The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later airlifted to a Toronto area trauma centre. No other injuries were reported. Police shoot man while trying to stop suspected stolen vehicle in Scarborough

A York Regional Police officer shot and injured a male while police were trying to stop what they thought was a stolen vehicle on Thursday night in Scarborough, police say. The male, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken a trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries. He is currently listed in stable condition. Police said they responded to a call about a stolen vehicle in the area of Kennedy Avenue and Clayton Drive in Markham shortly before 7 p.m. From there, they followed the vehicle to Kennedy Road and Bonis Avenue in Scarborough. Police attempted to stop the vehicle and an officer fired his gun, striking the male, according to police. Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been notified. Police said they continue to have a large presence in the area of Kennedy Road and Sheppard Avenue E. Road closures are in place as police continue to investigate. Kennedy Road is closed between Cardwell Avenue and Havendale Road. Marilyn Avenue is closed and Cardwell Avenue is closed east of Kennedy Road.
