INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE is Coming Back To Theaters For Father's Day — GeekTyrant
"The man with the hat is back. And this time he's bringing his dad." Grab your dad, your leather satchel, and a fedora because Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is heading back to theaters for Father's Day, which is awesome, because I'll finally get to watch this movie on the big screen again! Fathom Events is giving fans the opportunity to relive one of cinema's greatest father-son adventures on the big screen. The 1989 classic returns June 14, 15, and 18 as part of their Big Screen Classics series. This is my favorite Indiana Jones movie. The chemistry between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery still hits. Despite only being twelve years apart in real life, their dynamic as Indy and his cranky, bookish dad somehow worked like magic. This movie delivered so many unforgettable moments: the motorcycle escape, the Venice catacombs, the literal leap of faith, and of course, Indy shouting 'DON'T CALL ME JUNIOR!' It's action-packed, hilarious, surprisingly emotional, and a good reminder that punching Nazis will never go out of style. This seems like a fun opportunity to take your dad to the movies. Even if my own kids don't take me, I'm still going to go see it! I'm up for going solo to soak in some nostalgia with a bucket of popcorn and that John Williams score echoing through the theater. When it comes to Father's Day plans, you could buy a tie for your dad… or you could take him to watch a classic father and son adventure film!

Former ICA director: What is driving Trump's venom against the arts?
Museums, theaters, orchestras, and dance companies employ hundreds of thousands of people and serve communities across the country through inspiration, education, training, and convening. At the same time, artists individually are among the lowest-earning sectors of the economy — and In the federal budget, arts funding makes up an infinitesimal fraction of spending. The NEA's Advertisement Rather, the ineffable power of the sector lies in art itself, in the creative energy it represents and releases, and in the role it has played — over and over — in amplifying issues and movements that are part and parcel of resistance and hope. Advertisement Hannah Arendt, in her 1951 book 'The Origins of Totalitarianism,' examined Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia in a way that feels all too relevant today. We learn that authoritarianism flourishes on loneliness, it offers a simplified world view divided into 'us' and 'them,' and it uses control of history and the arts as strategies to reinforce and inculcate a message of fear and obedience. Contemporary art of all kinds, on the contrary, possesses a truth-telling power to shape and narrate our shared history — a power to change whose stories are told, and by whom. The arts can speak to audiences long excluded from our walls and stages. And they are particularly important for America's young people. Today across America, cultural organizations are tackling loneliness, pervasive since the COVID-19 pandemic. Museums, concert halls, and theaters offer space for collective learning and gathering. They present programs for young people and elders that foster social interaction and creativity. And they support artists as they make and share their work with others. I recently stepped down after 27 years leading the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. In my experiences at the ICA and with other arts organizations, I have long seen one key form of recognition of the power of arts: the recognition that almost everyone shares when they see their child, niece, or neighbor playing in the third-grade recorder concert, bringing home a drawing for the refrigerator door, or reciting a poem at school. It is the recognition of creativity at work. It is witnessing the joy of self expression. And it is the relief of knowing our children have the inner resources needed to cope with the complexity of their futures. Advertisement I trace my own career as a museum director to early exposure to the arts: first in after-school painting lessons, and later in visits to the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, my hometown — where my world exploded as I encountered painting and sculpture from around the world and across time. These were truly aha moments that have lasted a lifetime. That is one reason why programs for young people have been central to my work. The ICA launched its Many arts and museum education programs in the United States have long been supported by federal grants, now being dismantled by the Trump administration. Support for the arts is an investment in our nation's long-term creativity. It is vital for the immediate survival for many arts organizations and individuals and for the recognition that the arts sustain us all. Equally important, though, freedom of expression is a tested antidote to a single authoritarian voice, determined to isolate and divide us. That is why the arts, in all their glorious forms, are both so feared and so necessary.

THUNDERBOLTS*: Alternate Taskmaster and Ghost Designs Revealed in Early Concept Art — GeekTyrant
Marvel's Thunderbolts* ignited some excitement in the Marvel fan community because it actually turned out to be a great movie! It was filled with some great interesting characters and each one of them has a cool and unique look. Concept artist Constantine Sekeris recently shared a few early designs for Taskmaster and Ghost that offer a peek into the creative process behind their final on-screen looks. These alternate costumes don't veer too far off from what we saw in the film, but there are some noticeable tweaks, particularly in Ghost's helmet design and overall color palette. 'Here is a sneak peek at Ghost,' Sekeris wrote on Instagram. 'You can see in this early design we played with having more grey break up….you have a chance to see many more exploration in the Art of Thunderbolts coming out soon …loved working on this project and loved the movie….more to come humbly thank you.' While Taskmaster's design retains much of the tactical feel we've come to expect, these early images hint at more exaggerated silhouette choices and detailed texturing that was ultimately toned down in the film. Ghost's suit, meanwhile, shows off a sleeker, more segmented armor layout in shades of grey and silver. As Thunderbolts* continues its theatrical run, the film has dropped to the No. 2 spot at the domestic box office, pulling in $16.5 million in its third weekend across 3,523 theaters, which is a 50% dip from the previous week. That brings its domestic total to $155.4 million and its global haul to $325 million. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is next up on the plate, and I'm excited for that!

Justin Baldoni's Jane the Virgin Co-star Brett Dier Reacts to Ongoing Blake Lively Feud: 'Hoping Everything...'
Jane the Virgin star Brett Dier has weighed in on former co-star Justin Baldoni's ongoing legal dispute with Blake Lively. In an interview with Fan Mail published on May 22, Dier described the situation as 'really intense.' 'I probably shouldn't say much,' Dier said, 'but I'll say this: I always loved Justin.' He also stated, 'Justin has always been an amazing friend to me. I'm just hoping everything resolves in time.' Dier and Baldoni became close during their time on Jane the Virgin, where Dier played Michael Cordero and Baldoni starred as Rafael Solano. The CW series aired from 2014 to 2019. Although Jane the Virgin ended six years ago, Dier revealed he still stays in contact with many of his former castmates. 'It was a wild ride,' he recalled of the show. While he didn't name anyone specifically, Dier was seen publicly supporting Baldoni in August 2024 when Baldoni's movie It Ends With Us premiered in theaters. Dier attended the screening with Yael Grobglas, who played Petra on the show and Baldoni's on-screen ex-wife. 'Our genius friend @justinbaldoni made a phenomenal film,' Grobglas shared on Instagram. 'I cried an embarrassing amount and tried to hide it but probably failed.' She posted a photo with Dier from the theater, writing, 'I am so proud of you, and I love you, friend !!!!' The movie It Ends With Us, which Justin Baldoni directed and starred in, is now at the center of a legal conflict. In December 2024, Blake Lively filed a sexual harassment complaint against Baldoni. She accused him of creating a hostile work environment and causing her 'severe emotional distress' during filming. Baldoni has denied all the allegations and responded with a USD 400 million lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and her publicist Leslie Sloane. He claimed they tried to destroy his reputation by spreading edited and unverified information. Ryan Reynolds and his legal team have asked the court to dismiss Baldoni's defamation claim. 'The entirety of Mr. Baldoni's case appears to be based on Mr. Reynolds allegedly privately calling Mr. Baldoni a 'predator,'' said Reynolds' attorneys Mike Gottlieb and Esra Hudson in a March statement to Us Weekly. They added, 'The complaint doesn't allege that Mr. Reynolds did not believe that statement to be true.' Reynolds' team also stated that Baldoni himself has openly spoken about his past of mistreating women and pushing the boundaries of consent. Baldoni's attorney, Bryan Freedman, responded by claiming Reynolds played an active role in the situation, allegedly pushing WME to drop Baldoni and helping orchestrate a campaign to damage Baldoni's career.
