Security forces traced the operative to a hideout in the Boulaq al-Dakrour district of Giza, where he was residing with another Hasm member in preparation for the attack. When the security team moved in, the suspects opened fire indiscriminately, prompting a gun battle. Both operatives were killed during the exchange. A civilian passerby was fatally wounded, and one officer was injured while attempting to rescue the injured citizen. The ministry revealed that Hasm had produced and circulated a video showing members training in a desert area outside Egypt, vowing to carry out attacks inside the country. The National Security Agency was able to track the plot back to several high-ranking leaders of the group. Among them was Yahya al-Sayed Ibrahim Muhammad Musa, one of Hasm's founding figures and the mastermind behind its military operations. Other key operatives named included Mohamed Rafiq Ibrahim Manaa, who had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment for attempting to assassinate prominent individuals and for forging official documents, and Alaa Ali Ali Al-Samahi, who was also convicted in several terror-related cases. Additional individuals identified included Mohamed Abdel-Hafiz Abdullah Abdel-Hafiz and Ali Mahmoud Mohamed Abdel-Wanis, both with known links to earlier assassination attempts. The infiltrator, Ahmed Mohamed Abdel-Razeq Ahmed Ghoneim, was tracked to the Giza apartment where he was plotting the attack with Ihab Abdel Latif Mohamed Abdel Qader. The Interior Ministry said the discovery of their hideout and the successful neutralization of the threat underscores the ongoing vigilance and effectiveness of Egypt's security forces in confronting internal threats. It added that the operation is a reminder of the continued danger posed by foreign-based extremist networks and the importance of coordinated counterterrorism efforts to protect national stability. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

‘Ukrainian recruit' killed in Siberian shootout – FSB (GRAPHIC VIDEO)

A Russian national suspected of plotting a bomb attack and planning to flee to Ukraine has been killed in a shootout with Russian law enforcement officers in Western Siberia, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Monday. The agency published video footage of the deadly confrontation in Tyumen Region, saying it took place as the man tried to retrieve an improvised explosive device from a stash. The video features drone footage of the man as he exits a vehicle in a remote area and walks away from the roadway. Two other individuals can be seen approaching the vehicle from a different direction. The video transitions from thermal imaging to regular ground-level footage filmed from afar. The suspect is shown throwing a hand grenade and shifting his position before being fatally shot by security forces. According to the FSB, the man, allegedly in his late 30s, had been working for the Ukrainian intelligence services since early 2025. Initially, he was involved in monitoring military trains along the Trans-Siberian Railway, but later progressed to plotting a targeted killing, which the agency described as an attempted terrorist attack. Authorities said the suspect intended to plant an explosive device beneath the vehicle of a military service member he had been tasked with assassinating. The agency also released footage showing tactical gear, grenade fuses, and other items allegedly found in the suspect's home. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly denounced sabotage attacks, accusing the 'illegitimate Kiev regime' of morphing into a terrorist organization amid setbacks on the battlefield, and branding its Western supporters as accomplices. The FSB warns that Ukrainian special services are actively recruiting people in Russia to commit crimes on its behalf, and regularly reports thwarting alleged plots. Suspects are usually taken into custody and face lengthy prison terms if found guilty.

Man arrested in Hong Kong over bomb hoax threats remanded in custody

A man earlier arrested by Hong Kong national security police over a suspected terrorist plot was charged with four counts of making bomb hoax threats and remanded in custody by a court on Wednesday. Zhang Kejia, who claimed to be self-employed, appeared before Kwun Tong Court for allegedly attempting to mislead police into believing that explosives were planted at Kai Tak Stadium and an unspecified central government office. A charge sheet available for press inspection stated that 35-year-old Zhang, a Hong Kong identity card holder, contacted police on several occasions via email or the force's 999 emergency hotline on May 10 and 13. Prosecutors asked that no plea be taken from the defendant as police needed time to make further inquiries. Acting principal magistrate Karen Leung Ka-kie rejected Zhang's request for bail. The defendant has reserved his right to renew his application eight days later. His case will be heard again at West Kowloon Court in late July. On Monday, police arrested Zhang and four women on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a terrorist act in breach of the national security law that Beijing imposed on Hong Kong in June 2020.

Police get extra time to question four terror suspects over 'Iranian plot to attack Israeli embassy'

Counter-terrorism officers have been given more time to question four Iranian suspects over an alleged plot to attack the Israeli embassy in London. Police officers arrested five men on May 3 on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act as part of a national pre-planned operation. Four of the men were detained under the Terrorism Act over the apparent plot to target the embassy in Kensington, west London. The fifth man was detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and has since been released on conditional bail. Officers arrested a 29-year-old man in Swindon, a 46-year-old man in west London, a 29-year-old man in Stockport and a 40-year-old man in Rochester. The fifth man was a 24-year-old man detained in Manchester. Police are continuing to carry out searches at a number of addresses in the Greater Manchester, London and Swindon areas. Pictures of the raid in Rochdale show three officers dressed in black and two other men dressed in camo gear escorting one of the suspects out of a property. Undercover police officers were also pictured swooping on a suspected Iranian terrorist in Swindon on Saturday after posing as customers in a café. The officers were then seen dragging the suspect through the street towards a police van. Commander Dominic Murphy, Head of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, said: 'Our officers and staff continue to progress what is a significant and highly complex investigation. We are working incredibly hard with public safety at the forefront of our ongoing efforts. 'I would like to ask people to not speculate or share information that has not been confirmed by Counter Terrorism Policing. We have clear and critical reasons for not providing further details at this time. As soon as we can, we will look to share further information with the public. 'As always, I would ask the public to remain vigilant and if they see or hear anything that concerns them, then to contact us. 'We are working closely with local officers in the areas where we made arrests on last Saturday and I'd like to thank police colleagues around the country for their ongoing support.' Three other men, also Iranians, were arrested on the same day under counter-terror legislation in relation to a separate case. Security reviews have been commissioned by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper in the wake of the plot. The alleged terror cell were said to be planning an 'imminent' attack that could have lost in significant loss of life. The Israeli embassy in London, which was believed to be the target of a group of suspected Iranian terrorists Asked about the possibility of Iranian state involvement in the planned attack, Home Secretary Ms Cooper said: 'These are major operations and the ongoing investigation is immensely important, and, of course, it involves Iranian nationals in both investigations. 'But this reflects the complexity of the kinds of challenges to our national security we continue to face.' Security minister Dan Jarvis told MPs: 'The investigation relates to a suspected plot to target specific premises. Police officers have been in contact with the affected site to make them aware and provide relevant security advice and support. 'Investigators refused to provide further detail last night about the nature of the attack planned, which is likely to have been state-sponsored.' Iran has been blamed for a series of attacks on Israeli embassies across Europe in the last year. Sweden's security service Sapo suggested Iran was involved in two attacks in October when shots were fired at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, days before two explosions were reported near the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen. Fredrik Hallstrom, of Sapo, said the targets and methods pointed in the direction of Iran. Months earlier, gunshots were fired around the Stockholm embassy, which Mossad blamed on a crime group directed by Iran. The Israeli spy agency also said an organized crime ring in Sweden working on Iran's behest was behind an explosive device found inside the grounds of the same embassy in January. Last year Mossad claimed Iranian-backed criminals were behind an attack on Israel's embassy in Belgium when two airsoft grenades were thrown at the building in May.
