Nottingham Forest close in on Botafogo trio after holding productive talks with Brazilian club

Nottingham Forest have held further productive talks over signing three Botafogo players. Those players are centre-back Jair Cunha, striker Igor Jesus and left-back Cuiabano. Cuiabano was a target for Brighton. Jesus, 24, was wanted by Forest in January. All three played in Sunday's 1-0 with over Santos and Mail Sport expects the deals to be completed following the Club World Cup. Forest attempted to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford in January and could make another move for him in the summer. Wissa scored 19 non-penalty goals in the Premier League this season, which was level with Erling Halaand and Alexander Isak, and behind only Mohamed Salah 's 20. The arrival of Edu, working across Evangelos Marinakis' clubs, will strengthen ties to the Brazilian market. And that could see Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz become an option, according to Mail Sport's Tom Collomosse. Manchester City playmaker James McAtee, who has had few minutes at the Etihad, is another they admire.

Nottingham Forest close on agreement to sign Botafogo trio Igor Jesus, Cuiabano, and Jair Cunha

Nottingham Forest are close to agreeing a deal with Botafogo for the triple signing of striker Igor Jesus, left-back Cuiabano, and centre-back Jair Cunha. Jesus is a 24-year-old striker who has also been deployed on either wing. He has scored seven goals and provided one assist in 23 games this season. Advertisement The attacker, who has scored one goal in four appearances for the Brazil national team, joined Botafogo from United Arab Emirates side Shabab Al-Ahli in 2024. Cunha is an imposing 20-year-old central defender. Botafogo signed the 6ft 5in defender from Santos in February, but the Brazil under-20 international has already established himself as a first-team regular, making 16 appearances in all competitions. Cuiabiano, a 23-year-old left-back, joined Botafogo from Gremio in April 2024. Also capable of playing left wing-back, he has scored two goals and provided three assists in 21 games for Botafogo this term. The Athletic reported in May that Brighton & Hove Albion were pursuing a deal to sign the left-sided player. Botafogo have rejected two formal offers from Brighton for the Brazilian, who is contracted to Botafogo until the summer of 2027. The trio are set to face Neymar's Santos in Brazil's top division on Sunday. Botafogo are owned by John Textor, who, through his company Eagle Football Holdings, also holds shares in Crystal Palace and Lyon. Forest are looking to add to their squad after qualifying for the Conference League next season, the first time the side have qualified for a European competition in 30 years.

Liverpool 2025/26 lineup prediction with Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz included

Liverpool is sparing no expense in bolstering the squad ahead of defending the Premier League title in the 2025/26 season. Last week, Virgil van Dijk hoisted the trophy at Anfield after the Reds secured a 1-1 draw with FA Cup winners Crystal Palace. While Liverpool celebrated with the fans before ugly scenes ensued, Arne Slot and Richard Hughes are firmly focused on the transfer market. Advertisement On Friday, Jeremie Frimpong signed for Liverpool, with the Bayer Leverkusen star replacing Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool triggered Frimpong's $39.2 million (£29.5m) release clause to complete the deal; Frimpong scored 30 goals and tallied 44 assists in 190 appearances for the Bundesliga club. After a hectic week, Liverpool appears in pole position to secure the German international's services. Advertisement Wirtz reportedly has his heart set on a move to Anfield, while the Reds are locked in advanced negotiations to complete the blockbuster move. The 22-year-old would represent a marquee signing, and Slot isn't stopping there. Milos Kerkez, the Bournemouth left-back who starred for the Cherries this season, is another heavily linked name. With the addition of Frimpong, Kerkez, and Wirtz to their roster next season, Liverpool is preparing to field a formidable XI that could strike fear into its competitors. Despite the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer following a transfer agreed upon last year, Alisson Becker should undoubtedly remain the top choice in goal. The Georgian international will likely have to settle for a bench spot during his inaugural year at Anfield, with Alisson remaining the starting goalkeeper. However, the back four are in for a shake-up. Frimpong will vie with Conor Bradley for the right-back position, a competition that could benefit the Northern Ireland international as he works on his fitness. Jeremie Frimpong completed his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday -Credit:2025 Liverpool FC Kerkez is expected to step directly into the left-back role, replacing Andy Robertson. Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate retain their central defense positions, leaving Slot with another midfield conundrum. Advertisement Wirtz seems destined for the No. 10 role, which Dominik Szoboszlai frequently filled this past season. The German is anticipated to be a regular starter, which might relegate Szoboszlai to a rotational role. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch certainly don't deserve to be sidelined. Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo bring the firepower from both wings, leaving only the No. 9 position to be determined. Currently, Luis Diaz or Diogo Jota would be the likely choices, with Darwin Nunez expected to make a move this summer. However, if funds allow it, Liverpool should be in the market for a new striker. While a move for Alexander Isak will likely prove too pricey, given Newcastle is in the Champions League next season, a former Manchester City star would fit the bill. Julian Alvarez could be available. The Atletico Madrid forward, who scored 29 goals last season, seems like a more feasible option than Isak, particularly if a swap deal involving Nunez can be negotiated. Should Alvarez join the Reds, the potential line-up for next season will have fans on the edge of their seats. Liverpool's possible 2025/26 line-up could be: Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Alvarez.

Tottenham confirm four summer departures, including two goalkeepers and a Champions League winner

Tottenham announced the departures of four players on Saturday morning. It was confirmed that goalkeepers Fraser Forster, 37, and Alfie Whiteman, 26, would both be leaving upon the expiration of their contracts at the end of June. Former Real Madrid left back Sergio Reguilon, 28, will also leave Spurs as a free agent this summer, while Timo Werner is returning to RB Leipzig. Werner, 29, had been on loan at Tottenham since January 2024 but the club decided against taking up their option of signing him permanently for €10 million (£8.43m). A short club statement posted on social media read: 'We can confirm the departures of Fraser Forster, Sergio Reguilon and Alfie Whiteman following the conclusion of their contracts, while Timo Werner departs following the conclusion of his loan spell. 'Thank you for your service and all the best for the future, lads'. All four departing players travelled to Bilbao earlier this month for the Europa League final. None of them featured in the 1-0 win over Manchester United but they were all pictured in full kit during the post-match trophy ceremony. Ex-England international Forster spent three seasons at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but was never the first choice keeper. He made 34 first-team appearance during his Spurs career, including 21 in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Whiteman spent a decade with Spurs after joining the club's youth ranks in 2015. His only senior outing for Tottenham came in November 2020 when he featured as an 82nd-minute substitute in a 4-0 win over Ludogorets. Reguilon joined Spurs from Real in September 2020 and played in 67 games during his first two seasons in north London. But he spent the following two campaigns out on loan at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford, before returning to Spurs last summer. He featured in just six matches in his final Spurs season, taking his overall total of appearances to 73. Werner — who won the UEFA Champions League in 2021 with former club Chelsea — scored just three goals in 41 games for Tottenham. He had netted 23 goals in 89 games duirng his Chelsea career.
