed people trying to contact her daughter Holly, 14, were being blocked and the teenager's Facebook page had been deactivated since she was last seen on Sunday. NSW Police said Holly was last seen about 12.15pm on Sunday at High St, Warialda – a town in the North West Slopes region, about 60km inland from Inverell. 'Police and family have concerns due to her age,' NSW Police said in a statement on Monday. 'Investigations indicate Holly may be in Woodridge, QLD, about 11.50pm last night. 'Police believe she may be travelling in either a 2015 blue Mitsubishi Lancer – QLD registration 741JD9 or a 2008 silver Audi A3 – bearing QLD registration 344GJ6 Qld and she may be in the company of two men, aged 22 and 24.' Woodridge is located in the City of Logan, south of Brisbane and about five hours' drive from Holly's home town of Warialda. Her mother published a desperate plea on social media for information about Holly's whereabouts on Sunday night. 'The police are searching for her, she is 14 years old, anyone who tries to contact her is blocked immediately, her Facebook has been deactivated,' she wrote. 'We are extremely worried for her safety, please help us bring our baby home, if you know something do the right thing and tell us immediately.' has contacted Ms Whalan for comment. She also shared CCTV footage of two cars – one blue and the other silver – which appear to match the models NSW Police described in its statement. It is unclear whether these vehicles were the ones identified by investigators. Holly is described as being of caucasian appearance, about 160cm tall, with shoulder length brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white crop top and black and white tights.

Teen, 19, fighting for life after falling from balcony ‘while fleeing cops' as boy, 14, raced to hospital
A TEENAGER is fighting for his life in hospital after falling from a balcony while allegedly fleeing police. The 19-year-old man suffered critical injuries after falling off an "upper balcony from height" in Tameside, Manchester, said cops. A 14-year-old boy was also seriously injured in the same fall on Saturday night, according to Greater Manchester Police. It came after police received reports of a "group of males with machetes making threats towards individuals" at the location. Upon arrival, at around 7.20pm, officers gave chase to three males who "tried to leave" the property, with one of the three escaping through a lower balcony. The 19-year-old who fell from the balcony then sustained serious injuries. Footage from the scene showed emergency services at the foot of Bentinck House, a 12 storey tower block on the outskirts of Ashton town centre. Three people have been arrested and drugs and a weapon have also been seized, said police. Witnesses reported seeing armed police and an air ambulance at the scene. Det Supt Gareth Jenkins from the Tameside District said: "The two injured parties, aged 14 and 19, have been taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries, with the older male in a critical condition. "These males are under the detention of officers pending their medical treatment, and another male has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs. 'Enquiries are ongoing to determine all of those involved and the full circumstances of what has happened in the lead up to the incident. Suspected drugs and a weapon have been recovered. "A small scene remains in place at the property and residents in the area should expect to see further police activity. "Anyone with any information which has not yet been provided to us, or with any concerns, should speak to officers on the ground. "I'd like to reassure the community that this incident is believed to be between individuals known to one another, with no wider risk to the community." Police are looking for any witnesses to come forward with any information that could aid their inquiries. Anyone with information is being urged to call 101 quoting incident number 2849 of May 31 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Teenager appeals 14-year sentence for murdering North Lakes mother Emma Lovell
The teenager who killed south-east Queensland woman Emma Lovell during a home invasion has appealed his 14-year sentence, arguing it was manifestly excessive. In 2022, two boys — then 17 years old — broke into her North Lakes home late on Boxing Day night. During a struggle with Ms Lovell and her husband Lee, who had been trying to push the teenagers out of their house, the 41-year-old was stabbed in the chest and died on her front lawn. Mr Lovell was also seriously wounded. Last year, the now 19-year-old who was carrying the knife pleaded guilty to several offences, including murder, and was handed a 14-year sentence. This sentence was only possible because a Supreme Court judge deemed his offending was "particularly heinous", a legal determination under previous Queensland youth justice laws. On Monday, the teenager's lawyer Andrew Hoare argued in the Court of Appeal the sentence was manifestly excessive on a number of grounds, including that this determination should not have been made. "The matters that were articulated by His Honour and created special prominence did not make an offence of particularly heinous," he said. Mr Hoare accepted the features of the crime, including the fact there was "the loss of life of a person who was otherwise in the peaceful occupation of their house", was heinous. However, he submitted it did not reach the higher threshold and pointed to a previous juvenile murder sentence where there was premeditation as an example of an appropriate declaration of "particularly heinous" offending. Mr Hoare submitted if the Court of Appeal judges were to uphold the finding the offending was "particularly heinous", the term of 14 years should still be decreased. Under the same legislation, the teenager was ordered to serve the maximum period a juvenile can spend in custody, which was 70 per cent of his sentence. This was because the sentencing judge did not find that he had special circumstances that would allow for the custodial period to be reduced to a minimum of 50 per cent. Mr Hoare argued a discount should have been applied due to the teenager's disadvantaged childhood, early guilty plea, remorse, and attempts to seek mental health support and further education in detention. "That should have led to a reduction in the custodial component of the sentence," he said. Crown prosecutor David Nardone opposed the teenager's appeal. Mr Nardone accepted the teenager had an "unfortunate upbringing" but said other factors, including his lengthy criminal history, were also taken into consideration by the sentencing judge. Speaking outside court, Mr Lovell said it was difficult attending court again and reliving the "horrific" details, but he wanted to be there for his wife. "At times I don't feel like I've done enough." Mr Lovell said he wanted to see the original sentence upheld and any reduction would leave him feeling like Ms Lovell's life had "less value". "You just want it to be over and done really so you can move on," he said. The appeal decision has been reserved.

"They know how to support students and how to get through some of these grieving processes." PEOPLE reached out to Pinconning Area Schools and the Bay County Sheriff Department for additional information on Sunday, June 1, but did not receive an immediate response. Aiden and Halen's cousin, Monica Rabie, told the outlet that Halen does not know her brother died. "She's very out of it, I would say. She isn't aware of who passed. They've told her a couple of times, but she's not there yet to be able to understand," she said. The cousin also opened up about Aidan's big plans following his graduation, saying he was "just about to start life, a big life." "He was ready for job interviews, he had just gotten his license. He was very involved in church, had a long-term girlfriend. He always wanted everybody else to be laughing," Rabie said. Read the original article on People
