When will Patriots wear their red throwback uniforms during the 2025 season?
The New England Patriots are bringing back the fan-favorite red throwback uniforms for two games in the 2025 season, the team announced Tuesday. One of those games will be the Patriots' return to Monday Night Football. New England will wear the beloved "Pat Patriot" threads in Week 3 when the team hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers, and again in Week 13 when it welcomes the New York Giants to Gillette Stadium for a Monday Night Football showdown. The Patriots termed those tilts as "Throwback Bouts" in a post to X on Tuesday. The red look is connected with some of the darker days in Patriots history, and the team hasn't had much recent success in them either. But the uniforms look sharp and have had a special place in the hearts of New England fans since their return three years ago. The uniforms were brought back sporadically from 1994-2012 (with the team going 9-3 in the garbs) but collected dust for a decade because the NFL had a rule where teams had to wear the same helmets throughout the season. When that rule was lifted in 2022, teams all around the NFL started to turn back the clock with their uniforms. The Patriots have worn their red threads twice in each of the last three seasons, but have gone just 1-5 in those contests. New England won its first throwback game in 2022 -- a Week 5 win over the Detroit Lions -- but then lost to the Buffalo Bills in the red unis in Week 13 on Thursday Night Football. In 2023, the Patriots lost to the Miami Dolphins, 24-17, in Week 2 in the throwbacks. They wore them again in Week 13, which was a dreadful 6-0 loss to the L.A. Chargers on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Foxboro. Last season, the Patriots lost to the Houston Texans, 41-21, in the red uniforms, which was also Drake Maye's first career start. The Patriots were down 14-7 at halftime after the rookie QB hit Kayshon Boutte for a 40-yard touchdown ahead of the break, but trailed 27-7 late in the third quarter. Maye threw two more touchdowns in the second half and finished with 243 passing yards, but was also picked off twice in the loss. The Patriots wore the red uniforms again in Week 13 last season in one of their more exciting games of the year. Maye threw for 238 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, but the Patriots lost, 25-24, to the Indianapolis Colts. New England held a 24-17 lead in the final minute, but lost on a touchdown pass by Anthony Richardson and ensuring two-point conversion by the Colts quarterback with 12 seconds left. Maybe the Patriots will have a little more success in their throwbacks in 2025.

Social media reacts to Steelers throwback uniform announcement
On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers unveiled their throwback uniform for the 2025 season. The Steelers went with a serious throwback design honoring the 1933 season, complete with the city crest, matte yellow helmets, and block numbers. For us, these new uniforms are great. Perhaps not as iconic as the classic bumblebees or as sharp as the Color Rush, but the uniform truly epitomizes what the Steelers represent and the city. But not everyone agrees with this assessment. Social media reaction was very much mixed. So, fans loved the classic look and respected the nostalgia, while the look completely turned others off and clearly were hoping for something different. We dug into X and decided to share some of our favorite posts related to the throwbacks. The Steelers will wear the uniforms on October 26 when the Steelers take on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football. No bumblebees here: Steelers' new alternate uniforms honor 1933 Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Steelers are going retro. On their throwbacks. On occasion. Monday morning, the team revealed its new − or old, depending on your perspective − throwback uniform, which is a nod to the Steelers' inaugural team in 1933, when they were known as the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Steelers last sported a version of this look in 1994, when the NFL celebrated its 75th season and teams throughout the league delved into a throwback experience that became common in later years. Pittsburgh will break out the new/old uniform on October 26, a "Sunday Night Football" date at Acrisure Stadium with the Green Bay Packers. If the Steelers are fortunate, new quarterback Aaron Rodgers will also recapture his own throwback form as he attempts to defeat his original team and become only the fifth quarterback in league history to notch a win against all 32 of its teams. Steelers throwback uniforms: Team introduces new jersey that pays homage to inaugural 1933 season
The Pittsburgh Steelers really understand the meaning of a throwback. The team is taking things all the way back to its inaugural season after announcing new 1933 throwback uniforms Monday. The uniforms are a modernized version of the jerseys the team tore back in 1933. The Steelers introduced the new uniforms in a post on X. The stripes on the front of the jersey are a clear callback to 1933, when the team's gold jerseys contained black stripes on the arms, neck and chest. Football players weren't required to wear helmets in 1933, so the modernized version of the uniform introduced something a little different on that front. The franchise has generally relied on its iconic black helmet in recent years, but that's going to change in the throwbacks. To celebrate the 1933 season, the team will wear a gold helmet with a black stripe, an inverse of their usual helmet. Tight end Pat Freiermuth was a big fan of that change, per the Steelers' website. "We've worn black helmets since I've been here, and well before that, and just switching it up to a new helmet I love. It gets players excited. It gets the fans excited. It's something cool to showcase. After we wear them, I want to keep that helmet forever. It's super cool." Another new aspect introduced on the throwbacks is the Pittsburgh crest near the left shoulder. That crest — which wasn't present on the 1933 uniforms — pays homage to the city of Pittsburgh. It's a celebration of the connection between the franchise and its city. The throwbacks will debut in Week 8, when the Steelers take on the Green Bay Packers. The team did not announce any additional games in which they will wear the new throwbacks. That game against the Packers should draw plenty of eyes, though. It's not only a primetime matchup, but it's also the first time Aaron Rodgers will face the Packers since leaving the team after the 2022 NFL season. Whether he wins or loses that matchup, Rodgers will at least do it in style.

Steelers pay homage to city and 1933 team with new throwback jerseys featuring Pittsburgh crest
The Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday unveiled new throwback uniforms ahead of the team's arrival at training camp this week. Harkening all the way back to 1933, when the team first came into existence, the new throwback is inspired by the uniforms the very first Steelers players wore on the field. This throwback uniform "pays tribute to the city that shaped the team, honoring Pittsburgh's enduring influence on the team's identity, spirit and championship legacy," the Steelers said. The uniforms are inspired by the Steelers uniforms of the 1930s and 1960s. The jerseys have black vertical striping with oversized, black-trimmed white block numbers. The helmets feature a gray mask and matte gold finish. On the back of the jersey are oversized black block numbers for a "two-tone black and gold color combination." Finally, the pants are beige in a nod to the 1933 khaki uniforms. The Steelers said the "cornerstone of the jersey," is the City of Pittsburgh crest on the left shoulder. The team calls it a nod "to the team's heritage and deep connection to Pittsburgh." Steelers president Art Rooney II said in May that the team will wear the new uniforms against the Green Bay Packers during Sunday Night Football in Week 8. "We're excited to unveil our new throwback uniforms which not only pay tribute to the origins of the Steelers franchise but also to the deep connection we have to our hometown of Pittsburgh," Steelers President Art Rooney II said. "It's especially fitting that we'll debut these uniforms on Sunday night, Oct. 26 when we play the Green Bay Packers - another franchise in the league with a long and rich history." Rooney also said that the all-black Color Rush uniforms would return during the upcoming season, likely against the Miami Dolphins during "Monday Night Football" in Week 15.
